I 100% recomend reacting to videow from Copa 90's Derby Days series. They go deep into each rivalry they cover, and they don't keep to the most famous ones. This sounds like a AI voice (mispronouncing "derby" in an English accent), reading a poorly compiled list....as you've just said, lol. You're right to be critical though, it's a poor video, made with no real thought or love. I'd avoid the channel in future.

So the Fla-Flu rivalry is pretty much the same as River Plate and Boca Junior. It's rich vs working class but its weird because some how during history Flamengo became the club the represents the working class and lower class in Rio de Janeiro yet it was created by rich people while Fluminense was founded in Laranjeira which is an affluent neighborhood in Rio.

Boca/River is in some ways typical... Close geographic proximity, football-mad culture, relatively even success, and historical class distinction between supporters. Boca are traditionally the working class team, while River are historically the club of the affluent. Reality is different today - both clubs have supporters from across the socio-economic spectrum. What makes it special is the local passion.

Yeah, this seems like AI slop. Like, Dortmund vs. Schalke is the only derby that the two teams are a short train ride apart!? Most derbies in Europe you can walk between the stadiums. Your rant had more effort into it than the video lol I'm not Italian, but some context to what the robot was referring to in the Milan derby. There actually used to only be one team in Milan. AC Milan, which uses the English name for the city (rather than the Italian "Milano") because it was founded by an English person. AC Milan had a policy of only playing Italian players, and there was a dispute with some members of the club wanting to sign foreign players. And that dispute ended up woth the foundation of a second team "Internazionale Milano" (as in they're the International team in Milan, because they signed foreign players). Obviously, both teams sogn non-Italians these days, but that is the origin that the bot loosely referred to.

Hi from Argentina. So, we don't call it derby (that's in spain), we call it Super-Clasico. The rivarly started way back in the day as both clubs were originated in La Boca village. With the purchase of Carlos Peucelle for 10 thousand pesos in 1931, and Bernabé Ferreyra in 1932 for 35 thousand pesos, the club revolutionized the transfer market of the time, earning the nickname "Millonarios". Also, in 2018 River and Boca played at Madrid the Libertadores Final (it's like the Champions League for Americas) and River won 3-1.

In the Netherlands it's Ajax and Feyenoord. Away fans from both teams have been banned for over 10 years. Even without the away fans some recent matches got stopped because fans started riots. The most recent edition should have been a week ago, but got postponed because the safety of the players bus couldn't be guaranteed due to police strikes.

Brazilian football is rich in rivalries as clubs there also dispute state leagues and Brazil has many big clubs, you can't really pick just one. Palmeiras vs São Paulo vs Santos vs Corinthians, Flamengo vs Vasco vs Botafogo vs Fluminense, Grêmio vs Internacional, Atlético Mineiro vs Cruzeiro, Bahia vs Vitória and many others.

Exactly! I struggled to explain this to a mexican friend the other day. Even though we have nation wide rivalries, local beefs like Ponte Preta vs Guarani, Come Fogo (Botafogo-SP and Comercial), Athletiba (Athletico-PR & Coritiba), Paysandu vs Remo are wiiiild and much more intense than most serie A rivalries. 😂

Sometimes being neighbors with fanbases that have a deep identification with the teams and the region they represent is enough to spice up games into classical rivalries. Small events and disagreements gets emphasized and deepen the lore around the rivalry. Families pass down identities and ties to a club from one generation to the next. I am from Dortmund and did grow up with the Revierderby. I think it is more about identity and belonging than significant events that started it.

The rivalry between Celtic and Rangers is fundamentally rooted in: England's invasion and partial colonization of Ireland beginning on 1 May 1169 England's (with the help of the Scots and Welsh) re-invasion and full conquest of Ireland (1536 - 1691) The Plantation of Ulster, the organized colonization (plantation) of Ulster - a province of Ireland - by people from Great Britain during the reign of King James VI and I. Most of the settlers (or planters) were Protestants from southern Scotland (predominantly Presbyterian ) and northern England (predominantly Anglican); their culture differed from that of the native Irish (predominantly Catholic). Small privately funded plantations by wealthy landowners began in 1606, but the full-on plantation officially began in 1609, and ended in 1690. The plantation was organized by King James VI and I as a means of controlling, anglicizing, and "civilizing" Ulster . Prior to the plantation, the province of Ulster was almost entirely Gaelic, Catholic, and rural and had been the region most resistant to English control. These settlers (or planters) were sent to live in Ulster to ethnically cleanse the indigenous Irish Catholic inhabitants, thus transforming the province from one which was almost entirely Gaelic, Catholic and predominantly Irish-speaking, to a province which would be predominantly subservient to English (and later British) rule, Protestant, and English-speaking The Great Irish Famine (1845 - 1852), and the subsequent mass exodus out of Ireland that emerged from it. Between 1830 and 1914, up to 300,000 Irish people immigrated to Scotland, the vast majority of them were Catholic, and the majority of them settled in the Glasgow metropolitan area and the West of Scotland. Celtic Football Club was founded on 6 November 1887, at a meeting in St. Mary's Church Hall in the Calton area of Glasgow by Andrew Kerrins (religious name Brother Walfrid), a Marist Brother from Ballymote, County Sligo, Ireland. It was founded with the purpose of alleviating poverty in the poor Irish Catholic immigrant and diaspora population in Glasgow's East End. Celtic quickly gained a strong and committed following amongst the Irish Catholic immigrant and Irish Catholic immigrant-descendant population of the Glasgow metropolitan area and the West of Scotland. To this day, the vast majority of Celtic's support comes from Glaswegians of Irish Catholic descent. In response to Celtic's founding, a football club with explicit Irish Catholic connections, Glasgow's native Scottish Presbyterian and pro-Unionist leaning populatio (many of whom held deeply anti-Catholic and anti-Irish racist beliefs) adopted Rangers, founded in 1872, If you want a decent documentary on the rivalry between Celtic and Rangers, the Old Firm derby, this documentary from 2000 is a far better introduction. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWOnaaWVqJZohNE&ab_channel=mp3dash There's also this one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaCllKV9fraEmsk&ab_channel=Anything%26Everything And this one - https:/ /kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZjKhZV5mMeWhKM&ab_channel=VICE

Back in the ol days, when the Revierderby BVB vs Schalke was quite young, thousands of ppl came to the Stadium. Much more than the stadiums could fit in. To keep the enthusiastic fans from the pitch, they hired securities with dogs and positioned them next to the field lines. And one time a fan got bitten by a dog. So the next Derby, the other team used baby Lions to keep them off the field.

Most Brazilian specialists consider the Gre-Nal (Grêmio x Internacional) the biggest brazilian derby, for the way the whole state of Rio Grande do Sul is divided between the two clubs, while other states often have more influence from the big clubs from Rio and São Paulo, and Rio and São Paulo themselves have 4 big clubs each. the rivalry began in 1909, when Inter was founded and Grêmio, founded 6 years earlier, won 10-0. In fact, it began a little earlier, when the Poppe brothers from São Paulo tried to join Grêmio, and Grêmio refused because the club was only for Porto Alegre citizens, mostly germans.

But Schalke 04 won in the same year(!) the predecessor of the Euro League, UEFA Cup. Why he didn’t mention it stays a mystery. Their rivalry was one of the 4 biggest derbies in Europe. Schalke is the club, players like Manuel Neuer or Leroy Sane are from, Raul finished his career there etc. Schalke was reall a big club and had a downfall in the last years and got relegated

You were not being mean, the video was just trash and deserved the criticism. It's unfortunate but I find that many of the videos on football are like this, people know there's a gigantic market for football content so they make these low effort surface level videos to capitalize on it. Even the ones that claim to explain european football to americans (pretty sure I watched you react to one or two of those) fail at so many levels to properly convey the subject. This video just got to your nerves, and to mine as well, because at every turn it feigns to carry more meaning or information than it actually does. As for the rivalries, sometimes they just form out of nothing more than proximity or competition history, that's why when you search for more there really isn't anything. Not all of them have meaningful things to be explored.

Luke, they say there's a chance that Keylor Navas (3 UCL winner with Madrid) goes to Barcelona, it would be like Figo or Ronaldo Nazario ...the thing is, ter stegen Is injuried and they need a gk with no current contract, and it seems like Claudio Bravo and Keylor Navas, even thought they're old , they're the options
@sehu12912 ай бұрын
I read the same thing yesterday. But Spanish newspapers, which are usually very reliable, have written that they don't want to replace ter Stegen just for this season but want to buy a new long-term number 1. And to sell ter Stegen in the summer. They believe that ter Stegen has no future, especially after this injury. And Navas would not be a long-term solution at his age. However, it is difficult to find a number 1 for the future in winter or without a contract. That's why it's possible with Navas, but I think he's too expensive for them in terms of salary

Not allways but often different clubs have a different political ideology in their historical roots. For example AS Roma is leftwing but Lazio Roma is fashist rightwing club. Imagine, I know you guys don't have that but just imagine you have one team drinking Pepsi and the other prefering Coca cola whitin 1 city and you divide them up by their preference and you pass that preference from father to son. From an early age you teach your son that Pepsi is the best and by any means you can not drink Coca cola or vica versa. This is a silly example but it is kind of true and it can be really childish too. below I give you such an example. Often you see clubs who represent white collor workers and their Rivals from the same city the blue collor workers. Or clubs with people who origionally immigrated in a city and the (true) native ones. In the states that would be Republicans vs democrats or even more specific Rino's vs conservatives. It can also be supporters from uptown versus supporters from downtown. It can be anything Here is the Fun fact I prommised: I know about a Dutch supporter from Feynoord Rotterdam who refuses to use a cleaning product called Ajax. He doesn't want it in his house because the club Ajax Amsterdam is his biggest rival team eventhough the cleaning product has nothing to do with the football club. It is just the name of the product and he knows that but he just can't stand that name. That is how rediculous but deep it gets. Hard to understand for an American isn't it?
