What I notice about luna's english is that shes actually trying to do the thing we do where we put our tongue against parts of our mouth to pronounce things, especially L. Thats not easy for non-native speakers and its a sign she really is listening for the sounds
@drowningin2 жыл бұрын
I don't understand how you can talk in any language without using your tongue in different ways for sounds? Do they keep their tongue flat in Japanese?
@mello6311 Жыл бұрын
@@drowningin In a sense. Japanese tends to use the top part of their tongue (basically where your taste buds are) for a lot of sounds, especially since many words in Japanese revolve around the letters k, a, s, c, d, and a soft t. There aren't very many "sharp" letters and sounds in Japanese like L, or X, or R and T. The difference with how Japanese and English say R and T has to do with tongue placement and also the fact T and R are used as diacritics in English a lot which makes them much more pronounced, hence why Luna was asking if people could hear her saying the R. If you want to have an idea of how it can feels for Japanese people to speak English, try saying a word like "car" with a hard R sound as you normally would, and notice how your tongue may flex towards the back of your mouth on the R at the end to give it the sound you are familiar with. Then try saying car but consciously press your tongue down against the floor of your mouth without moving it when you say it and notice the difference. Fair warning I'm not a polyglot or a language professor or anything I just always found stuff like this interesting so I did a little of my own research and parroted the way I have heard some of the Hololive girls and Japanese speakers say English words to get a sense for why it may be so hard for them. Sorry for the novel lol

Her pronunciations are really good. She already over came that boundry of 'R' sounds and adding an extra vowel sounds at the end of words. Im looking over how she takes a breath after every word, cause she just has such low lung capacity.

We appreciate the efforts from all our lovely JP streamers, but there's something special about Nanolish. I think other comments here pointed out that she's going for *all the sounds* , not just understanding the meaning of the words, which is extra brave of her. Also her current accent is like cotton candy.

For my experience learning english, I think learning british english for japenese would be easier to pronounce. Recieve pronounciation, I mean. The BBC type of english. The strong R in north american accents always get them because of the lack of the sound in japanese 😭
@SuddenXxdeathxx3 жыл бұрын
That's probably a good idea given that she's already dropping the r at the end of car, something seen in many a British accent.
