@xethified As far as I know, no. People aren’t begging for compound eyes Luxray, I just mentioned the ability as it fits alongside Luxray’s design and Dex entries of having X-ray vision. Okay a few things about this video from a semi competitive player who uses luxray. 1: Luxray has a good electric stab option in super cell slam in gen 9 so it does have good stab options (it's like high jump kick in being a high reward medium risk option) 2: The move sets you showed at the 2:00 mark are very out dated especially for the current meta 3: The guts ability is better in singles for luxray than intimidate 4: Your right luxray should not be a dark type it is literally the LIGHT pokemon 5: I like the improvements you made to it to it's stats I would have personally buffed it's speed a tad more though to 95 6: I can see tough claws over rivalry any day lol 7:Nuzzle can see some cool niche use with intimidate if you want a speedy pera pokemon 8: Sadly I don't think gamefreak has the balls to give luxray e speed even though they should and, fake out can also be a cool option 9: My favorite set to use is Luxo (Luxray) @ Flame Orb Ability: Guts Tera Type: Electric EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Jolly Nature - Facade - Trailblaze - Play Rough - Supercell Slam You can try out different tera types like grass to resist ground, normal to boost your facades, fairy is just a good type and you get stab play rough, I have it as electric rn but I like to play around with it. T-blaze is a good way to boost up your speed then you can use super cell slam, p-rough or facade for good damaging moves. Luxray is an amazing pokemon held back by its meh speed tier in a world of fast pace attackers being prominent in the meta. So how would I buff it? if nothing else like I said before I would raise it's speed at least 95 however I would buff it more if I could but 95 is reasonable with t blaze. 95 base speed on a lvl 100 Mon with 1 t blaze+speed nature is 475 speed. You will outspeed most of the meta that's not booster speed I valiant or something stupid fast like that. But overall a great video my dude you will def hit 1k soon!

I'm personally very split on the Dark type argument. I see some of the points you make but Dark types can also be intimidating/threatening designs, or even just 'mysterious' ones. Absol doesn't scream Dark type to me but it is one, despite it actively warning people of coming disaster and being mistaken for being a doom-bringer. Shiftry's dex entries talk about it being intimidating/horrific but in actuality it's a forest guardian. So I can see, and personally lean towards, Luxray being a Dark type because of it's menacing design that incorporates a darker color scheme. It also adds a bit of contrast to the design with that typing. Being an Electric Dark type would make it represent the light and the darkness it both brings and hides in. I'm more of a fence sitter on this though, again, leaning towards it being a dark type. More over, it'd be nice to have a wider variety of duel typed Electric Pokemon.

Loved the rant about the dark type, really the only thing I can possibly think of adding is giving them hone claws would fit well with the new abilities and while not the best move would probably be niche pick if you wanna run a low accuracy move

Luxray getting all these new moves turning it into a “Guess my Coverage move wrong and something’s dying” pokemon is wild and I’m all for it. One thing I’d do differently is go all in with making lux a physical attack and gut its SpA to make it 75 to put into speed, maybe like 108 speed. A Pokémon I’d love to see get a buff is Ampharos because it’s sort of like the Luxray of Johto in that they’re both 3 stage electrics that evolve via level up and act as a “4th starter”

@@tangerinepaint3643 I do see how Luxray could benefit from a Fast speed stat of 108, but there are way too many fast Pokémon that just outspeed and one-shot and the goal is to try and give balanced buffs to Pokémon not make them absurdly broken. I caught a full odds shiny Luxray in my Legends Arceus playthrough recently, and I couldn't even use it on that playthrough because it SUCKS and I already had Electivire that has actually insane stats for when I got it.

Another absolutely fantastic video! These buffs definitely feel like they'd give Luxray the power bump he deserves! I personally would've leaned more into the physical attacker role, but I can appreciate the effort to keep the mixed attacker identity intact! I like the ability choices, as well as the honorable mentions to Galvanize and Compound Eyes since I feel like those could fit as well. Tbh in an ideal world, I'd probably buff Keen Eye to grant a 10% accuracy buff to moves on top of its current effects as a sort of middle ground fix. No real notes for competitively relevant moves, especially since someone else already pointed out that Luxray doesn't already get access to Hone Claws, which I assumed he did. Again, excellent video, and I genuinely appreciate you taking my request! I'll be looking forward to what's next!

I remember in almost all of my Sinnoh playthroughs using Luxray, it was because it had Intimidate, and that’s about the only reason why I use one consistently. And for some reason when I was younger I kept either Spark or Thunder Fang instead of giving it Thunder. It’s like a more rounded Gyarados except instead of being a huge payoff for being terrible at first, it just started off as good or solid until late game where it was just a little mid.

Yeah, Luxray was just one of those popular pokemon I could never get myself to consistently use in a playthrough because its stabs were so weak and it's coverage (for an in-game playthrough) was lackluster. I still stand by Raichu being the best Electric type in Sinnoh as access to Nasty Plot (as a Pichu) and Grass Knot and Focus Blast as coverage, Raichu and it's nasty plot boosted Thunderbolts shred through most of Sinnoh that it's insane

@@SPARKRIZZLE I feel the same way. When I first got into playing Diamond. I had a Luxray on my team since everyone said it was a great member. But the more I used Luxray, the less it impressed me. It had no good physical stab moves, lackluster coverage and is way slower than what it’s designed entailed. After some time I learned about Pichu learning Nasty Plot, and since then Raichu has always been my Go-to electric type in Sinnoh. I would argue it IS the best electric type to use in Diamond, Pearl or Platinum

I do not understand the Dark-Type argument because I mean look at Absol, look at H-Arcanine etc., those are the good guys that fight in a dark type however. So imo the Dark type is not inherently linked to being a rude guy

Personally disagree with giving it volt tackle, as I think that move should be Pika family only. However, I understand of course since electric physical moves are garbage, so there’s no other easy answer. Headlong rush is also not thematically consistent imo. Only extremely heavy and beefy pokes get that move. I would suggest high horsepower as a replacement (slugma can learn this move). Last thing I would give it is sucker punch or at least quick attack.

@@awesomeraichu59342 Ah well speaking of abilities, would you consider ability buffs/changes videos, I’ve actually been making Pokémon buffs for fun as well but it’s lead to me realizing how bad some abilities really are and how many are just copy and pasted from others (look at Delibird for the greatest victim of this), but I’ve just had trouble keeping track of making them balanced and not having one encroach on another with its buffs, so I’d be glad to see someone else’s perspective on the subject

@@awesomeraichu59342 For staters, Vital Spirit, this is an example of an ability that does exactly the same thing as another being Insomnia, and when I mean the same I don’t mean like how static and flame body can cause status conditions, because those two are counterparts which I think everyone is fine with, but Vital Spirit is one of many abilities with just a name change, and to make matters worse Delibird gets both. So personally I’d say it needs a complete rework to make sure it doesn’t encroach on another as well as making it viable on its own

Luxray gets dark type because it's a ruthless hunter that cannot be escaped from. But really it's the Gen1 issue where many gen 1 mons learn random ass moves as a secondary implied type. It's mostly two halfs making a whole with nothing else to work with. Overly efficient hunters are scary and it always sees you, it's a horror movie level thing.
