I LOVE those push button controls!😎The fan control actually has 4 speeds, while the ceiling fan itself has 3 speeds.

Nice video. I've been thinking about getting some of these fan switches to add to my HomeKit setup. I love my Lutron light switches. They work flawlessly and are some of the most reliable HomeKit devices I have for sure! I recently made a video showing how I mix Lutron smart switches with their regular "dumb" switches. That's another great thing about Lutron. If you don't want to spend a ton of money replacing switches across the whole house (that gets expensive!), you can mix and match their smart switches with their regular "dumb" switches and still get that consistent look. I have LOTS of 2 and 3 gang switch boxes and I wanted some of them smart but I didn't need them ALL to be smart right away. Looking forward to adding one or two of the ceiling fan switches now. Thanks for the video!

Good video. I have had the Leviton but had recently purchased the Lutron Caseta to install once some remodeling is complete. Going to be trying it this weekend. One caveat that I've read is that if you have a large house then placement is a consideration. There is a 30 ft max between the bridge and dimmer; the dimmer from the kit works as an extension of the bridge so adds another 30 feet. If your router isn't located in the middle of the house as mine isn't then you have to carefully consider where to place the kit dimmer if you also intend to add more caseta controls in other locations.

I have about 8 of these switches in my house. While I wish they looked a little more hi-tech, these are probably the best switches out there, which numerous reviews will back up. I control them either with Alexa or the remote, and they have been very stable with almost no issues. The small circle button on the remote can also be programmed to a favorite light setting, and if you have the bridge, you can easily set up many different scenes under one command.

Nice that they support HomeKit as there aren’t choices when it comes to fan control, but I think I’ll stick with my GE Z-wave switches for now. Looks like this shows the problem that many people complain about on Amazon with it really only having 2-speeds - low and high. Haven’t seen anything about them resolving the issue recently?

Not sure why you showed installing the switches when the most important part, the wiring, you sped past it. What was the point of all of that?

how about a ceiling fan light combination. I know that Luxtron has the Maestro system but those can't interact with your smart phone.
@ReyG_HKSH5 жыл бұрын
For a ceiling fan with a light, Lutron does recommend wiring the light with a separate Caseta dimmer.

14:00 I see that the old switch has both the red and black attached to the load side of the switch. I also noticed that the fan does not have lights. Typically the black is for the fan (as black is for the fan in the ceiling fan) and red for the lights (as they use blue in the ceiling fan). So it’s possible that both wires are attached to the fan’s black wire in the ceiling fan. Or only the black is and the red, hopefully, is capped.

I assume when you first set it up you just have to do the pull chain on the fan itself so that it’s at the fastest speed, and then the switch can do the slower speeds from there. Correct?

Correct.

Appreciate all your videos -- I am in the midst of converting from SmartThings to HomeKit. What Leviton switch did you use for fans previously? DH6HD-1BZ? I really don't want ANOTHER hub.
@ReyG_HKSH4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately Leviton doesn’t have a fan controller switch. For HomeKit, the only game in town is the Lutron Caseta or a dedicated HomeKit ceiling fan. Thanks for watching!

Do you have an AppleTV 4th gen (maybe 3rd) or later? If so, can you see if you can set up the switches to use the AppleTV as a hub? When my WeMo Mini originally came out, it needed a WeMo hub. But with a firmware update, an AppleTV 4th (maybe 3rd) or later was all that was needed. Heck even my iPad Air could’ve been used, since I leave it at home and never shut it off. With that said, I never had a WeMo hub. I just made the purchase, connected the WeMo mini to my iPhone and downloaded the newest firmware. Once it was done, it found the AppleTV and is now using that as a hub. So I can control my WeMo mini from anywhere, as long as it’s connected to the internet. Geo fencing works like a charm too.
@ReyG_HKSH5 жыл бұрын
The Caseta line still needs the Smart Bridge for HomeKit compatibility. I don’t believe Lutron has communicated intent to use software authentication for its devices as of this writing. An AppleTV, iPad or HomePod will also be needed if you’d like to connect these to HomeKit and access remotely. Thanks for watching!
@robertsteich73625 жыл бұрын
Rey G after a lot of research, I found out that the bridge contains the hardware for HomeKit. Where as the Lurton switches and such do not. Apparently my WeMo devices contains this hardware, but needed the software update to enable it.

Any idea if these work with Lutron's Radio RA2 Select system? RA2 Select is also HomeKit compatible but uses a different hub than Caseta (it also allows for more than 50 devices which is why I use it).
@Neubs-xv8tw5 жыл бұрын
I believe it will work, just installed a whole house with Ra2 select, it absolutely rocks.
@othercharr5 жыл бұрын
No... Caseta and Ra2 do not talk to each other. But under a unified Homekit you could manage both systems from one app.

I think home depot is like walmart, the packaging doesn't need to be intact for you to return it. You have a limited amount of time without a receipt though.

I had to look at home depot 2 or 3 times to find a ceiling fan compatible dimmer. When I first looked it was between that one and this other one(not from lutron), both ugly and both more than I was willing to spend. They have more in the aisle with the lamps and all that.

I only have two black wires and a ground coming out of[ the wall. How do I make this work with just the three wires?
@ReyG_HKSH5 жыл бұрын
For the dimmer just attach the bare copper wire to ground and either black wire to the terminals. For the fan control, a neutral wire is required. I don’t believe there is a workaround so you might want to consult an electrician.
