I have been binge watching your videos for about a week now. On your advice, I have splurged on the Loewe pouchette and the Isabel marant bicolor belt (anxiously awaiting shipping updates). I haven't worn a belt in two decades so this was a bit of a wing and a prayer. I also purchased an updated pair of straight leg jeans (Joe's Jeans are my go to brand) and some updated New Balance trainers. This is after two years of mostly investing in yoga wear and cashmere....Due to pandemic, I went from working in an office to WFH with no plan to go back. At first I LOVED not having to get dressed up or worry about spilling my coffee on white trousers or shirts. I donated most of my work wardrobe and conceded premier closet space to 'leisure wear'. But deep winter combined with some summer european travel plans have sparked an itch for new clothes. Enough about me, now I'll share that I love your modern take on classics. These pieces are timeless but the pairings and proportions do fee; fresh and new. I'm sure I am not the only fan who is closer to your mom's age than to yours and you may wonder why. In part I think it's evidence that you are working with timeless ideas of 'smart' dressing. It could also be that a trouser and blazer look is so very 1980s (sometimes I think how well you'd do wearing Meg Ryan's iconic looks from When harry Met Sally) but as soon as I feel nostalgic I realize that the 'rules' are all different now. Back in the day we were told to balance a large top with a legging and tight riding boot, but today's footwear and 'slouch' vibe makes it all seem interesting again. Anyway, I very much appreciate your work here - all the links and thoughtfulness about the how and why. Thanks also for the spring and summer attention - always a bit harder and so many influencers go the baby doll or sexpot look (good for them!)

Thank you so much for the white shirt OR blue and white striped shirt advice!!! All wardrobe staples videos I have seen so far just go with the "white shirt looks good on everyone" theme and it's never been true for me. I'm a natural redhead and very pale, the red has faded to yellow blonde as I've aged and my skin has never been a nice porcelain pale but more like pinkish areas here and there and blue undereyes from when I was a kid. Therefore the "white shirt for everyone" advice always made me a bit grumpy since that's NOT true! :P You're the first one who says that if white is not your thing, go for blue and white stripes! Weirdly, I never thought about it and all blue is ok on me but it lacks the classical staple feel. So now I'm off to look for striped shirts at the thrift store :).

The Laundress makes a nice bleach alternative that I've used for this purpose, but it does require a good soak for a few days. Generally though I too have found that this is not a splurge worthy item. I have purchased gorgeous versions by James Perse, Vince and Theory shirts by shopping discount sites (Gilt frequently has them). But only my Gap Favorites have truly lasted years and years.

Could you suggest some specific colour combinations for different combinations of contrast level, colour level warmth and tone. The classic basics suit people who suit high contrast, neutral, cool toned outfits. I suit lower contrast, higher colour, warmer, medium toned outfits.

Loved the video… Have some suggestions for your future videos. While this is a great video and I get the ‘concept’ it’s not that useful for me. Other than the leather pants and trench coat I own all of these pieces. However I don’t have the ‘supporting’ pieces that she mixes in and out. Granted I can take some of my existing pieces and wear them together but I can only style a white shirt so many ways.
