Thanks I've never heard of the butt slapper game, but I can just add that onto the pile of evidence to a point that I've been making, which is basically; video games are for (primarily straight) men. So make sure your game appeals them in some way. If you're spending $100 million on a game, you're not asking, "how does this game appeal to a primarily straight and male audience", then you are in trouble. Everyone can cope and seethe about that as much as they want, but that's just the reality, and we should be honest about it.

That's not upscaling artifacting, that's just another cheaper method of doing transparent materials in Unreal Engine. Instead of using the full transparency shader that has the full grayscale bit depth range, they use masked transparency and then use "dithering" to divide the black/white masking in the cheaper masking shader. That dithering then causes that weird checkerboarding.
@aBadWizard32 минут бұрын
So.... the "dithering" made the grass look pixelated and artifact-y? Or was the grass supposed to be transparent as well? Whatever the case, it looks like dogshit lmao
@helion66475 сағат бұрын
The "artifacting" at 3:14 is not a bug actually. It's a shader trick called "dither opacity", which cut out some percentage of pixels of rendering object so it looks "translucent". It allows you to apply opacity on opaque object, without create a transparent shader for it. Which is cheaper and easier for development. Mostly used for LOD switch (like trees, grass). My theory is the devs want to build the "ghost" effect, but it turn out too expensive performance wise and they don't have the time to optimize it. So they just turn on the dither opacity button and call it a day. The pre-render screenshot and trailer don't have this issue.
@FerdinandJosephFernandezСағат бұрын
It also gets around depth sorting issues when transparency is used. I usually see dithering being used more and more now.

I’m asking this question out of legitimate curiosity: Why do a lot of recent female protagonist character models in video games all seem to have a pronounced jaw or slight underbite quality? I think this trend is fascinating and really want to know the thinking behind it.
@mariawhite73379 сағат бұрын
No they just want them to look mostly gender less. Because they THINK that is what people want. Even nonbinary people. Basically they want them to be androgenic, neither male or female looking. Only they fail utterly and just make things purely ugly. Even when they have a full face to work on.

@@Bogglemanifyyep, the reviews are great on Steam. Not so much the summary of positive/nefative, but that will always lack context. You can see which reviews are worth taking seriously. “I love it!” *30 minutes at time of review* *product refunded* obviously not serious. Disregard. You can also see when something was given free (though that has to be done manually), something is reviewed in early access. I think it also says when it’s redeemed through a key as well. So you know if someone got it for cheap via a humble bundle vs paying whatever it is on Steam as well. That can color your feelings when you get a mid game for basically nothing via those bundles. Steam reviews are the only reviews to trust...there is literally a 'Time Played' right in the review ignore any that haven't played the game.

Got it with my CPU purchase. So far it’s fine like a fine AA with some interesting elements. The other game was Space Marine 2 so My bar was pretty high

That’s probably one of the lowest bars ever lol

I miss zombie games released around the time of TLoU 1 and Walking dead Telltale. I think one can only experience those kinds of profound storytelling few times in their life.

You can't let creatives and activists control the purse strings or you'll end up with failures like this.

Pretty sure Bandai Namco just signed on to publish the game from Rebel Wolves (a studio started by the director of Witcher 3)

Wild guess.....the modern audience didnt turn up......again?? Anyone with normal common sense, would think the modern audience doesnt exist!! But that cant be true right? Devs arent spending all these millions on modern audience games for no reason surely?

I've heard of it. But I didn't care to try it. And from what I seen of the game, I made the right choice.

fun fact, in Cantonese this game literally is translated to "Unknown Dogshit"

I'm definitely picking this up because I adore a good stealth game, especially in a detailed world. I just can't justify the expense right now. There's too much out, and too much coming out. I hope the studio is alright if it flops. It looks rad.

I'm sure it will be on gamepass at some point but not sure how much they will give the developer considering sales being so low.

If you want relic adventure game get Uncharted, if you want to mess with supernatural powers and conspiracies get Control, if you want stealth mechanics and conspiracies play Assassin's Creed (1,2,Brotherhood, and Revelations for a good start), if you want stealth and to mess with supernatural powers get Dishonored. Unknown 9 is like some weird time capsule of a poorly run 7th gen game while taking elements of other, better games. The enemy AI is SO ARCHAIC AND BRAINDEAD that combat doesn't feel fun or engaging, and the story is boring despite the interesting premise. If you're on Steam there is no reason to pay $50 for Unknown 9 when you can get other, better games for cheaper (especially with Steam's Halloween sale coming out in about a week).
