Hi I'm a Mercedes truck mechanic there is an app you can download to learn more about your personal truck also retarder is like a big brake on the drive shaft and engine brake is completely different it shuts the exhaust valves and stops gasses escaping to slow the engine down that's what the trucks use now the only retarder I've seen used is on a Mercedes vario bus hope this helps.

@johnvancamper95815 жыл бұрын
Got these on our job. Dangerous. In spray or low light you can't see anywhere near as well as a glass mirror. The camera is too high to clean on the move. LED car headlights and matrix signs on the opposite carriageway flash at you constantly due to the light frequency......very distracting. The test units had complete blackouts and had to be towed away. You can't use distance spectacles with them as they are a screen image at arms length rather than a reflection which would have depth of field. Loads of drivers have trouble reversing with them as the two cameras don't line up square with the trailer. Oh... and they have lines superimposed over the image...to "help " the driver judge how far back traffic is. If the screens were as good as a glass mirror they wouldn't need lines on them. .....and if lines on mirrors were so "helpful" then Merc would put them on their normal glass mirrors. In short .....garbage !
@grahamlive5 жыл бұрын
Those cameras stick out a lot. So what is the point of them? The stick out almost as far as your mirrors would.
@BrandonAdam645 жыл бұрын
they give better vision and take away any blind spot the mirrors would have
@Tashyncho-Sapa5 жыл бұрын
same was thinking
@grahamlive5 жыл бұрын
@@BrandonAdam64 I wouldn't mind a go with them. Though they'd need to be a lot better than the side cameras that are currently on the trucks that I drive. You can see bugger all in them. Especially in the rain. But I'm not totally against the idea especially if it can improve visibility.

While I am a big truck and tech fan, I do lean on the side that the New Actros takes a bit too much to the technology’s side. There’s far little too buttons, which would make my brain reassurance not function properly (I wouldn’t be exactly sure I hit my intended button)

There decent truck and have lots of features even the older one is a good truck but the gear box was to slow and didn't no what it was doing and the dealer back up is a disgrace! I no 4 very large haulage companies in our area who have now pulled out of Mercedes because the back up is just not good enough. We have one it's a 14 plate and every time it goes for a service it comes back with more problems then when it went with mercedes have had to just shy of £65.000 on it in the last year on R and M because they never do the servicing properly it's had 2 engines a gear box a diff and a back axle and 3 add blue systems we now have to have a hire daf in the fleet full time just to have it there for when the mercs break down

In a world with semiconductors shortage, they choose cameras and displays instead of very good working and cheap glass mirrors. And regarding aerodinamics, why are they still designing the cabins like a brick wall???

The problem is, as functional as they are with screens and all the ease of use and features that come with it, it's ALL useless on the unit if the screen fails. One display with both your gear indication and your speed and revs on, you've nothing instrumental to go off of about what speed you're doing. One display with stereo, climate control, satnav etc on it if the screen dies its ALL useless. Maybe you even iceblast yourself with the aircon but after the screen freezes or breaks you can't actually get back to the right option to turn it off and are forced to stop. Though I do like that they have buttons for each menu buti'd like the touch "pad" on the wheel to be a solid "clicky/notchy" joystick, that way you can feel the increments of direction rather than just a general analogue movement with no kind of ergonomic visionless feedback on what you've actually done. Because this way, over time you will end up memorizing all the menus and won't even need to look, problem with touchscreen/pad tech is you're FORCED to look, even if you know the menu's inside out.
