@Cryer24597 They are forced to be that way. Retail and workers dealing with consumers have to “entertain” them. So they are probably being watched and stalked by their manager and so they needed to keep bothering you just to not get fired or yelled at. It’s so annoying to work in retail, cause if you don’t bother the customers managers see it as you being lazy and not wanting to do your job.
@DemoniaSings

@Cryer24597 As someone who worked retail, we have to sadly do that. Majority of stores require for employees to be social, and interact a lot with customers in hopes of selling product or just overall advertising, making sure that the customer is having a good experience so that they return. It’s a pain, but it’s tactics used by almost all places

I feel like Lush would really benefit from those color coded baskets where like 'Green=Dont want help' , 'Yellow=Want help' etc Edit: I've worked a lot of retail and I know this system doesn't always work because someone still might get upset if they dont get help, and our managers would probably still push us onto customers

As someone who used to work at lush, trust me, we don’t want to be harassing you as much as you don’t want to be harassed. Our managers would make us go up to a customer three (sometimes more) times to try and get them into a demo to buy something. The problem is that they don’t trust the products enough to sell themselves so they result to harassing their clientele and bullying their staff into uncomfortable situations. Believe me when I say I would get frustrated and embarrassed when my managers would force me to talk to someone who clearly wanted to be left alone. Next time you go into lush, keep that in mind please and have patience for the employee awkwardly following you around.

@@Princess_Maya_19 don’t get me wrong. I truly did love working at lush. I wouldn’t had stayed there for two years if I didn’t. But after my store switched management, it went from a second family, to picking favorites and being uncomfortable at work. And the costumers could tell the difference as well. The company just has a lot to work on in general. For one, training their managers better on how to lead a floor.
@Princess_Maya_19
@Princess_Maya_19 3 жыл бұрын
@@suhey-lah5221 I completely agree with you. I made another comment about that same thing. The manager and the floor leads play a huge role in the atmosphere of the store because you have some leads that are chill and as long as the customers are being helped when they need it everything is good and they will actually check on customers themselves if they think they need help but you have other leads that just critique you the whole shift.

@@Princess_Maya_19 exactly! I can’t tell you how many times I was cutting soap behind the register or restocking the shop when the manager would come up to me and tell me to stop what I was doing and go help a customer or tell me I was doing something wrong or etc etc, meanwhile themselves, a floor lead or another sales associate was in the corner of the store on their Apple Watch or just standing doing nothing. And when it’s like that, it’s obvious to customers that it’s a toxic work environment. They can see it. It was just so weird when the shift happened though. We went from 15 people on our staff, to six and they “still didn’t have hours to give me.” They kept me at a seasonal position for two years when I finally told them I wasn’t going to stay with them if they weren’t going to appreciate the effort I was putting into my job.

Former employee here- we were forced to act like that or we would get reprimanded. It was horrible, minimum wage pay, everyone was kept part time so that they didn’t have to provide benefits, forced to attend mandatory meetings on days off for 30 minutes worth of pay, etc. I will never forget the time our store introduced free pedicures- we were to provide anyone and everyone a free mini-pedicure, in a small plastic basin of water for the customer’s feet (only quickly rinsed in the back of the store between uses) in the shop’s front window- working without any gloves or sanitation equipment that a proper salon possesses! That posed a health risk to both consumer and employees. I was appalled and quit (within a few months of starting.) They have an EXTREMELY high turnover rate. Before working there, I was a huge Lush fan, and now I will never shop there again. Also, they are not truly cruelty-free. It was well known fact that when the factory ran out of raw ingredients, like baking soda for bath bombs, they purchased from Arm & Hammer as a supplier, here in the US- learned this from my store’s management who toured a factory and had friends in the factory. Furthermore, when our store ran promotions, your free gift was actually expired product that we could no longer sell. Most products are “raw” without packaging, so you wouldn’t know which batch it was from and that it was indeed expired.

I was unaware this was an enforced policy and that’s awful. It’s one thing to ask customers if they need help or are looking for anything specific but it’s another to be told to constantly bombard the same person over and over( and at the risk of losing your job if you don’t comply to THEIR absurd standards of customer service).Especially since most people who buy lush already know what products they want to buy heading in and just want to grab those items without hassle.

Speaking as someone that was a manager for a retail store, these are enforced policies, the higher ups literally tell us to be on top of the consumers, even though we know y’all don’t like it-we don’t like it either, but that’s what the bigger heads want even though it comes off disingenuous and pushy, it’s stupid but not much these workers can do 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Many stores that have this „be there for the customer - policy“ have managers side eyeing everything the employees do, if they see you not approach a customer or not engage in a conversation you get a grilling right then and there. It’s really frustrating especially when employees notice the people are unwilling to talk, but still have to encourage a conversation. It turns away many customers, but the sale per person rises immensely for those who do wish for a consultation. I personally find the policy really intrusive and awkward, but then again if the employees express they aren’t ok with it management ALWAYS finds a quick replacement...

Jfc I once worked for commission at a job and I actually became suicidal. The sheer bloodthirstiness of the other employees was shocking and the amount of customers who’d act like they were intrested for half an hr only to reveal they had no intent would leave me in the bathroom crying. You wanna see sickos fuck with people for fun? Go into retail. It should be considered capital punishment. The crap you go through working in customer service eats at your SOUL. I actually use to work for Lush a couple years ago and we don’t make a commission on anything. And they do train us to be extremely attentive to customers. We find it just as odd as everyone else does but if we’re not like this out manager or floor lead will literally pull us to the side and critique us. One night I was working and I had checked on the customer twice and even though both times they said they were okay my floor lead made me go back over there and I literally just had to apologize to them thankfully they actually had a question that time I would killed myself if I had to go back over a fourth time

My local Lush shop has really nice employees lmao. They're not overbearing at all - if you say you've been before, they'll typically tell you what's new in, what's hot at the time and then leave you alone or help you to bag up/carry gift boxes. If it's the holiday season or you say you're buying for someone, they're swift in suggesting the best products for that person (example, my aunt loves winter berries and plums, and they picked out all the products of that type in mere seconds and helped me pick what was best). But if you say you know what you're looking for, it's all thumbs up, smiles and distance.

This is so close to my shopping at lush experience: Right from the start, I could literalmy smell the prodcuts outside from the store in the streets. As soon as I walked in with my friends, an employee came rushing to us in order to welcome us (it was almost like she half floated, half slided, no joke) and asked us if it was our first time there. So we said no and she got really excited and wanted to "give us a tour" (I was like: this is one single room but okay??) and then proceeded to show us around the store. Whenever we stumbled upon a different product, she basically forced us to try it out and always added a spray of glitter, saying that "nothing works without glitter here". Honestly it was probably the funniest thing that happened to me while shopping.

I am of course never rude, but in my head I’m almost like “pls SHUT THE HELL UP” 🙄. I worked in retail for years , and a *good* employee learns how to read customers and when they should ‘dial it in’ a bit, and when they should be more involved. Everyone is different, so you shouldn’t deal with everyone the same way . It’s really annoying actually

Just go. Let them show you what is new They have to do so...but if you really want to be left alone just say you know what you want. But seriously...they have to offer to help as part of their job and show you a few products. They won't guilt you to buy anything though... also...their recommendations actually are pretty good. I went in wanting a shower jelly and since not every jelly had a sampler I was reading the labels. A Lush employee asked what scents I liked more than others and I said I was not big on florals or anything too sweet, but liked things like coffee, dark chocolate, spicy and woodsy scents, and more unisex scents (those associated as being neutral). The Lush employee recommended Lord of Misrule to me which has black peppercorn in it...which is not something I would have tried but I love it now. One of my faves. I make it a rule to only go in when I really want to pic up a treat and 9/10 times I usually listen to the employees and go with their pic (although I have my faves like Wiccy bar and 9 to 5 cleanser which I get often).

Yuck. She sounds like, she’s either got one too many toxic narc traits, or is full blown NPD. It’s not normal, to take something so obviously GENERALIZED, or with genuinely-kind intentions, up the ass... as though that person was out to fuck with them; or that person should be a mind reader. If I was in another country, where a holiday suits predominantly... most customers, I wouldn’t EVER get offended, kindness is kindness... it’s with kind intention... and that, to me nowadays, although SO SADDDDDD; it’s sooooooooo appreciated!!! I literally have become emotional and touched, when there’s been a bad day, and some customer service rep, anywhere... is super sweet... VICE VERSA.... I literally... had a moment of tears; just on Christmas Day... I had called Starbucks, cause I had put an order in for Ubereats.. for my mother and I.... when it dawned on me “my fur-babies..totally deserve a Christmas puppaccino- no different than other times, I’ve physically gone through their drive thru with my dogs, and get them both one. So, I called ahead of time, to see if they were allowed to add that to my Ubereats order; so when my hero...Uber driver picked it up, it’d be ready with my drinks, too. I called, and..the sweetheart that picked up the phone, of course was OBVIOUSLY in an environment of CHAOS in the background..I already felt so bad for calling, assuming..of all days, they’re PACKED! Obviously, she had a great...solution that day, for all the calls, you could only assume, were coming in...for those that, simply choose to call rather than, look online for their possible answer first. I’m not sure if the manager on shift, had them doing this, but anyways..she picked up “thanks for calling Starbucks, our drive-thru is opened today, until 2pm”... Something along those lines... I immediately felt so bad, cause I thought “damnit, I wish that was all I was calling for, so I could let her go...case solved..” I apologized and said “thank you, I’m sorry..I actually had a different question..” and continued asking, what I mentioned I needed to know, above. By the end of the conversation, I apologized again, for interrupting...ON SUCH A CHAOTIC DAY...cause also, it was SO HARD TO HEAR, with everything in the background, blenders going off.. My heart broke so, unquestionably...FAST.. for her, for everyone in customer service today...FROM someone, that has worked customer service, or even working concierge for MANY years.. or even being a CNA, having to deal with family members, that truly believe...they’re the only people, with NEEDS in this world, while...that is one thing, it’s another... to be entirely RUDE and demanding about it...WHEN IN THE POSITION OF NEEDING HELP, but also so aware...that someone is trying so hard, while so busy..to keep up. This sweet soul, paused...and said “well, no, thank you..for being so, so kind and understanding (she had apologized about the extremely long line, ahead of time, despite it being my Uber driver picking it up)... everyone that has called today, has been very upset, and just not kind, its appreciated”... I just about wanted to say “ARE YOU KIDDING Me? I’m more upset, that this is totally BELIEVABLE.”... not for a second in my mind, do I doubt, I was likely either the only, or only of FEW.. that didn’t completely speak to them, like I had no regard... of not only them being human, but.. uH..... RISKING THEIR LIVES, working hard as hell during a pandemic, but also away from their families ON CHRISTMAS! I really really wish, I had a way of tipping her, herself through the app.. unfortunately, couldn’t... but, of course as always, tipped my uberEats driver... who confirmed, and it obviously was.... a 25 minute wait in the line. DISCLAIMER: by the time he told me, how long it would be, during our “chatting” on the app, he had already acknowledged he was half way thru; even if I would have canceled. A better solution, was tipping him more, not only cause it was Christmas, but because he could have done a few other orders, in the time he was waiting in that line. I’m by no means trying to be “that guy” that, brags on good deeds; these aren’t to be considered good deeds... pffft lol, this is just “a given”.... seriously, not walking among life, as an entitled prick, thinking every business, every person... I come to, has been waiting hand and foot, on my behalf, ready to race around and impress me, as I stand totally unimpressed cause, “why would I pat you on your back, for what you owe me”... this type of person, is repulsive... and deserves ANY lessons in life, that comes there way..... re-teaching them, what they CLEARLY, werent taught as children, by their parents, whom I can only assume, are the same way... overly-spoiling them, never being told no, and never being explained to “you will not always win, you will come to points in life where you’re not the best at everything you do or “try”... it’s just simple... decent parenting.. cause as we know, those with NPD, are either a result of... likely, abuse.. or being overly catered to... totally spoiled; not getting enough needs met.. etc. This is why, I honestly regret, people that GENUINELY would be diagnosed with NPD.. had to do some EXTENSIVE courses, before being allowed to have children... they eventually are punished for their issues. They go through life IGNORING, eventually teaching their kids, to always make it someone else, “as being the issue instead”... and the cycle continues.. I know I rambled on and on.. I’m sorry! Since, most of it didn’t regard your friend.. and I apologize sincerely, for the humiliation she caused you; trust me... that person, did not VIEW YOU, as being the same as your ex friend... Please, consider.. not, allowing her back as a friend, no matter the great apology she comes back with... this is only, if.. you would suspect her as having NPD. These individuals do not change, they avoid that they’re the issue ever, at all costs.

This I how it went: Lush employee: Hi!! do you need any help?? :D Me: ( being very shy so I was mumbling) : no thank you I’m just looking around. Her: okay just come see me if u need help :DD Me: continues to look around Her: comes over to me again and says “hii I see you are looking at this bath bomb Me: yeah still just looking around Her: would you like to test it? :) Me not wanting to be rude: uhm okay Her: takes me to the sink next to the bath bomb and puts it in Me: looks at it Her: Wanna touch it? Me: Uhhhh Her: it’s okay u will be fine Me : sure I guess and then I touch the bath bomb Her: drains the water abt 30 seconds later Me: taking my hand out the sink and then beginning to dry it on my clothes Her: Oh no no! Don’t do that! let me get you a paper towel . me: stands there waiting for her to come back awkwardly Her: comes back with paper towel Me: reaches for the towel and tries to dry my hands Her: takes the towel out of my hand and is like” give me ur hand” so then she literally begins to dry it for me like what. I can do it myself. I know my story was rlly boring but I never went back there. I was diagnosed with anxiety and like most struggle with social interactions. God forbid we get customer service. The alternative is being ignored with the feeling of unwelcomed. She has never worked retail otherwise she'd understand the joy customer service brings one.

I honestly like being interacted with cause I’m weird and I talk too fucking much.I also end up buying things not on my list but they become useful at some point so yes please keep showing me shit to buy.

I was in an empty mall last week and passed by Lush and wanted to go in but there were no customers but there was two employees staring at me anticipating me to go inside but I didn't because I was low he kind of scared of the fact that I would have to go there by myself and both of them would be following me around the store watching my every move with no other customer inside to pull the attention away from me 😂

lush employees are actually very nice. I really enjoyed their enthusiasm, and it's something that practically everybody needs right now due to all of this stuff going around.

My partner works at lush and hates how they are literally trained to touch customers and behave like the video. They always rant at me about how gross and uncomfortable it is to work at the company, and employees are expected to build these weird pseudo-friendships with strangers. But also keep in mind there are also weirdly touchy customers too: lots of creeps at Lush.

I loved working for Lush. It's such a good company and has such good ethics. I was actually happy to work there, and I think that was the only time I ever felt that way in retail. Maybe that happiness came across is how enthusiastic I was about customers. Was anyone else ever put on bubble making duty? Our shop was in a big mall, so I got to stand just outside the door, and make bubbles in two clear jugs with our bubble bath. Like, literally mix up bubbles and them blow them. Kids would come over and ask to play or smell the bubble bath. It was the best assignment!
