Awesome I'm glad to hear it. I just got the Twistech wire former from watching this video. I'm glad I came across what you're doing with the wire for your baits I'm going to switch over to that style as well. I don't think I'll be able to make as good of a jig as you have for bending them but I might be able to make some sort of jig with the 3D printer. Thanks again the tool is awesome and will save me tons of time.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while but can’t think of something I can make that’s inexpensive, easy to make and most of all compact that I will want to take it with me. I fish BFL tournaments and just can’t see bringing stuff commercially available as they are usually too bulky and heavy.

I just gotta say thanks for posting this video. I've been forming wires with just pliers by hand and it was taking forever. I tried making jigs like yours but wasn't having much success with repeatability until I saw the wire bending tool you made. After looking at the pictures you posted on Facebook it only took me about 15 minutes to make one myself and I can now make the forms for my lures in about 30 seconds. Your videos are an amazing resource of information and I really hope your channel takes off. Thanks again for sharing your work.

I make a leader that wraps around the shaft of a 4/0 or 5/0 straightbait hook maybe 6 times then through the eye. Fwd of the eye is a straight shaft with a 5/8 inch or so narrow loop at its front which is then run through an anchovie from tail end up along the spine through the mouth. This fwd loop is for swivel snap connection as well as for a sm nail with a sm rubber band to pin the bait onto this leader/hook gizmo. The nail is fed from under jaw of bait up through loop through top of bait head and secured with rubberband. Its quite simple but slow with hand tools. Ive been using jewelers tools which were very inexpensive but am looking for a faster easier and more professional looking finished product. What might you suggest. Thx in advance.
@EngineeredAngler5 жыл бұрын
Well, I'll have to take your word for it that it is simple...from the description sounds like a bit of work. My efforts in improving wire bending systems have been focused on lure wire harnesses. Have you checked out some of the hand-held leader making devices? It sounds like they might be your best option. Look at the Du-Bro Kwk Twist or the Twistech Wire Former bench model.

Is there any chance you can go through a tutorial on how you determine the wire length and set your bending jig for each lure? I'm trying to get a through wire to work on a lure design right now and it is driving me nuts! Every time I bend and finish it's either too long or too short and I've tried to print a template jig and everything. I need your expertise this is driving me crazy lol.
@EngineeredAngler6 жыл бұрын
Revamped Outdoors the most common mistake that causes you to come up short on your wire is that you bend the side of the wire that's already measured and not the tag end. here is a link to a video I made a while back on this subject. let me know if it answers your questions. if not I'll try doing something a little better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXjcl4Wmaal_l6c
@RevampedOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Great thanks for the link. That technique looks like it will work great with the hand tools. I'm just having trouble figuring out total length I need for the wire when completing two complete wraps for the back and front eyes. I suppose I can try and just do a half wrap and let the tag end come back into the lure instead of finishing both ends.

Helpful video can you post where can l get wire bending tool.again thanks for your video.
I’m looking for something that’s capable of bending 2.2mm 316 annealed wire for tuna stickbaits harnesses as well as forming the barrel loops for the nose. Any idea if the tools used in this video would work?
@EngineeredAngler5 жыл бұрын
Dimensionally no, your wire would be too thick,..the techniques and tools on the video will not work. But the good thing about annealing is that it results in a material that is much easier to bend and with less "rebound memory". I mention this because it means you can do the radius bends with hand tools, don't need real industrial bending machines, and you could (theoretically) fashion a homemade machine to form the barrel raps.

On the tool you made , how did you do the black handle knob end that bends the wire ? Did you slot it ?
@EngineeredAngler6 жыл бұрын
Del, Thanks for the positive feedback. That black knob is a generic knob I had laying around. It's threaded in the center so I took a long bolt that fit, drilled an 1/8th inch hole in the center (of the bolt) at one end about 1/4 deep, ground down the end to a narrow tip, then filed the tip flat then filed a step in the tip so it would grab the wire. Then I jest super glued a short peace of nail in the hole and, voila! Let me know if you would like to see some better photos. I can post them on the facebook page also called Engineered Angler.
@delsmithfishing28916 жыл бұрын
