The very best for you! I got Lyme infection during a longer US trip in 1984. After 20+ years of symptoms I think I am free of symptoms now for several years.
@pachuco167410 ай бұрын
Hi, that's amazing, can I ask how are you now? And may I please ask what you took to put your chronic lyme into remission and how long treatment was for you?
@peterebel789910 ай бұрын
@@pachuco1674 I did no treatment beside living a normal life. Today still no symptoms. It is wise to instantly treat Lyme infection! But I was as a student in the USA without any insurance, so I did not visit any doctor - bad choice! Thank you for asking! Are you a doctor or scientist studying Lyme?

Sending you all our best wishes and so sorry you have had to endure this, but brilliant you caught it in time. We spend a lot of time on Uist and they have a massive problem there, so much so that we check ourselves so carefully after each outing. Last year though having been to Uist, we came back and did some walking in Glencoe, and I was less vigilant and noticed a large tick on me that had been there some time, luckily no Lyme afterwards and no rash but still it was a wake up call.Enjoy your first trip back on the hills and thank you for your wonderful videos.

I’m looking forward to Wednesday’s video. Great to hear you are on the mend. A word of advice - take it easy to start with, better to under-estimate your fitness level than over-estimate. Quality over quantity - make it a good one. My cameras have been gathering dust for 4 weeks now because I didn’t follow my own advice!

That's great news Murray, I've picked up a few ticks in recent years and have been lucky so far. Have stopped wearing proper hiking boots and now use Hunter Boots, not the best for walking in but the ticks cant crawl up them.

Well done Murray for putting up these Two Videos on this important aspect of Outdoor life. As I mentioned in a comment on the previous video I had perhaps a brush with Lymes myself this year during my convalescence from Covid. During a short walk up Dunrod Hill above Greenock I got a Cleg bite and became ill with a high fever within 18 hours. A day later than this scratching my thigh I found the tiniest little tick which was so small I initially thought I’d just picked a wee scab off a scratch. Did I have Lymes or an infection from the cleg bite I didn’t know but I ended up on two different antibiotics .Once I researched things I discovered that I was unlikely to have had Lymes as it was just too soon afterwards that I became unwell. My GP prescribed my antibiotic to prevent rather than treat Lymes and unlike yourself I got the second line antibiotic amoxicillin as I’d recently had doxycycline for another infection. I have a friend who got permanent neurological damage from untreated Lymes so I have a bit of a thing about this. Glad you’re doing well and loving my armchair mountaineering courtesy of your good self .

Good news Murray, Glad you are on the mend! I often see folk out walking through ferns and stuff wearing shorts and i can't help but wonder if they are aware of Lyme disease because it seems so risky! I wouldn't wear shorts anyway due to the milk bottle twigs attached to my lower half i like to call legs 😂😂 Hope the antibiotics do the trick and look forward to your return to the mountains! 😉 Kris.

I have the same affliction with my legs ! Maybe if I had worn shorts it may have put he ticks off visiting me!! ;)

Always something that terrifies me when out in the Scottish Highlands, Wester Ross and Sutherland in particular where I've picked up a few of them. Picked up one in May near Tongue and removed it with a dab of shower gel to suffocate it and it did come out itself. I now gather that was the wrong method as it should only be removed with a tick card in case it vomits back into your blood stream with that previous method. Anyway, pleased your feeling better, a great inspiration to your fans and others affected. Keep up the great work Murray.
@ScotlandsMountains5 жыл бұрын
indeed - a tick remover is a must... the old methods i.e. burning off or smothering arent so good as they apparently cause the tick to regurgitate their contents in to you :( I have about 10 removers now in various locations!! maybe overkill but theres nothing worse than finding a tick and not having a remover tool to get it out!!lol thanks for watching ATB Murray

I actually bought a lint roller for our visit to Scotland a few weeks ago and to my dismay after walking through a fern edged track to a beach on my return I used the roller on my socks and leggings and I’d picked up 5 of the buggers !!!! And they were diminutive....we could only just make out their legs but apparently they are the worst to be bitten by....so I’m relieved I used the roller, none of us would have seen them they were that small 😳

Thank you for this video it has helped me so much, i am at the moment in the same boat as you were, i got back from a holiday in the Highlands in August went on several walks whilst i was there, when i got back home i woke up with what looked like a unusual bruise on the side of my leg , i took a picture because it was so odd looking,( i thought i had knocked my leg on something) the bruise started to fade slowly and then i had a round red large rash that didn't itch but ached, and the fatigue omg i was crashing by 1pm, the doctor has put me on exactly the same antibiotics and dosage as you, she said i will need to take them for 3 months! ( i have lupus so i think she isn't taking any chances) she has sent my pictures to Dermatology at my local hospital so i am in the process of waiting to see what they will say. I am glad you feel better.

Nice one and well done best awareness video I've watched. Having just gone through something similar, fortunately no rash and bloods clear, can empathize with you. I was amazed at how many of your commenters had suffered and or suffering the illness/disease. I'm from Essex and apparently we've the highest count for ticks, false widows and scorpions in the county🥺 nice!! But the reports for Lyme's and or Sting's seems very low. Anyways, ATB Dave 😊👍 aka wackyswanderings big thumbs up from me 👍

Good to hear you are on the mend Murray. My partner Mark ended up with Lymes a week or 2 after yourself. Can I ask if you have felt any further symptoms or had any issues recently? Thanks for sharing. Look forward to your next one. ATB Linda
@ScotlandsMountains5 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda - thankfully I seem to be back to nearing 100% now. It did take about a month or so after finishing the treatment mind you (the vlogs are always a few weeks behind due to work commitments and family, I cant get them done the same eek as the walks usually!). I must admit I am keeping a super keen eye on my health and the problem I have now is that anything that makes me feel unwell, I'll be thinking itsLymes returning!! Hope your partner is doing well and making a recovery ATB Murray

Scotland's Mountains that’s good to hear you are feeling almost 100% . Yes I imagine that’s something that will always be at the forefront of folks minds that have been infected with Lymes and a bit of a constant worry when you’re ill. A few more weeks and hopefully Mark will be 100% also. Happy hiking Murray thanks very much for the response 👍🏼😊
