I don't understand why people still judge women about their choice of having or not having babies. It is 2020!!! Women are not only reproductive, they are so much more!!! It is our choice if we will have children or when we will have children. Why doesn't anyone judge a man for not having children???? Lydia baby, just do you!!!

IMO, never assume anyone wants children. Also, some people struggle with fertility and may not want to share all of it with everyone. My aunt told me that in the 1970’s she was asked constantly after she got married about why there were no children. In private she suffered multiple miscarriages and was grieving over and over. Then there are those that choose not to. I just turned 50 and never had the urge or desire. Had a best friend who was married 16 years and woke up one day at 39 with baby fever and had one child at 40 (not spoiled btw). We do have finite resources on this planet too. Having huge families is arguably not sustainable. In the US we also do not have great social services and women get sandwiched caring for elderly parents and children. Caregiving can be amazingly draining with/without some of the rewards.

I'm going through the infertility thing and have had 3 miscarriages so far, I've tried everything so when people tell me 'oh you've had too much fun already, it's time for having kids and becoming responsible' I feel like punching them right in the face 🙂 also are you considered responsible only when you've had raised kids?

This was just the video I needed to watch this evening. I've found myself feeling a bit sad in my singleness lately, with the temptation to settle for second best. When I see how Ali looks at you and how much love, respect, commitment, loyalty and laughter you share I just know its worth holding out until the right person comes along - someone who treats me no less than the queen that Ali treats Lydia like!

I have one child and that’s enough for me... I never realised it was seen as a negative thing, and was totally surprised at other peoples negative reactions to it.. especially when he started school.. other parents would question my choice telling me to have more because he’ll be lonely.. their guilt trips never affected me though and I am still happy with my choice.. my son is loved, not lonely and now a well adjusted teenager... so you do you Lydia!! whatever makes you happy🤗... raising kids is tough, especially these days..different for everyone and peoples choices should be respected.

The part about Ali being a social chameleon - in Psychology they call this "mirroring" and it's a sign of empathy :) I used to call myself a social chameleon based on that habit too, and learned that there's a term for it already, and it's a good thing! It helps those you socialize with to feel heard and understood.

Awwwwww! Love you two. I once heard a quote about being a parent that is so accurate. It says, “To have a child is to forever have your heart walking around outside of your body”. Children are wonderful and rewarding but to become a parent is a very serious consideration. I’m so glad you two are weighing your decisions.

As an only child myself, now in my 50’s, daughter of an only child (my mother) and having also only one 20 year old daughter, I somehow now miss having a brother or a sister and regret not having another child. It’s not a matter of being spoiled or not, but rather a matter of being alone, as years go by and parents and grandparents are no longer with us. Like you, dear Lydia, I was never very eager of having children and that was the reason we have had our child after ten years of marriage with 35. Of course it is not easy at all to raise a child, especially after having a happy and full childless married life for ten years, but our daughter is the biggest blessing in our lives. Now I worry, that as years go by, she is going to be left alone in this world with no siblings to turn to. You and Ali are very lucky to have found each other 💕and I am sure that you would make wonderful parents, whenever you feel ready.
@msmiami212
@msmiami212 4 жыл бұрын
Please don’t pass these fears down to your child. Why would she be left alone in the world when she will presumably have friends who have gone through the same thing, cousins, aunts, uncles, a partner and their entire extended family to lean on in those times? It’s important not to unduly romanticise and put sibling relationships on a pedestal cause you’re an only child. The grass isn’t necessarily greener and the sibling relationship settles into something like an ordinary (or if lucky) close friendship as you age anyway. There’s no guarantee of a lifelong bond or support. Focus on forging closer bonds with those you know and building a strong network around you. I say you choose your family anyway.

Having children is a huge decision and they do change your life - they’re amazing but your life and your relationship with your partner changes - more so the focus is all on the child so you have to make a conscious effort to make time for each other and the person you we’re before becoming ‘mum’. I’m an only child and we’ve only got one child. I had her at 38, after a few years of trying we finally got lucky with IVF. It is hard at times (she’s just turned 2) but it’s the best thing we’ve ever done! Yes, our cream fabric sofa was probably not the best choice before kids (it’s copped a real beating) and I barely have time to pluck my eyebrows, but the cuddles and her little face when she looks at me is absolutely priceless. Also, I can’t wait to redecorate and get a new sofa!! Ali and yourself will make great parents once the time is right for you!

I am an only child and for me is the best thing ever! My parents are my bestie for liiiife. I am not the one who has to say if I'm spoiled or not but I don't think so! They just took care of me on the best way they could, we traveled, we shared tones of memories together and that's the best thing ever. Also, I know people who have siblings and their relationship is awful so... There are good and bad things on both being an only child and having siblings, as you said, it depends on how the parents raise their children. I also want to have just one baby, that would be the dream. You guys, this video is everything!!! Loved it so much.

TherealIsabelBF I am so thankful you posted this. I am currently 8 months pregnant and I have hyperemesis gravidarum which makes pregnancy terrible, I have had to be hospitalized multiple times, off work, on a feeding tube, the lift goes on. I struggle every single day just to make it through. I torture myself because I can’t imagine ever going through this again yet I am really worried my daughter would resent me not giving her siblings. This makes me feel so much better so thank you so much for posting.

kaitlynnnrose I hope you get to spend this last month of your pregnancy with health and happiness, you are strong and you are giving life to another human being, that itself is wonderful. My experience being an only child has been the best I could ever imagine. My parents raised me with such a strong relationship between the three of us, they are my best friends and the ones I can ALWAYS count on. Please don’t worry about not being able to give your daughter a sibling, you are going to do your best in every situation, and it all depends on the way the child is raised, education is key. You can be best friends, travel together, go shopping together, to the cinema, concerts... Whatever! She will cherish all those moments and won’t think about not having another person to share them with cause she will have you. As I said in my comment before, both being an only child and having siblings have their good and their bad sides, and you as a mother get to choose the life you want to life and the way you want to raise your baby. Good luck on delivery and lots of health+love for you both 💕

I have only 1 child due to health issues. He is 21 now and has never missed having a sibling. We always made his friends welcome and he is fortunate to have a wonderful network of friends. He is not spoiled either, he is just well loved.

I went from not wanting kids at all, to wanting and then having one, and now pregnant with my second 18 months later... If you’d told me that even 3/4 years ago I’d never have believed you! People are allowed to change their mind as often as they like. If you have no kids, or have one and no more, or decide you want and have 5 after all, it’s YOUR life and YOUR choice. You do you ❤️

My brother is in The Holiday haha! He's the handsome gentleman who Kate Winslet is very excited to *almost* have sitting next to her on the airplane. I love that movie as well and it's always fun to see my brother on screen!
