I was watching cheerleading competition in the late 90s (live on television), one of the girls caught an elbow in the mouth, and we could see her tooth go flying out, she just made a pain face, and kept right on with the routine without missing a step....that type of dedication is truly impressive

I remember one of my teammates broke her leg in the middle of our routine at a competition and carried on until it was finished. I myself was lucky enough to only ever break a finger and get concussions. I remember throwing up in the middle of a competition once though...I threw up as I was tumbling from overexertion😅 Our coaches always said unless you're unconscious you better not stop and push through the pain with a smile on your face

Talking about trusting your team, when my daughter was in cheer she was often used as a support for the flyers (being lifted). If someone were to intentionally not support someone out of animosity, they would be kicked off the team instantly and they would likely have a hard time getting on another team because word would spread. It takes years and tons of money to build these skills which would all be worthless in the blink of an eye.

Ahh cheerleading, brings back memories when my flyer blew her knee out as we're competing. The music stopped i was so confused then I saw my flyer crawling to the front of the mat SOBBING crying. The competition let us go again. So we had to re work our routine backstage in LITERALLY 5min & I had to learn how to base in 5min,before that I've NEVER based before ever in life & all my right side motions I now had to do on my left . *THE FUCKING PRESSURE I ENDURED!* 😂 our rival team came out & cheered us on during our redo. Good times 🥰

You should check out the junior competitive teams. You think this is impressive, but when you see tiny little girls no taller than half your size throwing those stunts and pulling double fulls, it literally makes your jaw drop! Competitive cheerleading is VERY competitive and they start them really, really young. It's just as intense as competitive gymnasts at that age, it's incredibly impressive what they can do!

Allstar/competitive cheer is year round but we only get a finished routine maybe like a month or so before competitions start. Sometimes we don’t even get music until like 1-2 weeks before. Otherwise we’re just training our skills and trying to level up for next season
@TriXJester4 жыл бұрын
Stunting requires a great deal of upper body strength. Male cheerleaders are known for providing the strength necessary to make stunt groups more successful and increase the level of skills which can be executed. An example of this stunt is a 2-2-1, where two stunt groups hold their flyers, facing in, at prep level and a third flyer is placed in the hands of those flyers and held waist high. The bases supporting this stunt are lifting the weight of approximately one and a half persons. These bases must have exceptional upper body strength. Males, in general, are known to possess a high level of upper body strength, and without male cheerleaders, it is unlikely that a team would be able to execute such skills.

Cheerleaders do their routines for the crowd more than the team. The team doesn't get to watch as much, because they are playing (or in the locker room at halftime). The team can hear the crowd, though, so the cheerleaders are trying to keep the crowd's energy up.
