They should give Luna an Ai mixing assistant to handle things like suggesting something like a side chain or a limiter on a track that needs it and if the user says great idea! Do it ! Like Hal in 2001 Luna actually inserts it correctly were needed. Also entering notes in instruments with the human voice ( which is currently available in plugin form for now) would eliminate controllers for sequences and playing virtual instruments. Cars can drive themselves and even learn the road and environment around them so daws shouldn’t need handholding with shortcuts and hot keys that ruin inspiration when writing in really important moments. Those two abilities alone would crush the competition out of existence quick .👽✌️

Thanks for sharing this feedback - but I completely disagree. In my honest opinion, the advent of AI and digital tools that make it easier for people has only led to shittier and shittier artists who barely can perform without a backing track. Music and music production is a talent, taking the talent out and replacing it with an algorithm IMHO is no bueno. And while, day dreaming about how easy life would become does sound nice - I eventually land on the same point every time ... why even bother creating if the AI is just gonna do it for you? Idk. @@TheSteveKinney producers think they’re better composers by nature of the BUISSNESS ! Also great “song “ will never get discontinued but key commands and entering data with them will ! I guarantee it. Things have become too cumbersome and it’s steering the music more than a mixing assistant would for sure . Production isn’t the reason a song is popular … people are . I just saw an interview with Trent who said he’s using the machine mk3 to write and that’s because everything is right there in front of him and is pattern based and SONG driven . Daws are minutia driven . Think about it “less is more “ in the song creation world and hot keys and handholding computers is an unbelievable waste of time compared to writing on a single instrument and recording the performance on a cassette player in real time which impresses me a hell of a lot more than perfectly produced garbage.✌️👽

With the AI tools you advocate for means that you don’t have to sound good at all, and can let the AI edit your way to sounding good based off data. @@TheSteveKinney none sense . It’s not about it being EASIER . Elegance and simplicity go hand in hand . It’s become this quest to get the computer to do production tricks with magical qwerty commands instead of it being a collaborative process of producing music with the machine that is also participating . I personally look forward to seeing companies develop software that is focused on “making music first “ so a program that asks questions and learns from the experience of collaboration with the composer would be a boon in a production environment were getting great things done quickly and with all the ducks in a row is the goal. Or does a talking or communicating program itself put you off to the concept ? We waste shit loads of time everyday hand holding a computer DAW ! It’s simple as that . Folks who fear Ai will continue to tap away ( occasionally tapping in the wrong command and screwing the pooch ) because they spent so much time memorizing those commands they resent the idea of not needing them at all. If it sounds like sci fi well maybe the qwerty replaced tape for you but for me it feels like a mistake every time I use it . Oh and I agree tape does sound better too but it’s not as feasible anymore! So an AI assistant to coproduce material that the industry knows is ready to go out of the box because that’s a time and money saver which the industry loves is coming my friend . What’s the term again ? in the pro world ?“ Production Ready “ I believe. The mastering Ai is only the tip of the iceberg I think maybe yes? ✌️👽

Why do we use computers and plugins instead? Because it can artificially fill in the talent gap between true talent and actual talent. Which ultimately hurts the industry. Imagine the world Elvis didn’t get discovered because some other artist used auto tune to artificially have more talent? This is my point. AI makes our life easier at the cost of true talent. I know it’s coming and it’s impossible to avoid, the only thing any of could do would be to embrace it and try to find creativity in it. But in reality, sucking the soul out of music. I’m just one man and it’s just my opinion. If you can press one button and it makes a hit ready song, what’s the point of creating at all?

Quick question, I’ve been using Luna lately and there’s a feature I’m looking for but I can’t find it anywhere. I don’t know if you used pro tools, but there’s a feature called Vari Fi you can do like a slow down on tracks for like a transitions. Do you know if there’s a way to do that in Luna?

It’s the way logic opens up all the different takes from a track in a sort of drop down thing. Then you can just drag and highlight from the take you want.

Steve do you have a method for using MetricAB or another reference plugin in Luna? I know in Studio One you can set up an alternate output that doesn't pass through the Main Mix bus, is this doable without UAD hardware?

Metric a/b should be able to load into Luna. It’s just a plugin, yeah? Anyways, all you’d have to do - is create a new bus or track and route it to monitor L&R. That would still go out your main speaker outs - but would be outside of your mix bus.

FYI, some folks are experiencing a bug with track freeze. You can pick up on the specifics of what's going on at UADForum but the gist of it is the audio from frozen tracks is disappearing after exiting a Luna session and coming back later. The track waveform is replaced with "Offline" notation. Aliased files from the tracks show up in the Trash Can. For some folks the audio can be restored by unfreezing, but you are back to square one. Support tickets I'm sure are piling up at UA and I'm sure they'll be all over this shortly, hopefully. ** Update ** The good folks at UAD in response to the issues folks were having have resolved this issue with a Hotfix Update. All works great now.

Nope. It’s essentially a bounce in place - except you can’t edit it / cut / warp audio. So. Same sound quality. Safe to use for final mix.

Ya - so far - the best thing to do is to bounce your audio 1 by 1 and reimport. Crazy they haven’t fixed it yet. I’m with ya. The advantage though is that you will use less system resources once you disable ezdrummer after reimport.

Can you flatten the frozen track? In my case I’ve bounced all tracks from Ableton but I switched up 8 bars with an omnisphere bass synth but I’ve frozen 🥶 but want to commit. How do you flatten it to make an audio track?

Two easy ways. Take the track and output it to a virtual channel Add a new track and set the input as the same virtual channel and then hit record and now you’re recording directly into the new track. Or return to the zero point in the project and just export the track by itself. Then import as a new track. That’s how I’d do it.

when I do Duplicate Session, I have no idea where the project file goes. I would like to make a complete back up of projects before I monkey it up. Is Duplicate sort of like Save As? thanks

there are truly two ways of doing that - so firstly - the duplicated session file saves in the original files same enclosing folder. Which you should always be defining upon session creation. Secondly, inside of the luna's project folder - they have a thing called "versions" which allow you to create completely separate iteration of the project without having to double the project files themselves on your hard drive. either way works. but just food for thought.

I did notice that all media files are contained within a session file so that's awesome , I can duplicate that and send it to a different computer too

Just wanted to through out that other option though - as it's a great way to do alternative mixes without messing with the original version but not blowing up your hard drive space from duplicating all files etc.
