Yes you explained well assimilation is total uptake of foreign culture not just language 🙏,Well I speak oromo digo,luo,Swahili,kamba,dawida ,maragoli which is close to abarondo the original assimilated abasuba ..also close to luganda ..this is koz I lived on different places where the natives spoke only their languages mostly at a younger age u pick languages faster ages of 2-20 if u lived in more than 6 regions u will pick their languages within ,,just as sons of ochieng oneko speak Kikuyu koz they stayed in central Kenya during the infamous kapenguri 6 detention and the sons of the Kikuyu liberation fighters who were jailed in islands along lake Victoria also speak luo ..so assimilation is not mostly by language ,, assimilation is cultural ,spiritual ,economic and even practices

The Luo are diasporic(at least 20million spread out) and settled thousands years with skilled warriors(e.g Owiny) through conquest, intermarriage and assimilation e.g Luo-Suba in Kenya, Tanzania and Luo-Babito in Uganda with tendencies for large families thanks to history of polygamy in the past like all other AFRO groups. The Luo conquered several kingdoms in the past through their southward movement and contributed to banyarwanda tutsi southwest movement to present day Rwanda/Congo, influencing rulership for Luo-babito and Baganda Kingdoms.

The reasons for assimilation could be varied, as you have demonstrated. Among my Iteso people there is a clan called Ikomolo, literally translated as "Omolo's people. ' As a clan, there are many things that the Ikomolo clan do that are every un-Teso-like. Different totems and practices. However, there is no doubt as to their 'Tesoness.' It is said that they are remnants of the Jok Omolo sub group of Luo as they immigrated into Kenya and Tanzania, who stayed behind and adopted Teso culture.

Apparently, the second wave of Luo migration from Sudan moved into where Bunyoro kingdom became situated, and strangest of all, assumed leadership position, but at the same time dropped their own language and culture and fully adopted the language and culture of Bunyoros. I found it to be strikingly similar to how Tutsis found their way into the area where Rwanda is situated, and they adopted the language and culture of Hutus, though they were the kings, despite being a minority. I think there is alot of assumptions in the narratives of assimilation that are very inconsistent with known verified historic events. The question is did majority assimilate minority or did minority assimilate majority?? Given that luos found and displaced bantus in Kenya lake victoria shores, its seems more likely that they were majority in all situations and its only minority bantus that were assimilated. We can also deduce from the case of Babito dynasty in Uganda, that minorities luos dont assimilate a majority group. In this case they ruled the bunyoro but never assimilated them. If they didnt assimilate bantus that they ruled then definitely they did not assimilate any bantu they encountered in Kenya but they only assimilated remnants of the bantu tribes who lost territory to them. The other important question, if subas for example are not luos, then where are the descendants of the luos who assimilated them? It seems they are the decendants of the very same luos they claim to have assimilated them. They are the decendants of the luos who conqured those lands but they have confused their identity with that of the remnants who some still speak their native bantu languages.

The entire northern border of the Kenyan Luo is lined with assimilation, with some Luos moving into bantu land and bantu coming into Luo land.
@odochokee9856 Жыл бұрын
Even in busoga Luo were assimilated . The bulamogi of busoga were originally Luo. They still maintained some Luo burial customs and royal regalia and recognise their origins.

Oooh did they lose the language?
@KPtravels001 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, but are they assimilations or just people from other ethnic groups being able to speak luo (even though they still retain their original language and cultures?). For example, many kisiis are able to speak luo even though they still speak kisii and follow kisii culture
@odochokee9856 Жыл бұрын
@@KPtravels001 they lost their Luo language. But maintained Luo physical features as well as several customs relating to royalty.

Many Luo clans are of Bantu origin. You have Wasweta in migori Homa Bay, and several other clans that have a totem (e.g. Kagak), Urany in Seme, and a multitude of clans in Gem/Alego/Igenya whose names start with “U”. They only speak Luo and are culturally Luo today, with no hint of their origin. In fact many think the expansion of the Luo was more acculturation than migration.

Matilda your language is Luo, you're Luo. You are flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood. There is no benefit in dwelling in the past and focusing on things that only bring isolation. We are one, we are Luo.

@@rayodhiambo8130lol nice try buddy 😂😂😂 You are trying to erase other peoples’ idenity and history, so they can assimilate into yours? That’s not going to work anymore. We are in the age of information and technology. We have the internet now. The truth is available to everyone. Complete assimilation doesn’t work in this day and age

reconnecting with your lost language doesn’t mean “isolation”. I can see you are very smart and charming with your words, therefore you can easily manipulate other people. But you cannot fool me.

@oumaedwin198 Lango only speek a mixture of broken Luo dialects with Ateker dialects so they could not have been long speaking this. The Lango elders still remember proper lango language to date. google "counting in ancient leb lango"

The Anywaa are the strongest and stable of all Luo tribes. Am a Kenyan Luo but I respect Anywaa ( Annuak) I didn't know Luos were in Europe till I looked at their history. They brought civilization in The Americas, they were called The Tall and Dark God People and were nicknamed ANNUNAKI (ANNUNAK) as the other nations thought Anyuak came from space (heaven)

Belanda Bor are distinct from Balanda Bviri (Ubangians) so no they were not bantu. Belanda Boor is formed from the autonym Boor and the central-Sudanic Bongo word Beerlanda. In Bongo, beer is the ethnonym for all their Lwoo speaking neighbours. The word “landa” means hills and mountains. The Boor neighbour and mingle with the Bviri with whom they have evolved strong social and cultural ties over the years. They also neighbour the Azande, who invaded, enslaved and dominated them in the 19th century, to the south. The Bongo neighbour them to the east while the Ndogo to the west and north.
