What are you, some kind of idiot? The only thing about Luna that the Indians considered sacred was the tourism dollars she brought in. They're the reason she was killed. White people wanted to return her to her pod, but the fucking Indians blocked every effort. Shame on them, and on you!

She's enjoying time with her relatives who aren't exactly as big as she is, but with the same big hearts! The orcas know the songs and the people know the orcas. It's a deep relationship and I love to see it.

That sweet loveball wouldn't hurt a cell on their bodies. He's from the same land they are, it's a symbiotic relationship. The orcas are their own nation, and they know the traditional songs of the Indigenious Peoples who live nearby.

Yes I totally agree!! When the sientist's made the first brain scan of orca's, they were shocked. These animals have a piece of their brain which we human's are still missing. It is Al about social and emotional. These animals are like this for min 2 Mill year's when we were still neanderthaler's, if you believe the Darwin theory. But why do they have 5 "finger's" unter their sidenflugs and almost 2 legs under their tail+ the human fetus looks in the first weeks just like an orca.And the orca fetus like human's. If you think it further: orca pregnancy is 18 month's. Maybe they need so much time to be so amazing intelligent and emotional and we are still behind them. And I believe the first nation's have so much more connection to nature than all other rasse's!!! It is getting brainwashed out of us in Kindergarden, but I do not think that we have the same feelings and instinct's for nature as babies like the first nation's have and especially HAD before the white people came with their silly "civilisation". Yes, there is an very old connections from human to orca, whales and dolphins. They found picture's from the Stone age where dolphin's helped human's fishing!!!

Beautiful, amazing, heart-rending! Our beloved orca, our lonely, precious Luna. Like everyone else here, I, too, grieve his loss, even after so many years. Still, videos like this make me smile, and always will! It is truly a privilege to see his love today, and to see him being loved in return. Luna adored us as only an animal can--innocently, openly, and freely. In some ways, that sentiment was bitterly repaid, however unintended...yet it is clear that many of us loved him, too-not for mere amusement, but as an individual and friend to be cherished. Now as then, Luna teaches us to appreciate orcas and their right to be free. His legacy of friendship lives on, in me and in every human being who is touched by his life.

I am so enamored and in awe with this orphaned, male Orca named Luna, who for six years, kept reaching out to his fellow mammals in Nootka Sound for companionship. I'm so sorry that the Fisheries & Wildlife Department did not allow his human friends--yes, FRIENDS--to escort him by boat to find his pod. If he did not "take" to him, then he could have simply swam back along side the boat back to the sound. The First Nation did right by Luna in saving him from some dreadful plan to have captured him and transported him 200 miles. This Orca touched many lives and, having learned about him by watching the film "The Whale," I must say that I was deeply moved as well. Love to Luna.

I think you need to actually read what happened. The locals, including these dumb as rocks pelicans, didn't want luna to leave, thus signing his death warrant via boat propeller.
@HellPatrol92
@HellPatrol92 4 жыл бұрын
It is not so simple. Actually, Luna would not swim out of Nootka Sound, not even if lured. That was Plan A to try to reunite him with his family, but didn't work. That is why the DFO resorted to Plan B: taking Luna and bringing him south. No one was completely right or uninterested. The Natives wanted him there because they said to believe he was a reincarnated chief that had died. The DFO had a Plan C which was taking Luna to an acquarium in case the reunion did not work. Of course moving Luna would have been a bit shocking for him, but he so badly needed the love and interaction of fellow orca, which he missed and that's why he turned to humans. The same operation had worked in 2002 with a Northern resident orca calf that was reunited with his pod after being captured and moved. It could work with Luna, too. I'm not saying it was easy. Everybody was worried for him. But preventing him from being moved because of some legend wasn't so open either. I think most people loved him and wanted the best for him, especially people like DFO officer Ed Thorburn, who loved him to the point he would drive him to the pen and lose Luna's trust to see him reunited with pod L. It's easy to depict it "good indians, evil DFO", but despite the DFO chiefs being very murky there still were DFO officials who loved Luna as much as it gets and wanted the best for him. He was playing with boats the whole time because he missed a 24/7 pod with him. The outcome was inevitable, but at least he was loved and cuddled to the last. I just wish he got a chance with his pod at least
@mo58487
@mo58487 2 жыл бұрын
@@HellPatrol92 This is correct. The film didn't say it but let's be honest - the First Nations was angry at the DFO and they foiled the plan to reunite Luna with his pod. We know how this ended. And it's a hard thing to say b/c Jamie Johnson's part of the film was beautiful, but....this was their fault. This animal died in the pissing contest.

I just stumbled across videos of him. Animals are so nuanced, empathetic, and intelligent. It breaks my heart that his story ended the way it did. It wasn't because of their silly unknown beliefs that Luna was not returned to his family, it was because the government was lying to everyone by saying they where going capture Luna and return him to his family, when all along they were planning on catching him to Either sell him Seaworld or some other aquarium. NOBODY wanted that. Luna was too special to be kept in a fish bowl. It was much better that he died wild, than being oppressed like Tillikum.
@zambranaml
@zambranaml 10 жыл бұрын
Actually, no. Six Flags was going to get Luna, not SeaWorld. But when Luna died, Six Flags closed its one-orca exhibit, then sold and moved that female, Shouka, to SeaWorld San Diego. If Luna hadn't died, there's no telling how many years that he and Shouka would have spent together in the small, insufficient Six Flags tank.

It's the songs. These songs have been sung for thousands of years, and as a result have been essentially passed down among the orcas as well. The bass carries especially well in water. The First People know what they're doing, and this is an affirmation of a relationship that has existed long before settlers ever thought anything else existed outside their own villages.

Canadian Government: "The best way to protect this lonely animal is to isolate it and ignore it. Don't be its friend. Other orcas will magically appear and adopt it, even though that is not normal or typical behavior for orcas. Trust us, we're experts."

@jaythesiren 3 жыл бұрын
@@thudthud5423 that’s not what happens, Luna lived 6 years alone. “Magic adopts” weren’t a thing. Is it possible? Sure but did it happen? No! And is it critically dangerous for a young orcas to spend the foremost of its developmental years COMPLETELY ISOLATED? Absolutely. Trust me any human interaction he got was better than total isolation. Trust me I’m an expert.

@eentweedrievier8645

I don't think that they were being irrational. In the beginning they were open to returning Luna to his pod. But I do think that Seaworld/other businesses started showing interest in a young, male orca that has gotten used to being around people and has ''fresh'' blood (new genetic material to keep the captive orca population strong). It's just too much of a coincidence. Here, in my country (The Netherlands), they also said that they were going to reunite the orca Morgan with her family. She currently resides in Loro Parque Spain while her family is in the seas of Norway. Young, female, fresh blood and used to people. These people of the First Nation did the right thing, protecting the killer whale. Maybe he could have been reunited with his pod (I doubt so, his pod suffered heavily losses because of footshortage) but the chances that he would have ended up in a fishbowl somewhere in a amusement park were too high.
@the14wout
@the14wout 7 жыл бұрын
Eentweedrievier they never said they would return Morgan to the wild. They wanted to try to do that and if there was the chance to, they would have done it. But Morgan is deaf, so the chances of her losing here pod again were to high. Unfortunately, but I think she is taken care well of right now in Loro Parque, at least, I hope so. (Also from the Netherlands)

@@the14wout They are using her for breeding. Her first calf died young. There is film footage of her ramming her head against the gates repeatedly and chewing the concrete sides of the pool. She is constantly bullied by the other Orcas and has been teeth raked to the point where she needs antibiotics constantly to protect her from infection. Loro Parque is a disgusting prison, no better than Sea World. Yes she is deaf but she is imprisoned, exploited, enslaved and dominated by humans that know that they do not have her best interested in mind.

I've seen a few films of him and he's never with his family. I wonder what happened to them or how he got separated from them. Going to keep digging to find out his whole story if possible. I didn't know he had passed on, save for the comments that I've seen stating so. What a shame, he's so lovely and I do agree with having cages around the motors. That's an excellent idea.

Actually, the people trying to relocate him were not going to bring him back to his family. They were going to put him in captivity. In the end, the natives did what they were supposed to do. Luna looked like he loved them a lot anyway.

Just read the wiki bio of this orca and cannot believe the tragic way in which he died. Worst thing about it was that he was only 6 yrs old at the time which is literally still just a young child in orca years. If tugboats have the power to do what one of them did to this poor orca, then maybe we shouldn't have them around in areas where whales and seals normally frequent to come up to the surface.

Luna, was a gift from God to those locals however, the stupidity of ignoring such humble creature and leaving him to the mercy of a tugboat propeller . It is just painful to think about that little orca.
