Spot on Chris I have been driving for nearly 30 years and have never had it explained in this way. This should definitely be added to training courses. well done mate and keep up the good work.

When I passed my class one test only a few weeks ago reversing was my main worry. But after just a couple of days in an artic and getting a bulit lost and having to u turn its amazing how fast you are able to place the trailer exactly where you want it to be. Just take it extra slowly and it really starts to click

Did my second shift last night as newly passed driver, with only examination knowledge I had no clue how to park on a bay and had to ask my mentor to take over, this video has helped understand at least the principles in process needed. Thank you mate

I have just found this little vlog on reversing and the way you explained it was absolutely perfect 👍🏻. As a new class 1 pass this basic no frills explanation with just a paper depo bay & a good old model truck made more sense to me than the Bell's & whistles vlogs I've seen ! Its stuck in my mind set now that's all that some people really need 🙂. Thank you for this vlog & demo 👍🏻👍🏻

Started driving last week. I get anxious as soon as I hit a distribution centre. Then I get stressed as I know everyone is watching. Hopefully I'll remember your instructions on Monday. Thanks for the video.

Don't worry about people watching if they say anything just remind them that they once were in the same position. Also if it makes you feel better I still have days where I struggle like mad

I'm sat in a drivers room now, having struggled for 30 minutes doing a very basic bay reverse. Started getting stressed. But you have to laugh at yourself a bit and take a moment to chill. Then have another laugh at yourself when all the other drivers that were watching make a comment :p It's not helped that I passed class 1 at the same time as class 2, but have only done class 2 work for 2 years. So I'd forgot how to do it all. Ohh well, back to the yard. Try again tomorrow

Brilliant info , passed a couple of weeks ago, real life examples of what you experience is always a bonus. The blind side reverse looks a mare. As you say the reversing test gives you only a small taster of all the issues you are going to get in real life, and anything like this gives newbies like me an insite and a little more confidence. Personally found the trucking community very helpful while driving Class 2 for a year. Keep going with the hints and tips, much appreciated.

Excellent vid, very clear explanation. However experienced you might be, bay reversing in a busy depot is NEVER without danger. And the more smokey old truckers there are watching the more difficult it is. Take it slowly, don't be afraid to stop, get out, look, correct your line and go again. Or once in take as many forward shunts as needed!! Thanks again for putting this up!!

Thanks for this. Few days in, only had to do this way once and made a pigs ear of it, rest of the time ive been able to do like you said, go through the bays and straighten up and reverse back. Im feeling more confident in things now tho, as they say, practice makes perfect. And you're right about when learning, all they teach you is how to drive on the roads, apart from the reverse and coupling. I asked my instructor if we can do some bay reversing, his response was, "no point, you will get taught then when you get a job" Well, ive got a job and had little teaching, two nights out with a fella who helped and gave me some pointers, now im out on my own. He did say i can rock up to the yard early before i start and have some practice. Really enjoying it tho, out again tonight, yard ive been to a couple of times, nice bunch, last drop of the night, might ask if i can go down a bit to some empty bays and have a sod about, im sure they will be ok.

I’ve already had practise at my workplace backing a trailer but I felt I needed to watch something to fully explain it in the easiest manner for me to comprehend.

Nice one mate, I passed my class 1 2 weeks ago and every time I turn up to get on a bay it's a minefield of information, I've been lucky up to now that experienced drivers have gave me some tips 👌 but just by adopting this sort of method on every reverse should help no end thanks mate 👍👍

When I first passed and started driveing I found the best way starting a reverse is to point the rear of the front wheels in the direction you want the trailer to.go then follow it around slow . That's how I learnt to do it myself

Greetings from the US! I drive a Peterbilt and the way I like to think about it is pushing a wheel barrel. But when you have to react quick its back of the trailer moves opposite if the steering wheel, front of the trailer goes the same way as the wheel. Just with those 3 things you should be able to park anyway you need.
@patricktaylor70742 жыл бұрын
Thank you for doing this video. It really helped me understand how to position myself and when to start turning the wheel. My first week was a nightmare until I watched your video over and over again. I'm still not perfect but it only takes a couple of shunts now lol

Great video, been working a week, some of this I'm doing already, but brilliant tips. The bit I struggle with is if you are slightly in the wrong position in the bay is making the whole unit move over a few feet left or right without losing the position
@truckingchris17163 жыл бұрын
Takes practice, you will find it will come with time. However don't be afraid to take a shunt and remember everyone has been in the same position

One other question, how close to the loading bay are when you drive alongside?
@truckingchris17163 жыл бұрын
@@stevewestern5477 as close as you feel comfortable, I always used to try be about 5ft away from front of the trucks that are on the bay just means less reversing

Hiya Chris, Excellent information Vlog. I gained my class1, 35 years ago. For my 21st present off my parents. Which got used for many years. I got a bit Dissolutioned, so retrained as a brickie. Anyway, my joints are finished. So looking to return to diving. I now feel more relaxed after your video. Things have changed so much. Although I have kept my licence upto date. And think I'm ready to get back into. Thank you for your time and effort. If this advice had been around. It would have been so much easier. Much appreciated, drive safe. 🚛🌬️

Chris as a rule if you're going into bay 4, how many bays further on would you be stopping to start reversing so the trailer has cleared past bay 4, would you drive to like bay 9 or 10 for example then put the bend on? Thanks
@pumacollector73105 жыл бұрын
I had a driving assessment and reversed blindside onto bay, my observation was how do you know how far back the end of the trailer is from the bay, do you simply get out and check? this could apply to reversing in most places.
@truckingchris17165 жыл бұрын
If it's a loading bay with a dock ramp just keep reversing slowly till you touch it. If it is a bay without a ramp reverse till you think you are about right then get out and have a look. Practice will make perfect and you will learn what point to look at
