I've been a veggie for nearly 7 years now, as well as staying away from most dairy products (though not completely vegan) and it's great to see a positive and non preachy video just exploring different options! I'm so sick of vegetarians and vegans getting a bad rep when most of them just wanna live life and eat the way they want, simple. So I know it doesn't really matter, but respect to you for that! x

Just because a vegetable goes "out of date" doesnt mean its not usable anymore. They just need to have these dates on them but as long as its not moldy you can definitely use them at a later date. The only items where you should really take it seriously is basically meat, fish and eggs bc of salmonella But for sure some nice recipes to give me some inspiration :)
@carysellen36563 жыл бұрын
Honestly ! Veg tends to have best before and not use by. My rule is that as long as it’s not mouldy I will eat it! I had to teach first year flat mates that best before is different than use by. One housemate threw out a bag of carrots because they were one day out of its best before. And I had to teach them that best before just means it won’t be as nice after but still is fine to eat!

I was vegan for 3 years then got really severe acne and such bad brain fog & exhaustion - it’s all down to omega 3!! It’s easy to look at vegan omega 3 capsules and take one every day or two but you have to stay on top of it (trust me it’s not fun otherwise). I now take 5 of the 3-5 a day type for vegans and it’s helped massively! Hope you see this and take it on board

Morrisons in town (Leeds) has some of the best vegan options that are easy to find etc. The vegan chicken burgers in Aldi are insane and in the market there's a refill store that has nutritional yeast for cheaper per 100g. Nutritional Yeast is a staple. Getting your veggies from the outdoor market is the best place if you're shopping with others just make sure you take your own bags.

I have started trying to eat veggie most of the time and honestly it is nowhere near as hard as people think it might be! Some good alternatives I have found are the Richmond vegan sausages, the meatless farm mince, and Quorn pieces (although these are veggie and not vegan)! Another replacement I find works well in a stir fry is cashew nuts which are full of protein!

While I am not a vegetarian or even vegan, it is good to be more mindful of what you are consuming on a regular basis. We switched most of our dairy to plant based products (cheese is the exception as vegan cheese costs a lot and doesn't taste that great), I eat far less meat than I did over a year ago, I don't eat fish, and I am mindful of products that may contain palm oil (peanut butter especially). So even if you can't go 100% plant based, there are tiny steps you can to help with the environment if you have concerns about your eating habits.

Sorry just saw this comment and had to share my experience with switching: Linda McCartney, Richmond meat-free, Qourn, Vivera are great brands for meat substitutes and Violife extra mature is good for cheese. You will then find it easier to transition to more wholefoods recipes (i.e. beans/lentils/chickpeas/seitan/tofu) which are better for you than mock meats but they do take a little time to learn how to cook (especially tofu: I recommend pressing the tofu, rubbing in cornflour and seasoning and then oven baking or frying otherwise it can taste like a sponge (not good)). Hope that helps x

Don't worry about protein. As long as you eat enough, you will get enough. There's protein in every single food basically in varying amounts. This whole need for so much protein is mainly perpetuated by the meat and dairy industries who claim that the only way to get protein is through meat, dairy, eggs etc. but that is not true.
