its not just lifter to lobe problem,make damn sure the lifters spin freely in their respective bores,spin freely by hand cold esp,alot of these cams I've looked at for customers shows lifter wear on the sides of the lifters,food for thought,very important

I love running the engine around 7 or 8 hundred RPM at Idle so you get to hear the cam sing nothing better the a RB Mopar
@eatmagnumrevolver30483 жыл бұрын
Per the TACH in the video, the engine was running at ~ 600 R.P.M. This low an RPM on a new engine/cam can bring DEATH to a new cam and lifters, it only needs a "few minutes" operating at this low of RPM and HIGH LIFTER LOADING to start the damage. If you are building a new engine never run your new engine this low an RPM for "entertainment value" Ideally, you want the lowest loading possible on these new parts. Depending on how radical your cam is I like to break them in between 1600 - 2200 RPM for at least twenty minuets the "first cycle" this gets you up to temp and oil pressures and allows you to check on any oil, water and fuel leaks. If everything is still Jake, then it's time to inspect the valvetrain, check the rockers, springs and locks. Let the engine cool and re-check the lash. Now it's time for a longer break in run, start the engine up and set the idle ~ 2200 RPM give or take a hundred or so, what you want to hear is that sweet "floating sound" as if the engine has no load on it at all. I run this "second cycle" for an hour. Depending on the engine I may run several more hour long cycles, remove and inspect internals of the oil filter, replace break-in oil if needed Once broke in, NEVER operate your high lift long duration cam engine with low idle settings. Idle "set" somewhere between ~900 (on the low end) and ~ 1500 (on the high end) on how "BIG" your cam is will help your cam, lifters and bearings serve a long life, you will also benefit from a cooler running engine, better oil flow and pressure....there are wins allover here.

How much power is it making? I have a similar setup but with a 360 and the same exact cam with speedpro H116CP pistons and a 308 head with cast iron 340 intake with a 6322 Thermoquad carb.

@cdoublejj6 жыл бұрын
small block is where it's at. smaller pistons and rods weight less which means you can turn more Rs, N/A that is. forced induction or extra deep pockets/fund changes things. if your rich they do have quick rev n/a big block 500 CIs.
@frigglebiscuit74846 жыл бұрын
can turbo the big block too....small blocks will never make the power big blocks will.

Danny Russell Is the noise coming from the bellhousing/ flywheel normal? It’s like a chatter, when you increased the rpm’s at 7:30 the noise/chatter went away. I have a 440 in my 74 challenger and it seems to make the same noise as your in this video. I was told I had the wrong flywheel/plate. Have you heard this before? Thank you for your time, great video

You need a breaking in oil with an anti scuff additive the engine must be hi r.p.m. 2,000-2.500 as all that oils the cam lobes is throw off from the crank.Yes , I taught Hi Perf. for 40 years, 2 in Malvern Pa.

Dude you didn't get yourself a set of some Old B-1 head's The Indy Intake & head combo alone was like a 200 HP kick in the balls OH MY Man you really don't need the fan right now it will be some time before your gonna need the fan why not let it get hot then turn the fan on .. Operating temp and NOT allowing it to idle top low is the right way to go not down so low you flicker the low oil light You put that car in drive and you will stall the car why would you ever set the idle so low do you think its impressive camshaft wise well I hate to be the guy to tell you this but in real motorhead circles thats NOT what we like
@randomuser888395 жыл бұрын
Michael Laverty how bout you shut the fuck up. If you ain't got nothing nice to say don't say shit. It's on a stand due to tuning/break in purposes. Do you know what tuning means? Probably don't even have a classic ride of your own.
