Oklahoma rancher here, I'm 61 now but I swear 90% of everything I know about farm stuff and equipment was learned from my grandpa(s). You get those people that lived through the depression and they were masters at making things with their hands or repairing them. They had no choice. I also found it interesting that they hardly ever through anything away. They still reused food cans, bread sacks etc. We have 2 quilts made from flour sacks my grandmother saved. She told us the colorful flour sacks provided material to make dresses out of. I know that sounds corny but I respect it very much so.

I have to agree with the lost wisdom. I retired at 68 after 40 years in skilled trades, with Journeyman Millwright, Journeyman Electrician, and Machinist's cards. I would have liked to have worked with some apprentices, but my immediate managers were worried that I might be after their jobs, so I was treated as though I knew nothing, and then was dismissed.

These girls will learn this, they know it's gonna be up to them someday. I can see they are very attentive to what's going on all around them. All these machines are expensive but are necessary, they have to work long enough to pay for themselves, then after that comes the profit. Very efficient and attentive ladies they are, all business

I so appreciate my Dad who is now 85 Tool and Die maker. Machine Repair. He is a master craftsman in his trade. I wish so badly I could have learned all he knows. Blind in one I and doesn’t see real good out of the other. He could do things with an old lathe that would rival modern technology. When the old timers are all gone Gen Z will be lost. Be thankful that you are seeing what he does so you can duplicate him in time. Get the little Brother to pay attention to grandpa. It’s vital for the survival of your business!

I grew up in the late 70s 80s cutting timber with my father. He died 12/26/91 after being in Hospital 6 weeks. His saw was dull and a tree split and fell on him as he was walking away. I was at the log yard and did not hear the saw. Found him and cut 5 feet of the tree off. His head was between his legs. Tell Ken to keep a sharp saw and eyes on the trees. I just found your channel and love it already. Brings back alot of good memories. We used a MF 40 frontend loader and a 240 timber jack cable skidder. I know where ya"ll are as I hauled frieght to Rockchester. I had a girl friend in Northumberland. I am in SC. Can Ken put a camera on the skidder and make a all day video. And what happens to the slabs you cut off the logs. 😁😁😁

Great job Grandpa! Between you and your granddaughters you took this slipshod part of the operation and turned it into a well oiled, precision machine. All those rusty blades moldering away in the barn was LCLY throwing money into the compost pile. Never underestimate what a old person can accomplish with a little support from their family. If your concerned about the gullets once you've sharpened it, we used to run a die grinder in the gullet to knock out the grind mark this will help to stop it cracking, I'm a Sawdoctor from Australia.

That is impressive. I like the bit of tooth-set wisdom at the start, 23 degrees to get a smooth cut. Both of those rigs look like they'll make a great contribution to your workflow. Speaking of cutting large logs from the other week. If you haven't seen it already, Matt Cremona near Minneapolis has a very large saw head mill that he designed (and sells plans for). Not that you guys need another mill, but in this weeks KZbin video he cuts a very large, very clear Walnut log taken out of a yard in Wisconsin . It's impressive, the size of the log and the clarity of the grain in the cuts.

Did Grampa do logging before "THE BOSS " got into it as well as bring the family onboard . Maybe Grampa should place a bleed hole and catch pail where the pipe turns to go up to the air blower as the oil will congell at the lowest spot. Great to see him given her the go !

High end equipment and you're exactly right about going deeper into the gullet to get the correct angle for cutting, I've operated saw sharpeners for what's called a flying cut off blades and that's the exact process that is used. Very impressed with your equipment and your process, also the young lady looks much like one of my nieces , only she is much more stable and grounded than my niece. God bless
