I'm currently sat next to my dad who's on his death bed. Not long now until he passes they told me. He's only 59 and I 23, but we're both father and son as well as best friends which makes this even harder. He can't talk, but he can hear. I've played this song to him at night before I go to sleep next to him and I can tell he loves it by how relaxed he gets. Sing it live for him when he gets to you Luther! ❤ One day I'll be there to listen again with him.

"What a world for the lonely kind" (1:09) 💔 - as Luther said in interview, he wrote this about his own struggle with depression - and my goodness, you can hear it in every single word, if you listen beyond the vocal ... Gone way too soon and terribly missed, but hope you've found peace in a much better place than here - RIP sir 🦋

Proves how great a singer Luther was. His background singers were awesome and Marcus Miller not only co wrote many of Luther's songs but his bass was part of Luther's signature sound. This is a beautiful but different performance like every other from Luther. He was the consummate professional. Not a bad job by Jools who doesn't really have the feel for this type of music. Just imagine how great this would have been with Nat Adderley Jr or Bob James, Joe Sample or any of the other pianists who really feel this type of music.
@JohnPenfold13 жыл бұрын
I agree with all you say... apart from Jools not 'feeling' this type of music - this 'type' of music is soul music with a hint of blues-jazz, which I'd say he feels pretty well - just look at any of his live performances. Jools is an 'all-rounder', I'm guessing he has a feel for all types of music, and, as they say, if you learnt to play jazz, you can play anything.
@sylviamaua7452 жыл бұрын
@@JohnPenfold1 a stellar performance on piano by Jools Holland. However, if you get the chance to see videos of Nat Adderley jnr accompanying Luther, you will understand the difference he makes to Luther's performances - he was Lutger's musical director and co-wrote many of his songs.
