Dad drove a 57 4dr wagon, brother drove a 55 4dr sadan, and best friend of mine drove a 56 2dr hard top. 57 wagon gas fill was behind the license plate. 55 4dr was door on rear fender, and 56 you turn a part in the driver side tail light to drop it to fill the gas tank. 57 Belair and Nomad had the flap open in the tail light. Fun time's trying to put gas in cars at full service stations where I worked as a kid. You and Jeff have the best content and projects together. Love the banter.

Hey Clay--- As I remember it back in my younger days, the Chevy hood and trunk emblems were as follows--Chevy emblem was 6 cylinder, chrome V was 283, gold V was "Power Pack" (4bbl) 283. And just for a matter of record, the '55 gas door was on the driver side rear quarter up just ahead of the taillight, and the '56 was behind the taillight. I'm 75 so I was driving (or pushing--I'm a Ford guy) those cars when I started driving. I had a '56 2dr. hardtop with that tricky little spring loaded rain flap you were showing on here. I had that car in '67 and when the 6 cylinder blew up in Bath, Maine I didn't have the $15 to get it towed off the highway so I let the tow company have it !!

@theguyinmaine7 ай бұрын
The sedan was used for drag racing because it was lighter. It took more metal in the roof for the hardtop. The hard top was sexier though. The straight six had the Chevy emblem, it was on the trunk like the one you have on the grill. The 265 V8 had a chrome V on the trunk and on the hood, the 283 had the gold V on the trunk and on the hood.

I grew up in the hay day of 55-57's. Everyone has always said the 57 was the prettiest, but if you look at the progression of car design in the '50's, across brands, there was a steady progression from the WWII years when cars were long & narrow, rounded & curved & didn't change for 3(?) yrs. By 50-51, the cars had shortened & widened, but were still round & curvy & plain, (what trim there was & the lights were small... carry-over from war years.) Then, as the economy grew, the cars showed it. Boxier, bigger trim & lights & a tip of the design cap to the Jet/Space Age, (fins). By 55, fins were a suggestion & chrome was minimalist. By '57 fins & chrome peaked. In '58 the fins folded over & in '59-'60 were all out, but horizontal. Myself, even though I had a '57 2 dr wagon I loved, (also had 55's & 56's), my eye has always preferred 55's. Even in the Chev pick ups. I had a '59, which was a '55 w/ dual headlights, everything else interchanges. The '55's single lights looked better, cleaner. Re: gas fillers 55 had a side flap 56 & 57 had it behind tail light Re: hardtops/sedan(posts) We preferred the sedans cause they were lighter. PS: A '57 Pontiac hood fits on a Chevy & as no 'bullets', the 'clean look' is sweet.

That is beautiful,love mid 50s Chevy's. Here in the UK,if a car wasn't originally fitted with belts,you don't have to retrofit them. Personally I probably would,I whacked my head on the windscreen when I spun on cow crap on a side road probably around 50yrs ago.

57's used to be my favorite car of that Era. Until I started watching @Street Racing Channel and saw more and more of the 55's they have. Billy picked up one of the prettiest mid 50's I have ever seen. This one runs a close second though for sure next to Alex and Dennis Taylors dnd build. Wear bars on the front pads will make squeak like that too. Drag n Drive = racing Power Tour = product placement car shows
