Cool story about the Firestorm comic Mike. I remember when I was 7 or 8 years old and my mom, brother, and I moved across town and we lived two blocks from 7-Eleven. This was back when the G.I. Joe comic books first came out in '83 or '84. We were able to get copies of the third, fourth, and on and on issues of G.I. Joe from that 7-Eleven and were completely blown away. Your story totally reminded me of that time! 👍

Hi Mike, thanks for this round up video. I really like those old Kenner X-Men figures. I got a lot of them, too in my "playroom" as my wife likes to call my man-cave. What a great story regarding the background of Firestorm no. 1. I am still a great Firestorm fan, too, and I just love those old books from the 80´s.

Man your videos always make me feel warm and fuzzy in my tum tum. It's awesome to find a youtuber who is into so many of the same books, characters and artists I am. I have 2 copies of Firestorm No 1 and for a longtime they were the pride and joy of my collection too. I've been on the hunt for a high grade copy of Justice League No 3, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold's first meeting, and found one yesterday. And I have just recently bought a beat up copy of The Brave and The Bold No 75, not only is it a Spectre heavy issue, it's also the first Neal Adams Batman cover art. Keep making those amazing videos Mike.

You did well on the Blackhawk books. That particular iteration of the team was a bit hokey but still a cool book. Blackhawk kind of lost its appeal once you took it out of the WWII/Korea era but with the right writer they could be a "Top Gun" type group. Loved seeing the books you picked up.

When l was growing up reading comics in the late 1970’s Marvel and DC we’re introducing new characters. Marvel had Spiderwoman, Nova, and Ms. Marvel to name a few. DC had Black Lightning, Dawnstar, and for me Firestorm. There was something about this character l just loved. He seemed so original. Different. I had always wished this series had not discontinued. I thought it had great potential. I still have those books and I can’t part with them!

That Firestorm issue brings back memories. My introduction to Firestorm was DC Comics Presents # 17. Who is Firestorm I asked. He was a new character when I started to collect. I had bought the first issue through a mail order dealer along with the remaining run. An exciting time it was. Great video.

You can totally negotiate with someone who is not there, the mall wants to sell booth owners items for the commission the mall gets so they should be willing to call the owner. I run a comic book booth at an antique mall here in Oklahoma and get calls occasionally from the mall employees when people want to negotiate. I am flexible for the most part so it usually leads to a deal.

Mike! Loved this round up! So many great stories built within each find/auction/sale! You mentioned that you used credit card points on an Ebay pick-up, I'd love to see a video all about your little tricks and various ways you build your comic/antique fund between hunting. Oh and love the X-Men Toybiz figures. That booth looks like it had a lot more goodies too!
@revoltpuppy
@revoltpuppy Жыл бұрын
I haven’t had very good luck bidding in non-Ebay auctions, as far as getting a deal on comics. Ebay just seems to have the most competitive prices. Plus they always stick you with that buyer's premium in the end! Makes it hard to know what you’re actually bidding.

This is the first time I've come across your channel. That is what l used to do spend all my lunch money on comics. I have all those Marvel figures from the 5 Inc line. They used to be so cheap, for the once l liked I would buy two, one to keep, one moc. I don't have a lot of DC Comics other than a few Superman & Batman, but l did pick up that Fire Storm #1. One of the comics l have been after was Uncanny X-Men #50 with the Jim Steranko cover. I got a high-grade raw copy last year, and then l got all the once in that run. Were you a teenager when you started to buy comics on a regular basis.

I think that caveat regarding the prices being listed at FMV was necessary, thank you for including the “and there’s nothing wrong with that” part, the comic community needs to hear that sometimes. They are a retailer, they should be allowed to sell at FMV, it’s called Fair Market Value for a reason, and the community, especially certain segments, often think that the prices should be set much lower. With all this said, while a retailer isn’t there to sell at price to make arbitrage enticing, it is still nice to get some deals. When the company’s main business does not participate mainly or directly in the comic marketplace, the prices should reflect that more. Personally I think FMV is overrated given how often deals happen below that price point.

Firestorm is a character whose potential has never really been investigated. His powers of molecular transmutation should make him one of the most powerful characters in the DCU just as the Molecule Man should be one of the most powerful Marvel characters. I've attended a few auctions at conventions and I agree that it's a buzz, but of course you have to bid with your head and not your emotions. X-Men 96 is the first X-Men issue I ever bought apart from the mid-1970s Aussie reprints of X-Men 1-10. The Adams cover for 58 is so eye-catching, the orange and yellow just jump out at you. Overall, a fantastic lot of comics, especially the X-Men issues.

If there were no risk of repercussions sure, but they could ask KZbin to strike the video if they have a legal reason, and that would lock the channel until it’s removed. I also wouldn’t want to risk getting banned from the place if they have another comic auction. Unlikely events but I wouldn’t want to risk it.
