In March 1967, Eric Burdon & The Animals at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey was the first rock concert I ever attended. I was just 13 years old - and I'll never forget that night. Eric was such an electrifying singer, and he still blows me away.

I second that. Too bad he didn't get the opportunity to act more- he had short roles in at least two American movies- great voice, great looks, sexy as heck too- even my mom liked him! Better than Peter Noone, Herman and of course she much preferred Eric to Mick Jagger-! Mom didn't dig him and couldn't understand how sweet, pretty, little thing like Marianne Faithfull could be so besotted! Dance on Eric, you STILL GOT IT! Namaste

Oh I agree Barbara. A little whirlwind of energy and soul. You may enjoy seeing him, if you haven't already, singing as a guest star on the Otis Redding special filmed live for ReadySteadyGo (RSG) in 1966. He does a quite brilliant version of 'Hold On I'm Coming' and he also has a blast in the spectacular finale with Otis singing 'Shake'. They are both on youtube and if you think he is beautiful on this then prepared to be blown away. Apologies if you have already checked it out, but I just like sharing the Eric love.

Anyway, the jocks shoved me around as did others, but I did NOT care! I was dressed like Eric Burdon!! And I played in a band in the bars on weekends!! Anyway, someone yelled out House Of The Rising Sun ( of course) he said," Christ! I hate this fucking song!" But played it anyway. Yep. The TV appearances- even the live ones like Ed Sullivan- were very much tamed for general audiences at home. They were bonkers live. If you haven't seen Eric singing in 1966 as a guest on the Otis Redding special of ReadySteadyGo (RSG) then check it out. He sings 'Hold on I'm coming' backed by a brilliant band that toured with Otis. He also sings with Otis on the finale 'Shake'. They are up on youtube and frankly phenomenal live television the likes of which we will never see again. Eric is about the cutest I have ever seen him look...and he smiles a lot and shows off his footwork as well. Smooth mover was Eric.

My favorite part of babysitting in the early 70s was after i put the kids to sleep, was putting on their headphones (first time thrill headphones) and listening and dancing to all of their 60s music. I didn't even care when they got home or if i got paid (50 cents an hour) as long as i got to play those fantastic songs. Such wonderful music and these people had every artist from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. I wish i had that old album collection.

My brother was much older than me and when he got married I had the use of his 60's record collection for a while. (this was in the late 70's) All the top bands...Who, Them, Kinks, beatles, Stones.) It blew my socks off. But it was The Animals records that really grabbed me and wouldn't let go. He asked for it all back after a while (rock music and a new baby don't mix) and I tried in vain to hang on to The Animals. Thought he wouldn't notice but it was his favourite too. lol Anyway, I collect vinyl now and it is fun to buy it at fleamarkets etc. So why not do the same and get a turntable if you haven't got one and start picking up albums?

@@lechatel I live in Minnesota USA, I have lived here all 60 years of my life. I love it here. I've never been to Europe, although many of my 9 siblings and Parents have been there. France was one of their favorites. They mostly traveled there in the 1970s-1980s. We were all young then and very adventurous. Our ancestors are from France and although it is a rare name here it is very popular in France. Yes I too love music and I am so grateful that we can find almost every song we want on KZbin or any music app on line. I think my all time favorite is Pink Floyd and every 60s British Band. We were so lucky to experience the best music ever written in the 60s, 70s, and 80s live. Love chatting with you. Music makes everyone just a little bit closer to each other, and it never dies.

55 years years ago. Imagine how long ago, and as they struggled for some of the attention lavished upon the Beatles.

I feel like this is one of the few videos that shows how energetic the Animals could be live. I suspect they (and other groups, I'm sure) had to tone it down for most TV appearances.

Plus they were lipsynching on most tv shows unlike this live performance.

@@richardleonard4281 True, but they sung live on the Ed Sullivan show six times in alland they are worth checking out...especially I'm Crying and HOTRS and a really extraordinarily vocally brilliant version of 'Worksong'. However, of course, Ed Sullivan did make sure things were kept in bounds and didn't get really wild. (mustn't shock the folks at home. lol)
