This was a nice informational video. Great job, you seem like a good driver. I personally am a taxi driver-- believe it or not it can be a lucrative business depending on which town you're driving in and which company you work for. I want to leave a few simple tips for taxi drivers here who may have come looking for more general driver tips, because it's very different from driving Uber/Lyft. This is literally the process which helps me to make about $70/hr after expenses. This is assuming that you're working for a company with good dispatch, and some of these may not be applicable to you depending on your companies policies, btw: 1. Don't waste time driving, unless you're far away from a hotspot. The more you drive, the more you spend in gas. If you drop of near a hotspot, park. If you drop off far away from a hotspot-- close some of that distance, you want to be within a 7 minute ride from said hotspot-- then park. You don't want to drive too much cause you never know if you'll get a pickup back the way you came, but you also don't want to be too far away. 2. Contact your customers! If your company doesn't send you the customers #, they need to start doing so. A quick text and/or phone call to give your customers your ETA can make all the difference-- it makes them happy & comfortable they'll be picked up, and it greatly reduces the chances you'll get stood up/no showed. Make sure you also contact your customers the moment you've arrived so that you're not wasting your time if they're simply waiting for your notice. 3. Don't rely on hotels/casinos/airports, and ALWAYS give out your name/number! Many taxi drivers will simply line up outside of a hotel or casino and wait for riders to come to them. This is the difference between making minimum wage and making a killing! Your best friend is dispatch and personal customers. ALWAYS give your number to your customers and ask them to call you back when they're ready, even on the shorter trips. This can often DOUBLE the amount of fares you get in a single day. It may not seem like a big deal but every trip adds up! 4. Be polite, respectful, and helpful. Be lighthearted. Customers will appreciate you/feel more comfortable with you, and it will make your experience far more pleasant. Also remember that drunk customers, while annoying, are just trying to have a good time and they might need you to assist them with things like finding their destination, for instance. 5. Don't be greedy. Wait a few seconds before firing up the meter-- customers ALWAYS notice this. Also, don't be afraid to round down to the nearest dollar-- don't be overly concerned with that extra 50 cents as there's a good chance they're going to tip you anyway. And most importantly: offer discounts on longer fares! This will get customers to call you back almost exclusively- meaning more longer trips and better tips as well. Recurring customers tip better than one time customers. And finally: take the shortest routes. Taxi meters run by distance when moving, but time while stopped. Take the shortest, most efficient route, otherwise you'll unknowingly overcharge your customers. Try to avoid highways unless you are dodging traffic jams-- they are generally the fastest, but not always the shortest routes. 6. Match prices. If a customer took an Uber/Lyft and paid way less for the ride, you risk losing that customer indefinitely. Losing a few dollars is far better than losing a potential recurring customer. I have regular customers that call me several times a week, which makes me hundreds of dollars a week- and many of them were gained by working out fairer prices or flat rates. 7. Never accept out of town trips, or trips over $40 from shady strangers without getting the money up front. Similarly, if a customer seems shady, there's a good chance they are. Don't risk your neck or your money for these people-- it's better to awkwardly ask for the pay up front than it is to get robbed/ripped off. Sometimes it's okay to void this rule if you're taking them to populated/high security areas (such as casinos or airports), however. Use your judgment. And that's about it. If you have questions, or concerns about the rules, please feel free to ask. I'm an experienced driver that's dealt with 100s of different situations and scenarios.
Ryan Pants I call bs- don’t care if u use a sports car and break every law - you are NOT making $700 for 10 hours AFTER expenses driving a taxi or even a limo with rich drunk people even after giving them all blow jobs

Each tank is an investment. My 08 Scion XB gets 18 city and 23 highway and I still profit and profit well ($80-100 on a tank). After putting $23 into it for a full tank - that's roughly $60-80 profit. I did do both apps but Lyft pays more.
@djrickyb6 жыл бұрын
I agree. I did Uber back in 2014 into 2015. It was getting very popular at the time, and so many people started driving that I started to earn less and less money as it seemed to become saturated with drivers. Did the math, and it wasn't worth it to continue. Now I am going to try Lyft as I don't have a job at the moment. So hopefully Lyft is worth doing. I have to get my car state inspected which I I amdoing this week, then hopefully be on the road by next weekend.
@Jose-S9145 жыл бұрын
You must not forget the 1x1 rule. For every dollar you spend on gas, example $25.00 on gas then you must also save $25.00 a day for wear and tear of the car. Drivers who don’t go by this 1x1 method will be stuck not having any money to fix their cars once problems do happen.

For kicks, you can test this yourself. Go to an intersection where there are lots of uber cars (according to the app), and try to spot them IRL. You'll see phantom uber cars rolling around (on the app), while the actual roadways around you are bare.

Lots of great information here! One error for the tax part, though. As an accountant, I can tell you that you cannot deduct food you eat on the job. You CAN deduct snacks for passengers, but as Lyft/Uber does not require you to take trips during lunch hours, it's considered voluntary and not a business expense. And even when it is considered a deductible expense (such as entertaining clients), you're only allowed to deduct 50% of it.

Lyfts deductible in Arizona is $2500.00! And they will try to get your insurance to pay for it first. If you don't have rideshare coverage your inurance provider will likely drop you. Look out for yourself. Lyft does not care about you! I was a full time driver with a rating of 4.96 and when I could not afford the deductible they told me tough luck. I drove for an entire week after having my exhaust damaged by something on the highway while transporting a passenger and without warning I was deactivated. Because I reported the damage, which doesn't affect the safe operation of the vehicle, I was deactivated. Even though all I did was report it within 24 hours of the incident like they require. When I signed up I was told that if something happens Lyft would take care of it. This is the end result of Lyft taking care of things.

Child Of God noooooo. If you have app on and are in Driver Mode, those miles are tax deductible. Mikes to get pax, riding around waiting for ‘ping’, all tax deductible. You are working when the app is on. Even Social Security who HATES tax deductions will tell you that. That’s why many drivers start the day with the app on while sitting in their living room and keep it on, on your way home. You may get pinged and get another, or a few more runs.

Great tips for beginners. I would also add that you should know when is the best time to drive for your market. Some things are market specific but generally busy times are the morning work rush, the evening work rush and between 10.00 pm and 2.00 am on Friday and the weekends.

If you have a concealed carry permit, I would carry a weapon. Saving your own life is more important than Uber firing you. I go by the saying. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
@munchkym6 жыл бұрын
Paul Bottoms God I hate this topic, people are so intense about it. People who don’t carry never seem to try to get others not to carry but for some reason people who do are always intense about “you should carry.”
@brentcullipher60616 жыл бұрын
@@munchkym I've been robbed before at gun point. It is pretty intense. They didnt shoot me but could have obviously. They just punched me in the face a dozen times and then hit me on the top of the head with something hard (not the gun). Many people who carry have been victims and that's why they're intense about encouraging others to carry protection.
@iandms11606 жыл бұрын
as long as you have the permit and you don't let the passenger know it is probably something that you hopefully don't need but is there if you do need it. In which case being fired is not a concern in that moment.

Uber where almost 33 percent of fare goes to Uber company , 10 percent is GST , on rest of 57% you have to pay tax on it , which leaves a driver with 40 dollars from a 100 dollars taking ... in that 40 dollars he has to maintain his car too ... I don’t know how Uber drivers can survive in long term on this much work and such a crap income.
