Maractus is a Terrible Pokemon. So I Buffed It

Maractus is so cute, it's a shame such a great design got dealt terrible stats. These are great buffs. I think Maractus would benefit from a signature move. An attack that sets a layer of spikes like Ceaseless Edge would be cool. Maybe called "Thorn Dance", as it dances its spines fall onto the ground.

ive used maractus in gen 9 natdex monotype and pretty much the only thing it could do was a sub seed set and to be fair it was alright and was able to do stuff against """""somethings"""" but still it basically had no ability since setting up sun on a grass type team is basically a death sentence in a bad matchup and being a grass type team means theres not going to be a single water type move coming your way

For abilities I think dancer would work even better than roughskin, giving itz dex entries and even signature dance move, or victory dance would go a long way. With strong ability you may not always even need strong stats to support that, and not all pokemon need to be viable in competitive, even a one nieche would give many pokemon some interest going for them.

Definitely some interesting buffs, I quite like these ideas! Though, one thing that always bothered me from a playthrough perspective is that wild Maractus can only be found in areas with perpetual sandstorms, and yet it has no way to avoid taking sandstorm damage. Its homes are literally deadly for the poor thing! The Cacnea line had abilities that granted them immunity to the damage, so maybe Maractus should get something similar like Sand Rush as an alternative to Chlorophyll? Or maybe a unique ability that functions similarly to Glimmora's where hitting it drops a layer of regular Spikes and lets it avoid sandstorm damage? The only other way would be to add a secondary type, but none of the sandstorm immune types really make sense aside from maybe Ground, but even then it doesn't really make much sense, at least in my opinion. Still, great video!

Maractus already has knock off btw. I personally like it as a chlorophyll sweeper because it gets weather ball. Can set up with growth. I agree it should get scorching sands and earth power. But as a sweeper it is probably outclassed by Scovillain lol

And its more sad when you realize Scovillian is outclassed by Ogrepon. Poor thing was the first Fire/Grass type only yo be immediately ditched after Ogrepon showed up with her funny mask

The actual reason why Maractus, and several other Pokemon, don't have Rough Skin as an ability is because the English localization lied to you. In JP, Rough Skin's name is "Samehada," which translates roughly (ba dum tss) to "Shark Skin." This is why only shark, or shark-like, Pokemon get Rough Skin (so apparantly, Druddigon has shark-like skin in lore). So instead, let's make a _new_ Ability, maybe call it "Cactus Skin" or "Cactus Spikes," that does the same thing as Rough Skin, but also damages the opponent when the Pokemon initiates contact. And also slap on sand immunity, because cactus. Maractus would get it over Chlorophyll (why the cactus Pokemon that lives in a route with a perpetual sandstorm doesn't have a single Ability giving it sand immunity and instead has a sun-based Ability is beyond me), and Cacturne would also gain access to it, replacing Sand Veil. Then let's also create a new move, called "Thorn Shot," and make it an 80 bp Grass-type special attack that lays down a layer of Spikes when it hits. Its distribution? Maractus and the Cacnea line. And for good measure, let's take Needle Arm, bump it up to 65 bp, and give it an additional effect to - you guessed it - lay down a layer of Spikes when it hits. Chesnaught also has access to the move? Good, it deserves the buff.

Really? I did not know that about Rough Skin, the more you know I guess? Also the Cactus Skin/Spikes ability you made is just a phenominal ability for Maractus (and Chesnaught to an extent)
