You know, the movie doesn't at all make it clear why he wanted to join the Imperial Academy, did it? Most people who only watched the movies probably assume it was just 'cause he'd take that over moisture farming, but really what it was was… Well yes, that, but also a very common way of joining the Rebellion was by getting piloting training from the Empire, and then jumping ship as soon as there was a chance, or by being approached by a Rebel spy and recruited, which if I recall was how Biggs wound up joining, which he wanted to include Luke on in a deleted scene from early in the movie.

It’s explicitly stated in the Biggs deleted scene it’s the imperial academy. Luke wants to leave the planet and become a pilot and Biggs tells him he’s leaving the Empire for the rebellion and won’t be coming back. Setting up the reunion scene on Yavin 4

They had such a lack of knowledge of hyperspace they were completely unable to see why it was a nonsensical addition to the universe, only that numerous fans disliked it. The dark side of the Mouse is a pathway to many abilities some consider...illogical. They became so idiotic...the only thing they feared was losing their minds, which, of course, they did. Unfortunately, they claimed the chances of hyperspace ramming being successful were one in a million, then they acted as if this doesn’t further invalidate Holdo’s sacrifice. Ironic. They could save others from criticism, but not themselves.
