Great idea with stapler ………does it leave holes in fabric ?

The holes are miniscule and the fabric normally recovers, the weave moves back in tact. You want to sew your a little further out from the staples so that any holes wouldn't be visible from the outside finished side when inverted.

No, you can use a conventional stapler

Its called a Plier stapler. It is easier to use wither heavier papers and fabrics especially since you operate it one handed off of the tabletop. about $20USD, so not terribly expensive.
