I needed to hear this today. I am embarking on a new life at 51 after finding out at Christmas my 31 year marriage is ending. I made the common mistake of working toward his career goals (of course for the sake of the family) and now I find myself starting where I left off many many years ago. No degree, but just enrolled in college. Gained a tremendous amount of weight throughout the years so made an appointment with a bariatric specialist for next week. I'm terrified but I have to do this. Thank you for letting get lose in your videos for a short time. I too will concentrate on living a good life.

Especially with dachshunds. They are HIGH maintenance dogs. They aren't very fast and just need a short walk a day, plus you need to teach them never to jump or run up and down stairs. Otherwise you end up with a dog with arthritis, pain and paralysis. I wish more people knew about this 😔

In Ireland we traditionally leave our Christmas decorations up until the sixth of January, which is known as Little Christmas elsewhere but also as Nollaig na mBan (Women's Christmas) in Ireland. It's a day where the gender roles in the house are reversed, and the women in non Covid times would go visiting with friends. It is also the day where the last of the Christmas cake is usually eaten (in our house we have to set it aside well before the New Year to ensure that it lasts to then!). If there are any Christmas lovers reading this, or people who spend Christmas ensuring everyone else has a good time, I highly recommend doing this next year. It brightens up January, and acknowledges those that put so much into Christmas for everyone else

My focus this year is mental health: I get into a really low mood every month around my period time so my goal is to every week research some self-help resources and tips that I will then try to apply during that low mood time and just try to figure out what works. I also have social anxiety so my goal is to once a month do something that scares me, I was advised by my therapist that such immersion therapy can work if you take it in small steps so I really want to focus on actually doing that because with social anxiety it's very easy to fall into a pattern of avoiding anything that's scary. And lastly, my partner and I found that we often have deep conversations that we find very insightful but we never write it down or think of it again so it's our goal this year to keep a Discoveries Journal where we would just write everything down. I wish you the best of luck with your goals Lydia and may we all have a better year this year!!

I am not normally commenting on other people’s videos or giving advice on health issues. This is one time only. I just wonder if you ever heard of breast implant illness and the symptoms that some women experience having implants? Since you seem a very healthy person and taking care of your body, it seems that you fit the profile of BII. I wanted (and still want sometimes) to have them, but as a chemist, I understand that the chemistry within the implants and then the biological processes in our bodies might not go hand in hand for everyone. There is a very active group on FB, with some very interesting stories. Worth reading some. Keep healthy!

Lydia your vlogs are just a dose of happiness added to my life ! I’ve been watching you many years before you and Ali were engaged .. ! unfortunately 2020 was a nightmare for me .. I was hospitalized at the ICU 6 days after having my first baby.. I get extremely emotional when I remember those days..postpartum preeclampsia is no joke ! it’s a terrifying experience that led me to develop major depression and severe anxiety & being on antidepressants until this moment..my goal for 2021 is to be mentally happy .. reduce my anxiety that sometimes stop me from breathing and getting anxiety headaches .. drinking chamomile tea does wonders for my anxiety as well as sleeping and here’s a big tip : spraying Neom ( perfect nights sleep pillow mist ) has literally changed my life ! I spray it on my pillow, close my eyes and in about 20 min I just fall asleep ! give it a try Xx

Oh! you have had a rotten time of it Mademoiselle R.... I had eclampsia fits when I had my last baby, so I totally understand just how terrifying it was for you. I had to have an emergency caesarian and then haemorrhaged afterwards as well. It’s certainly not surprising that it plunged you into severe depression and major anxiety, it did the same for me. But you sound really focused on getting better and pushing through and how lovely that you reached out to the Lovely Lydia with the Neom spray advice. I so admire that, you sound like a really strong and lovely person. My ‘baby’ is shortly to be having his 33 birthday this year, I marvel each time at how so very lucky we were to both survive! He is such a wonderful kind and generous gentle man and a father to his own two boys now. Enjoy every second of all your moments with your baby, you so deserve to be happy. X sending love.

Lydia for your headaches to get better, please please please consider starting to drink warm water first thing in the morning while sitting down. (Tons of info on the internet about how that helps!) Also, you may consider avoiding coffee on empty stomach first thing in the morning for better long term health. A tongue cleaner (stainless steel or copper) helps with getting rid of toxins (Ayurveda related). And when you have 5 mins free time do watch Radhi Devlukia's KZbin video called My 5AM(ish) Mindful Morning Routine for ways to start healthy! I wish you lots of happiness and good health!

Dear Lydia, thank you so much for your vulnerability about your anxiety. I also have experienced the same in 2020 as it was the year I got married and COVID really gave us a hard time. Thank you for being so open about your struggles, it made me feel closer to you, even though I have been following you for years. Let me encourage you by saying that the past year, during my anxiety, your channel was one of the places I would go and retreat and just relax for a few minutes. So do know that even in the midst of your difficulties you were powerful and made a difference in someone's life. Thank you again, have a great 2021. Love, Irene

As with children, you can never think of everything for furry family members. Love him, discipline him so he has boundaries and let him shine. You are an animal lover so of course you will love him and will look after his needs. Things may go awry, it is part of the course. You will learn all about him, his personality will develop as time goes on and everyone will mesh together in no time. Lucky you. Animals bring magic to a household.

For me that means making more art, reading more books, taking more walks or hikes, traveling when it is possible, spending time with animals, writing when inspiration strikes, cooking and baking for the people I love, and doing yoga and stretching daily. I also want to try new things like taking my running outside instead of relying on the treadmill, journal, volunteer somewhere new, or use DuoLingo to start learning a new language (I’m thinking Spanish, Italian, Greek, or Arabic). And lastly, I want to be a dedicated student for my last semester in university before I pursue my master’s.

For me, a shortness of breath seems to occur out of nowhere and has had a negative impact on my mental well-being and sleep. I hope you're not suffering too much with this - it makes me so sad.

Such a nice video as always ❤ I think you need to put down "Do whatever I feel like" more often in your planner 😁. Also, that clock would stress me out totally. My best tip is to set timings for when to check your e-mail. I do it twice or three times a day, and I turn of all notifications. That really helped me be more productive and less stressed. I would always find myself get interrupted and to get back to what I did was always a little bit difficult. This actually saved me a lot of time. 😀🙏 Can't wait for your new furry baby to arrive 🥰😍🥰

Hey Lydia! I’m only a medstudent so obviously I can’t give solid medical advice but concerning your sudden but regular headaches I wanted to recommend looking into your teeth as the cause. If I remember correctly you started invisiline (the braces?) last year and that can very well be a cause for headaches bc your bite might have changed a bit. Just a thought :) hope you’ll get better soon! Stay healthy!

I hope this year is wonderful for you and Ali! I loved hearing about how you're approaching your goals. As someone who began suffering from headaches a few years ago myself, I am going to make a suggestion. While you are getting checked out for possible health issues which are very important to rule out, try giving up coffee. I was a lifelong coffee drinker and caffeine never bothered me, but I decided to try quitting for a month as an experiment. The first 2 weeks, I felt like absolute crap, but once I got past that, the almost daily headaches were miraculously gone. It's been 14 months since I've had regular coffee and I don’t miss it. After the first 45 days or so when I was sure the coffee had really been the problem, I started looking for some good decaf espressso so I could enjoy my lattes and cappuccinos. I love the taste and experience of drinking coffee so it was never about the caffeine kick for me. I do still drink other beverages that have some caffeine like tea, matcha, and some soda, but they have much less and don’t seem to cause me any headaches like coffee did.

Thank you for sharing, Lydia. Can’t help thinking that the headaces you are talking about, is coming from you putting too much pressure on yourself and maybe not following your natural rythm when it comes to sleep. Good sleep is extremely important for one’s mental health and energy. Are you sure waking up at fiva o’clock in the morning is a good idea for you? I am all for structure and focus, but try to make sure that you get the right balance between what you think HAS to be done and what you ENJOY doing including sleep and rest, structure and work, and fun and enjoyable things. Hi Lydia, I know how you feel. Anxiety is the worse. It controls the mind soooo much. You lose control over things that you need under control. I’m the type of person that needs structure and the pandemic messed that up. There’s no structure and sometimes things happen unexpectedly which is the worse. It throws of my day and plans. Losing that control increases my anxiety. I used to focus on the littlest pain in my body and my mind would actually make the pain worse. I had a frozen shoulder and tmj. Those were my pain areas. It was the worst. So I totally understand when u say u have pain. Please make sure to eat enough. That would also increase my anxiety if I was hungry. Lydia you are not alone and there are plenty people like you. I’ll keep posting. Love your vlogs.

Hi Lydia-hope your renewed sense of planning and journaling keeps going strong. As you said there are so many benefits from actually writing down small achievements and your day to day activities I don’t wish to sound like a therapist but, a lot of the ‘symptoms’ you are describing are markers for reactive depression with associated anxiety disorder. You mention that last year was really bad for feeling anxious but it sounds like this issue is still unresolved as the headaches and disordered sleep pattern are signs it’s still bubbling under the surface. Finding a really good therapist would make your symptoms far less difficult to manage. In the meantime I’m sure little Porter will provide his own kind of therapy-can’t wait to see him ☺️

Hi Lydia I’m a new subscriber love all your vlogs in regards to fashion, beauty, life style & hair. I been trying a new hair preservation style when I wear my hair straightened/ flat ironed. I wrap my hair at night with a silk scarf. Here in Boston,Ma we call it a “wrap” or wrap set. New Yorkers call it a “Dubbie” it’s all the same concept. I saw in previous videos where you vlogged about heat damage this has been a LIFE SAVER for my hair when worn in a straighted style. I tried it out it’s very simple. It’s preserve my flat iron style for 1-2weeks with no additional heat needed .....There are plenty of DIY videos available on KZbin that’ll you can follow. I hope you read this ! Masseuse here 🙋‍♀️Obviously still listen to the advice of your doctor...BUT consistent headaches can be related to anxiety, neck tension or eye strain. (your arm/shoulder thing could be linked too!) So meditation, yoga & journalling will help, but adding some neck stretching or trigger point therapy with a tennis ball would great to release the muscles of your neck too! - just thought I'd throw that in there to see you through until your doc appointment 😊 I love this kinda content btw, I love hearing how other people are growing and improving it's so inspiring! My focuses are quite similar to yours too: structure, devotion/discipline around my fitness & really creating the life I want by design ❤️

Hey Lydia, so pleased you're so positively gearing up for 2021 and are so organised with it. Love your plan for setting goals. For the first time in my life (I'm 41) I'm determined to focus on me this year, and importantly not feel guilty about it. Tricky with a husband, 3 young children and working full time. I lost my darling mum last January (not covid related), just a few weeks after my husband was in a bad motorbike accident and I started a new job. It was chaos and emotionally draining. Focussing on positive steps to take control - This year I have ordered a wellness journal that I am planning on filling in most evenings, I am starting to see a therapist fortnightly to help me work through a couple of things (and I NEVER thought I would ever see a therapist in my life!), earlier nights, earlier mornings, drinking a lot more water and trying to eat healthier and exercise more (might even try yoga!). Also will work on a more positive attitude in general (I used to be such a positive thinker). If we don't look after ourselves how can we be expected to look after others. Lots of love to everyone that struggled last year, but dig deep and do what you can to take control in 2021 xxx (Crikey, apologies for the essay!!)
