LUMIX S-Pro 70 200 f/2.8 - Manual Focus Ring REVIEW

Hello,
As my Panasonic S-Pro 70-200mm f/2.8 L Mount is sold, I thought it was the last time possible for me to make this short video showing how the Manual focus Ring works.
It's a special feature of the Lumix S-Pro line in the L Mount system and it took me some times to see the benefits of this solution.
1) Without pulling back the ring, the lens behaves as a normal lens and you can override the AF just by turning the MF ring.
2) If you pull it backward in the MF position, then you have access to a truly manual focus lens with distance scale written and AF-ON button no longer works to operate the lens.
3) More than that, you can save a focus distance in this position, go back to AF position and as soon as you grab the focus ring back again you reach the saved focus distance.

lovely images with that lens Didier - the quality even came through on YT. I really don't think I could go back to shooting with a DSLR as a main camera now. As I get older and my crumbling spine deserts me, I think I'll be selling my GFX kit and moving over to a much smaller system - probably M4/3 (hoping for a new sensor for that system soon!)

Hi my friend! I’m so sorry to read this. My back is also making me suffer some times and I try to do gym specially for the back to strengthen it. But sure one day I will need to go lighter with my gear. Yes the 70-200 LUMIX is a marvelous lens paired with the S1R and I’m pretty sure I’ll get the same quality pairing my 70-200 FL Nikon zoom when is will be paired with a Z9… but for now I have to deal with the D3S and D3X which for the latter is already excellent with this lens.

I have a s5 with the 35 1.2 sigma and 24-105 f4. would you recommend trading in the s5 for the s1r? and curious as to why you are selling the s1r

Hello Peter If you need a higher definition, yes the S1R is the one to go. But keep in mind that it is bigger and heavy compared to the S5. Also the screen mechanism is different and the EVF is superior. The S1R is capable of great video features also… I’m selling mine because I switch back to Nikon with the Z9 in mind. But I’m not in the hurry to sell it since I will not buy the Z9 before a long time (second hand only, check my video about my strategy with GAS !) and because I have some nice Leica M lenses with the adaptor MtoL.

@@georged822 unfortunately I won’t. Still I have my S1R but I will no longer invest in this mount. I saw some videos about the f4 telezoom. Maybe you will find an answer to your questions. For sure it’s lighter and it makes a huge difference. I had times ago the F4 on Nikon and it was excellent in terms of image quality and so easy to carry around.
