To refuse the jab is strange considering their profession. Yes, for all, it is a choice and a risk, vaccination for the community is a risk to the self. Those ICU staff who refused had a choice. Now, because they left, many proceedures are on backlist, including mine, which I've been waiting for a year now. If the world was not vaccinated we would have so many in ICU, your grocer, your rubbish removal guy, your kids teacher, your gp, etc etc all taking up beds. Some people are just selfish and anti-authoritarian, following some idiotic staffroom hysteria. 250 hospital staff members have quit in my home town. Selfish.

So glad that the comments have been turned on so that common sense has a chance to be voiced. Jacinda didn't answer any of the simple questions directly because she knows how much of a mess things are in. Luxon was able to point out very clearly how inept this government has been at giving New Zealand a pathway back to normality. I am vaccinated, but find it appalling how people that have decided not to have been treated. All the talk of planning for medical staffing increases and being kind and yet blocked them entry in the MIQ system, and has forced thousands to resign because they (medical professionals I must say before you comment) don't wish to be injected with something out of good conscience. Not to mention the debt we are in as a nation - millions and millions just given away without a thought of how much this will cripple future generations. Thank goodness we will have a new leader who knows how to lead us out of it.

So if Jacinda's whole argument is that it is more important to keep people in lockdown in order to prevent strain on ICU beds, so as a result, she isn't putting much emphasis on the current state of ICU beds in the country, which is a disaster as highlighted by National. In that case, why is Auckland now not in a more strict lockdown than in August given there are more cases now, which increases the risk of a need for ICU???
@davidward5206
@davidward5206 3 жыл бұрын
The reason why Jacinda has successfully managed to maintain popularity during this response is that whenever she is challenged with an alternative she refers to (just as she has done here) emotionally persuading the audience that she is doing the right thing because she is "saving lives." If we apply her logic and policies to our livelihoods, it is best, in that case, to lock our doors and never leave our homes forever because by doing that we will never catch covid and put a strain on our health system.

Today, the comments were not turned off and I will ask a question that has been tormenting me for a long time. And what is wrong with medicine in our country? Maybe there's something wrong with the COVID statistics? The numbers look strange. It looks like our people are only getting infected, but no one is recovering. If you look at the numbers before the new case appeared, we had a total of 2,500 recovered. Starting with the new Delta virus case, only 3,385 people recovered in 15 weeks, but 6,402 active cases. How is this possible? Are there half as many people recovering? If there are 200 new cases on the day, then in 2 weeks these 200 cases should recover? And every day we have an average figure of 150, and recover +2, +5, +50. Can someone explain what is happening with COVID in our country?
@DaveParkerNZ66
@DaveParkerNZ66 3 жыл бұрын
It is because the active cases are at one point in time. The new cases and recovered cases are coming into and out of the active cases all the time. So if there are 1000 active cases and then 50 new cases, but 50 people recover then there are still 1000 active cases.
@svetlanadavis2793
@svetlanadavis2793 3 жыл бұрын
@@DaveParkerNZ66 Well, if we take the average number of new cases of 200 people every day, then we get 1,400 people per week. And in 2 weeks 2800. And we have 6,400 active cases. It turns out that people do not recover after 2 weeks. People don't recover even after 4 weeks. Is that right?
@richardv9648

Yes, I did notice that. New Zealand's numbers are not following the same pattern as Singapore or Israel both of these countries were 90 percent vaccinated. Could it be that our diet plan and general health is better than these two countries?
@svetlanadavis2793
@svetlanadavis2793 3 жыл бұрын
@@richardv9648 I do not think so. The number of people in critical condition is quite strange. At first there was a number 5 and did not change for a long time, although sometimes they said 8 or 3, but the number was consistently 5. Then at once this number jumped to 64 and did not change again. Now this number is 48 . What do you say to that? Is it possible to believe anything at all ?
@DaveParkerNZ66
@DaveParkerNZ66 3 жыл бұрын
Svetlana Davis The Ministry of Health define recovered as no longer infectious. It is not defined by whether they have longer term symptoms. They say that people are infectious for 15 days, but sometimes longer. So the number of active cases are all at various stages in that 15 day infectious period. In your two week period some would have been coming out of the infectious period. It gets quite complicated when you consider that there are varying number of people coming into the active stage. This is why they employ people who can make models of processes like this. Do you doubt the truth of the figures?

Lockdowns are how we eliminated Covid-19 June and September last year. Feb this year. All without vaccination. Delta came along, thanks Australia, when we were ramping up the vaccine program. Delta was a game changer, it was too transmissible to stamp out. Although it was eliminated in Wellington quickly, if fact it still isn't in Wellington although it will be soon. But Lockdowns still suppressed the spread while we vaccinated. At the same time we have been buying retrovirals and using monoclonal treatments. Lockdowns bought is time. Europe has shown that vaccines alone was never going to be enough. Because of our success has given us time and see what works and what doesn't. I agree, the US is no shining light. MY disappointment with NZ political parties is there is nothing for middle class blue collar workers, the people actually doing the work. Adern was very clear. They started upskilling nurses early in 2020. It takes a number of years to train qualified nurses to be ICU. They have increased ICU beds by 120. With a surge capacity of another 200. Although we only just specifically set aside MIQ for medical staff I know anecdotally of a half dozen nurses mostly from America. 2 couple of doctors coming in already. They get skill shortage visas. Maybe media could confirm how many nurses came to NZ already. So far ICUs are far from overloaded. This attack from some of the comments critical of the government is laughable because it's an admission of government success. So far only about 11 ? Was the most in ICU.

Plenty of migrants wanting to nurse in NZ, why not give them a fast track to migrancy in exchange for helping us with this shortage? Immigration has been a joke. Plenty of qualified people already in the country in limbo with regards to their immigration status.

let me be very honest. NZ was very lucky that it didn't have major community out break like the rest of the world. There is no way the system would have coped. Even today she is talking about just 400 ICU beds. It is simply not enough for what is coming our way next year.
