Nice place to do some fishing. Perfect weather. Not a place to go on a foggy day for sure. Getting caught on an "island" by a rising tide can be quite dangerous. When the tide is rising near us here in Nova Scotia, it comes up about a foot every 10 minutes. On a flat area it covers over at a brisk walking pace so you really have to know where you're going to keep ahead of it.

Just subbed, love the two vids I`ve seen, so pleased I've something new to binge watch. I`m in Scotland and predominantly fly fish for wild trout, although enjoy catching sea fish on lures/bait too. Most memorable time ever, was fly fishing a white shell sand beach on west coast of Harris at 5am, and landing 16 sea trout. Almost all Sea trout, circa 90 + % are female Brown trout that migrate to sea, with the remainder males. That's why you will find them pretty much all around UK coast near fresh water inlets where Brown trout live. From what I understand its believed to be a survival of the species thing, as if a small % of fish are at sea and there is a pollution event in the home water, the genetics will survive and eventually re-establish the population. Almost all large sea trout are female. Appreciate the effort you put in to your production, the quality of filming and explanation of tackle and techniques, although I`m now going to have to shell out on a new lure rod 😆😆😅 I`m off to watch and learn more about Lure fishing now. All the best from Scotland, Slainte 🍻🍻

Nice going again lads, cracking Trout the first one, they have a bit more about them than Bass the same size. Pity about the Turbot no show,was hoping you would have a session on them with the lures out there. Get them on our coast occasionally but not consistent enough to warrant regular lure sessions. I've had a few on big spoons or toby's with a single on tipped wit mackerel strip but only small.
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
Aye, we were a bit gutted about the turbot, but had a good laugh watching Lewis bait fishing. Think next time we'll go a little later in the year and focus more on them- they're one of my favourite fish to eat and like you only had mini's locally. Hope you're having a good bass season. Tight lines👍🎣
@robertgallacher7214 Жыл бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets Just up the road from St Abbs are some good beaches for bigger Turbot. I reckon a weighted Albie snax will do the trick, the 2lb plus ones seem to like a good bait and all the better ones i've had on bait have been right in close. Bass season a bit meh and fish been acting funny last 2 sessions, had a hit every cast for an hour and a half one night a week or so ago without a single hook up. Eventually they got going and had a fair amount up to maybe 5lb, was pissing down so straight back with them but we have only had a couple of sessions where they have been on it from the get go. Good average size again this year with plenty 4lbers but struggling for any decent ones. Mate reckons Lewis had a 70 last week, cracking fish the way it is again this year.
@SlippyLimpets Жыл бұрын
@@robertgallacher7214 just south too, nearnHoly Island, I've heard of some 5lb+ turbot coming to lures, close in. aye, I 've had the same experience with a lot of tail slapping and not come backs. No schoolies though. Think Lewis got his 70 while we were over in ireland. Lovely fish taken on a pollack coloured mad eel in the pitch black.
@robertgallacher7214 Жыл бұрын
@@SlippyLimpets Those beaches look spot on for them, think Warkworth used to chuck them out but it was all long range stuff onto a bar over low. The Fylde coast has been chucking huge ones out to 10lb i heard but it's supposedly stance specific and the netters move in if they see anglers in the same spots regularly. Saw lots of small ones down the big bay last year. Aye those big topwater hits with no hook ups are a definite feature this year. Thought it was a seal that came up at day break the last trip if it hadn't shown itself, the buggers definitely know the lures from the real thing at times :)

You were very fortunate with the weather, and that first fish was a stunner 👍 Try a bombarda float with a long leader and a sea trout lure - it can help minimise the effects of weed (I tie mine with a small spur of 6lb line to create a 'weedless' hook). With a bit of practice you can easily control the depth the fly/lure works at, even with a slow retrieve. Another great video - looking forward to the next adventure 👍
