I have a discovery 2018 HSE Luxury. It’s a beautiful truck and feels powerful. That being said, my wife and I are getting to get rid of it and switching it out for a suburban or even Sienna XSE. 3rd row is very small and my younger children aren’t getting any smaller, I’ve had various issues varying from water dripping from the front windshield to the steering locking up. Lastly and more specific to me, the nearest Land Rover dealer is terrible.

"[T]he nearest Land Rover dealer is terrible." That seems to be very common. They are too used to catering to the super rich. In an ideal world run by logic, Land Rover should not even exist. Most of the people (outside of the super rich) drive them for love of these quirky, illogical vehicles.

The asymmetrical thing in the rear is kinda a throwback to the Discovery 1 and 2. Those had that setup because the spare tyre was mounted on the tailgate, so a part of the rear glass had to be redesigned to allow for better visibility. However the LR3 and LR4 moved the spare tyre to the bottom of the car, and did not need that design but kept them anyway.

If only Volkswagen still sold the Touareg. It was the perfect non land Rover, European option that gave you great ride and handling, in addition to respectable off road performance and amazing towing of 7200lbs, no matter what engine you chose. The new ones over in Europe would certainly kill the newest offerings from Land Rover and Jeep if they ever made their way back to our shores. Here's to hoping 🥺.

Why Toyota doesn’t make a competition for Dicso/Defender? Something capable and square in an unibody structure
@huanronghu4432
@huanronghu4432 8 ай бұрын
They don't need a unibody structure because people would rather have a body on frame. and with the new redesigned Lexus GX550 (luxury version of the land cruiser prado), it can now tow a max of 8000 pounds with its detuned twin turbo v6 (up from 6500 from the v8 GX460) from the LX and it always had 3 row of seats (now u can choose to delete them in some trims)
@valdius85
@valdius85 8 ай бұрын
@@huanronghu4432 A unibody of this size would offer much more space inside and better fuel efficiency. I do not hate on BOF from Toyota, they are legends. I just don't understand that there are no unibody off-roaders from Toyota.
@huanronghu4432
@huanronghu4432 8 ай бұрын
@@valdius85 mmm judging by the legroom of the "unibody" defender and the discovery, its basically similar to the lexus gx. so even if toyota were to make a unibody off roader( such as maybe the compact cruiser but rumors have it that that may be BOF afterall), it would not be much more spacious, if at all, for both leg and headroom. if you are frequently carrying a third passenger, then okay yeah the middle seat in a unibody will likely be more spacious due to the hump being almost completely flat
@valdius85
@valdius85 8 ай бұрын
@@huanronghu4432 The trunk volume is much greater in unibody. Fuel efficiency as well. More people care about these two than towing capacity. So there is a need in the market for a unibody off-roader for overloading.

LR keeps rebranding their models. Current Defender should be a new gen Discovery. Disco Sport is a Freelander. No idea what is the current Disco, since the previous one was boxy and the new one looses that styling. It is weird strategy. Just add a new model, it is fine to have two vehicles of similar size that target different customers. There is a space in a market for a new body on frame, decent unibody AWD and luxurious SUV. Nothing wrong with all of them. Generally speaking I’d say someone who cares about low speed transfer case would appreciate more practical boxy design and that customer would also describe luxury on a different way. I am that kind of customer. I do t care about screens everywhere but would love to have cooled seats in my next vehicle. LR styling is amazing and I wished they reach out to people who would ordinary look for Land Cruiser.

If you are not an off-roader, this is a total waste of your money; you are spending coin for things you'll never use. For road use only, a $53K Buick Enclave Avenir utterly destroys this in every way (or get the Traverse High Country 4WD and save $3K). Those can tow 5.000lb and if you really need to tow 8,000lb, you 'aint buying any of these anyway.

The cargo hold is a joke. The only way to carry people and stuff is to sacrifice one one split in the 3rd row. While I understand LR's philosophy regarding passenger comfort, it shouldn't come at the expense of basically all cargo or making an already tall vehicle even taller by attaching a cargo carrier on top. I don't even think you could fit a stroller behind the 3rd row!
@markmiller3279
@markmiller3279 Жыл бұрын

That's your choice to make. We sacrificed the space in the rear for being able to sit adults in the rear. The 3rd row is not child-sized pretend seats. Our thinking was if we are carrying 7 people outside of the city we aren't going to have enough space with anything on the market. The 3rd row has a higher stadium seating config so it doesn't feel claustrophobic. Each will make their own compromises

"More potent" because... Defender styling? The bigger Disco (not the Disco Sport) actually makes more sense for most people around town: same basic platform, except for approach and departure angles off-road capability is similar, better MPG as it's less blocky, more flat cargo space (130 7-seater floor has a huge bump), higher-end interior and seating more akin to FFRR and RRS, more practical lift gate vs narrow side opening gate. And it's cheaper.

Alex has stated many times that he does not rate or care much about reliability ratings. This is why he did not even bother comparing this vehicle to the GX460, an SUV that, while a bit outdated, can last way over 100k miles and for years and years, with only regular maintenance. Instead, we’ll hear loads about the Volvo XC90 or Jeep products, which are also better bad reliability-wise.

Because if you lease it then you don’t have to worry about reliability. Free maintenance is included, and if you have problems they’re going to just give you another Range Rover to drive and put miles on and beat on rather than your own lease…Have leased several BMW’s, no major issues but probably 5 weeks in Loaner cars over each 36 months lease. Have had 3 Jaguars, most recent was 2013 XJ, pretty damn reliable up to 130k miles, but the newer JLR’s have more issues..
