Binning Wolfdale CPUs (Core 2 Duo E8400-E8600) The Easy Way

On this video I bin some new Wolfdale CPUs I got recently, a few pieces of each model number as stated on the title. I show you how I speed bin these CPUs in Windows XP environment for overclocking purposes, aka select CPUs based on overclocking quality.
Overall, all of the CPUs I tested were really bad. None could do a better result than my legendary SF3D Q837A E8600, and 2 out of 3 of the E8400 chips were really horrible by requiring over 1.4v for 4.5GHz Pifast.
At the end of the video you can see how low voltage a proven E8600 only needs for 4.5GHz Pifast, 1.23v set which is around 1.22-1.23v measured. That CPU does 6.65GHz Pifast on LN2 and 6.7GHz Wprime 32.

This is awesome! I had Athlon 64 in a DFI UT4 back in the day so I never got to use these CPUs. Now I have a few bits of hardware for 775 and this is really helpful as opposed to crawling old forums from ten years ago. Thank you!

Nice samples, I just binned a few more myself and found out I got a bit ripped off today. Seems like all of my chips have been binned before and I got the rejects. Probably was not even the sellers fault, I guess someone just dropped all those CPUs off there. Best one did 4.2GHz with 1.3V (I use a little less voltage since I use an air cooler with a thermal pad for quick switching). All of the other E8400 / E8600 I received today can not even hit 4.0Ghz at that voltage. The E8600 are the worst, two only get to 3.8GHz at 1.3V.

@@zap7759 Thats sick, I wish I had one like that. I want to build a system for nostalgia LAN-parties and I'm binning for a golden sample like that. But it seems to be still random luck, the two E8600s that can not go beyond 3.8Ghz on ambient are with the rounded IHS. You never know what kind of life these chips had :(

Have you tested the lower TDP E8400/8500? They have S-Specs SLBB4 and SLBB5.

i just did 4x e8600 and 1x e8400, 1 e8600 was bad and couldn't reach 4.5ghz, the best cpu was the e8400 that could do 4.5ghz at the lowest voltage, it could also do 4.6ghz on 1.47v but it was starting to get hot so i prefer to go back down.
