So Franco, this is like a bicycle chain? As soon as you drew that “figure eight” type of hinge, I got your concept. Nice design. I love this.

Love these vids, I typically use the on you show on your own lures... I spent a lot of time on this subject because I build a lot of jointed Baits... I never thought of a double hinge... your Stuff always inspires me to think outside my little box!👍😁👍

Have you seen the strike pro gill raker series of baits? They have a similar hinge to the V except it has amazing action and very round shape bend do to how they attach the sections. The hardware isn't your typical screw lock style it's more a double u shape to u shape hinge that also shifts in and out allowing a very nice swimming action with not restriction of the V hitting and stopping it from having a nice bend and swim motion..

Yes they did a nice job on that lure. It's a little easier when you're dealing with a molded two-piece plastic body. Also it's five segments, that give you a little more motion across the whole length of the body. It's a nice lure for sure

@@EngineeredAngler Yes they did make a 5 segment but they also made the same bait in 3 segment I purchased them all in each color lol first time I ever did that with one style lure but they did do a great job I really liked how they did the segments. Also great video I found your channel just recently but been enjoying your content.. But yeah they ha e the 2 sizes same style lure just one is I believe 2.5 or 3.5 and the other is like 4.5 or something along those lines I purchased them last month so I don't Remeber exactly. But yeah I believe one is the 80 and the other is called the 90.. well have a great day

Okay sorry the smaller version is 3 segments but it's about 3.5 inches. Otherwise it's action is crazy compared to many other styles like you mentioned! That u shape connection between the joints allows it to shift in and out some allowing it to achieve that bend like you shared in the video that also allows it to swim so nicely compared to others

What about twisting? Seem like that would be the issue with that design.
@EngineeredAngler5 жыл бұрын
Twisting is an issue to be addressed (ideally ) in the lure body design. If you have twisting between segments it will at best reduce the swimming action and at worst render the lure unstable at quicker retrieve speeds.

It just hit me... I’m gonna order some stainless steel bicycle chain... if I can find it.

Don't get too carried away bicycle chain links are not long enough for most large lures. But good thinking right now I'm just fabricating the link plate from aluminum

One thing I have learned in the past twenty years of lure making is if it works good don't change it. I have been using double eyelet for henge's and they never fail. Don't take something simple and make it complicated. Lure building is not rocket science

I have to agree with you, that's the most reasonable approach. My problem is that I'm seldom reasonable in my Approach to things. I just love to experiment even when it has limited value in the end. Thank you for your input. It's nice to hear from the veteran lure Builder.

I have to disagree. How did you get to the method you currently use? There is always room for improvement. Hemp rope used to be fine until someone tried using metal to make the strands and now we have flexible cabling that can sustain bridges, and winch our boats onto our trailers. You are correct in saying we can overthink a problem, however lure making is a very competitive industry, and the better mouse trap will win the day. Only an opinion friend. Hope your lures are always full!
