For those who like rice, as mentioned in the video, try: Duck rice, Seafood rice, Monkfish rice, Tomato rice, Mirandese veal rice and wild mushrooms from the Trás os Montes region. You will love them all. And for the brave: chicken blood rice and lamprey blood rice.

is the blood rice served in a casing like a morcilla?
@NunoFerreiraX10 күн бұрын
@ it's chicken blood rice. Search for "arroz de cabidela".
@aboutlouie10 күн бұрын
@@Leo-pt9ei OP was probably refering to something called arroz de cabidela. Which is rice cooked with blood.
@123456789392189 күн бұрын
@@Leo-pt9eino, it is served fresh, cooked to order, mixed with rice and meat, red wine, vinegar and some condiments. The most common are chicken blood rice and lamprey blood rice. Rarely in some countryside places you can also find rabbit blood rice, but it is very difficult to find because the supply is low, as is the demand.
@feanorgu23 сағат бұрын
@@Leo-pt9ei Not really the name is "cabidela" and it is done and eaten instant, blood and vinegar and the cocked chicken also in the mix, served in a cast iron pan or large pan, usually the day you kill your chickens, cause nobody really likes the blood from the super packets. Morcela on the other hand is like Chouriço, a way to conserve and store the pigs parts.

Ok, as a portuguese myself i recommend you, for the most part, to steer clear of the Baixa area. LOTS of tourist traps there, although there is one or two restaurants that arent the vast majority is. You can get de 7day transport fare that will enable you to travel in most public transportation in the Lisbon district. i advice you not to take a TukTuk cause its expensive as hell and most of the zones they pass are easily accessible via tram/bus. If you are in the adventuring mood, i recomend you take the train to Setubal, lots of great seafood and fish dishes there, like Chocos á moda de setubal. From Setubal you can also take the Ferry boat to Troia if the weather permits it. Sintra is great and the Palacio da Pena fantastic way to spend the day. If chicken is more your speed, in belem there is the Calçada da ajuda, which has a restaurant that has been serving chicken for the past 50 years. Really good place

The trick to eating a great "Bifana" is to pour a little Hot-Sauce on it and then pour a little Mustard together. Its a taste explosion in your mouth. Which needs to be drenched with a nice cold "Fino" (Portuguese Beer) --- In the north we drink Super-Bock, in the South we drink Sagres.

You should try more stuff outside the hypercenter. For example, you can go to a place called Fim de Século in Benfica for 10/10 Pasteis de Nata, they were actually awarded for it some years ago. For chicken, try some Churrasqueiras in Alvalade, as well as a typical Portuguese restaurant called Tico-Tico held by Northeners that have top-notch dishes and insanely good home-made Piri Piri sauce. For seafood I'll recommend to go outside of the city, to Sétubal to eat Choco

@luisrodrigues469812 күн бұрын
I know people have only a few days to sample a lot, and it is not easy to find and choose the best places to go, but i always see the same pastel de nata/chicken/bifanas/francesinha videos. What i would challenge people to do is making a gastronomic trip to the whole of Portugal inside Lisbon. With some research you can find regional themed restaurants that serve very respectable versions of a certain region (they tend to be specialized according to where the owner or his/her family came from), so you can have food from Minho to Algarve, with Trás-os-Montes and Beiras and Alentejo along the way. If you do it right, i bet it could change your whole perspective on Portuguese food. Or on Life itself.

Went to Lisbon last week. The pastries are awesome! The bifanas are nice but really nothing special, it's a convenient snack. The cod is great, the sardines are terrible.
