Growing up an Xmas tree was absolutely a no. When I moved to Chicago for school, my parents moved to Florida from NY (big shocker I know). I come home for holiday break and suddenly there’s a Christmas tree, a train..the whole nine yards in our living room. I was livid, I think my head did a 180! They both blamed it on each other 🤣🤣 I miss them both with all my heart, and still have a good laugh thinking about it.

I see no reason why Jews can't just decorate a tree for Chanukah if they want to. It's a tradition, and outside the Germanic countries, a very modern one! It's not like wearing a crucifix, the trees are not actually a part of Christianity, only an earlier tradition that Christians borrowed because it's so delightful. Why shouldn't you borrow it, too? In my house, my kids have a teeny, white artificial tree that they decorate for every holiday...right now it is decorated for inauguration day. They chose red, white and blue lights, stars and an ornament of Captain America 😂
@MercilessIdiot3 жыл бұрын
When i was a kid i made a crucifix for my catholic (fanatic) grandmother by using two wooden sticks glued together and a Qui-Gon Jinn action figure complete with lightsaber. She never got the joke, she just asked why jesus was holding a "satanic magic wand". Then i said "that's not a magic wand, i wanted him to hold a sword made by pure light that should represent his power over the evil Dark Side", and she accepted it. My grandfather almost choked laughing.

The funny part is: setting a tree is not even a Christian tradition. It comes from paganism actually. So Christians shouldn't be doing this either. Fun fact: (I'm from Poland btw) In Polish it's not even called 'Christmas tree', it's name is 'choinka' (you can't translate this, it's literally just a word for that tree) so it's name is not even connected to Christmas in any way. The tradition of setting that tree belongs to holiday that took place at winter solistice before christianization of Poland (and other Slavic countries).
