Carmela unleashing her inner mob boss! She “taxed” him, exactly how Tony or Carmine would “tax” their guys as punishment whenever they did something wrong. She let him know, too, with that nail, exactly what was going on - and in that last scene, by mutually *not* bringing up their grievances with the other, they agreed that, to quote Carmine Sr., “it’s settled, John.” In some ways it’s the inverse of the scene in the fifth episode of the show, when Tony tries to dunk on Carmela for letting Father Phil come over, only for her to retort by revealing that Dr. Melfi called her at the house.

Yes they have to notify the IRS at 10k but that’s why Carmela was putting 9.9 in different accounts, the IRS won’t get notified. The guy at the bank was intuitively pointing out the difference

I’m watching this show for like the 5th or 6th time, and call me dumb, but I always thought when the lady said “she doesn’t always put her teeth in” it was some kind of expression like she doesn’t put in her part or something. For the first time today it occurred to me that she literally meant she doesn’t put her teeth in her mouth when talking to people and I bursted out laughing. This show always has something to catch. Oh, and that ending scene is one of my favorite of the whole show, literally a stare down. They both know everything, but neither will bring it up. It’s so good, so tense, so much subtext.

That’s a really cool observation! You’re right it’s almost like “if he doesn’t respect my emotional needs for validation in this marriage, at the least he can respect that I do not like this one thing being done to me.” Then he can’t even see why she’s upset that he did it, AND immediately after, to make matters worse, he’s slipped up and made it obvious to her that he had been with another woman recently.
