It was too funny, featuring my video right next to the one from Mike Lyon! :) Extremes indeed! Some fantastic lunar slices and individuals were shown and Mike's 101 was as educational as always! But... (rich coming from someone who was spent the Hangout comfortably sleeping) it's a pity you haven't talked more about the problem of 'fake' lunars out there. As you can very easily find an earth rock that superficially resembles some of the shown, classified lunar material, there are a lot of people out there that believe that they have possibly found the first 10 lunars from temperate climate right in their garden. That is why most amateur 'finds' are 'lunar' or 'martian', not OC's or irons. Without that important warning, showing this huge range of different lunar material could lead to an (small) explosion in meteowrong lunar finds.
@TopherspinMeteorites2 жыл бұрын
That is one of the reasons why I put my meteorite or meteor wrong up video last week showing terrestrial 'Lunar' compared to real Lunars. I have made a point to only show real meteorites during the hangouts. It would be confusing for the small-minded to keep switching back and forth.

Добро пожаловать. На Луне есть много типов горных пород, а брекчии представляют собой более мелкие камни, сколотые вместе. Наверняка есть большое разнообразие. Пожалуйста, подпишитесь и наслаждайтесь.

QUESTION: A statement was made something to the effect of the only lunar falls being either Desert or Antarctica; by definition, these were actually witnessed? Or are all lunar finds, North America, et al, thought to have originated from the Antarctica and Desert falls, when continents were more landlocked, and Pangaea-esque? Is it correct to assume placement of both falls is largely the influence of the Earth's magnetic field? Thanks for all. Depending on the KZbin source, I've either got bunches and bunches.... Or not so many. Most originate from the Mojave Desert of CA and the plains of CO. Hoping all finds you and yours well.
@TopherspinMeteorites2 жыл бұрын
There has never been a witnessed and recovered lunar meteorite fall on Earth. All Lunar samples that have been found on Earth have been found in Antarctica or in Africa. (Except Calcalong Creek from Australia) This has nothing to do with pangea or the Earth magnetic field. It all has to do with what will last and where it will last. Lunar samples degrade very quickly on Earth. Only hot and cold deserts can save them long term.

Found one. North East England about 2012. The matrix is almost all microscopic glass, and the spherules are amazing. Some even has tails.
@TopherspinMeteorites Жыл бұрын
You are claiming to have found the first ever Lunar from England / UK? There wouldn't be spherules inside a Lunar meteorite since they are Achondrites not Chondrites containing chondrules.
@rockliquor1329 Жыл бұрын
Lunar regolith does contain crystalline sphereules often in great amounts that look remarkably like chondrules! as well as agglutinates. But lunar sphereules never have tails, they can be elongated depending on the impact plume but never have tails which are caused by a combination of gravity and drag from an atmosphere, both of which lack on the moon

I don't offer free services to help ID stones. I am not a trained Geologist. Do you believe that you really have a meteorite? Submit pictures to: facebook.com/groups/isitameteorite or facebook.com/groups/meteorite.or.meteorwrong. The power of the Facebook Groups I recommend is that there are a bunch of knowledgeable geologists and meteorite people in there.
