A full seafront tour of Lyme Regis Dorset from Lyme Regis beach to The Cobb and Harbour area, filmed in 4K and with a happy uplifting soundtrack!
Come with us on this tour of the stunning Lyme Regis Harbour and beach!
Lyme Regis, Dorset, England. One of the most stunning and picturesque seaside holiday and tourist destinations in the UK. Blessed with an incredible coast, a lovely clean beach, a fabulous traditional seaside seafront and the famous Lyme Regis Cobb Harbour area with lovely little boats and yachts moored there, with others sailing out on the sea

We begin this virtual walk through Lyme Regis at the clock in Cobb Gate carpark and walk along Marine Parade, down past Cobb Gate Beach House and down towards the Jubilee Pavilion.
Along the way we see lots of little ice cream shops, cafes and restaurants, and of course pass a few hotels, guesthouses and B&B's for anyone wanting to stay in Lyme Regis for a break or a holiday.
Further down we reach Lyme Regis Amusement Arcade and the fantastic SWIM restaurant before taking a detour along the back streets of Marine Parade until we reach the Lyme Regis harbour area where we head down to the Cobb and along the harbour walls there to go out to sea and take a look at the yachts, boats and surfers surfing on their surfboards!
Lyme Regis is a town in west Dorset, England, 25 miles west of Dorchester and east of Exeter. Sometimes dubbed the "Pearl of Dorset", it lies by the English Channel at the Dorset-Devon border. It has noted fossils in cliffs and beaches on the Heritage or Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site.
Lyme Regis is a really lovely place to visit in Dorset. The town centre has some lovely shops and museums and the coastline, beaches and harbour in Lyme Regis are lovely to visit all year round.
Lyme Regis is a hotspot for fossil hunting!
This 95-mile-long stretch of coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of it's geological and historical importance. Among other things, that means the coast is rich with fossils.
The harbour wall, known as The Cobb, appears in Jane Austen's novel Persuasion, the John Fowles novel The French Lieutenant's Woman and the 1981 film of that name, partly shot in the town.
Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium
Open since the late 1950s, Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium occupies an early 18th-century stone building on the Cobb harbour wall. The aquarium showcases some of the abundant local sea life and offers insight into Lyme's rich maritime history.

Hi! Just out of interest, could you tell me what time you were walking and filming this? As I go to Lyme fairly often and it’s never this quiet (it’s usually pretty packed) so was thinking it must be fairly early in the morning ….I go in the afternoon.

Last time we went there, there were people with two, three and even four dogs per couple , I’m no dog hater but it’s getting ridiculous, especially those on long leads, spoiling an otherwise nice walk along the front.

Nicely done, I’ve been visiting Lyme since I was 10 and I’m 62 now,! It hasn’t changed that much. It has no rail access ( it used to,) which I think has helped keep crowds down, along with only a few hotels. The high street is nice too with some great pubs and restaurants dotted throughout and on side streets. A number of artists call it home and local work and studios can be found throughout the town along with multiple used book shops. There are beautiful gardens that back away the slopes behind the front with marvelous views to be had of the seafront. It’s truly the pearl of Dorset which I think is the prettiest county in my favorite part of the UK,: the southwest. Great job.

I agree, it was the most loveliest walk you have brought us on! I too, love to walk along the sea walls. Makes me miss the blazing sun of the summer watching the people enjoying the sun, the beautiful blue sky and glistening sea. Loved the white sails of the boats at the end just drifting leisurely away the summer day. Thanks for bringing us back to a day in the summer with this lovely walk and music! Lovely video of an area we have visited several times over the past 10 years staying in our touring caravan at the CCC site in Charmouth. This video is dated 30th of October but the weather seems so nice for that time of year. I know video editing can take quite a while so why not mention the filming date in your videos so that we know that it was the weather at THAT time of filming. This video tempts me to go there in November but I can't know whether to expect similar weather as the filming date is unknown and we live more than 200 miles away.

Totally have to agree on the soundtrack from another comment... Love the place and have stayed for weeks and visited many times. You picked a good day with the look of a mini sailing "regatta" going on. You didn't do the town itself which is great but needs a "government health warning" only because of the steep main road, and when I say Steep, I mean Steep. Best car park is by the harbour. Explore by car first if new to Lyme as you may find yourself just driving through and that would be a great shame to miss it. There's a great trail guide somewhere through the town. Very quiet prior to Easter as a lot of places still shut since Xmas, be warned on that one. Love it, and the buildings you walked past just stunning and every one of them raises a conversational point. Just go!.....

Great video. I'm from Lyme (well a tiny place just north of Uplyme) and get back when I can. My stepmother runs Mollies, and you can see her as she just gets out of your way as you go past the shop :) Just one thing... The river is of course the Lim (or sometimes Lym) and the bridge (4th oldest in Dorset) is called Buddles bridge as the stretch of the Lim under it (behind the Rockpoint Inn) is called the Buddles.

Some of the filming of The French Lieutenant's Woman was done just outside Lyme on the old smugglers road. The crew and vans were parked next to where my parents lived. They were only expecting to be there for a short while so there were no portable toilet facilities. I live close to Lyme Regis (Taunton) and I have visited the place many times each year. I also use to work in Lyme Regis for a while. It really is a special place.

Lovely video. My wife and I were at Lyme Regis in mid September this year on a similar weather day to yours, whilst staying in Sidmouth along the coast.

I love your videos and what makes them stand out is hearing the sounds of nature and people’s laughter and conversation as you pass them. The music even though good is not as effective I am afraid and just does not fit

I don't recommend swimming. The shingle has shelves in the sea and one can easily go under.

I’ve been going to Lyme once or,sometimes, twice a year since 1967. You have captured the essence of Lyme better than most other video’s I’ve seen. I echo your sentiments! There are some lovely walks going down Coombe Street, to Jordan, with the river running beside. Very suitable music too. Thanks

What a wonderful and up-beat tour of this beautiful coastal area! You have convinced me that I definitely need to visit here (not that I need much convincing) when I come to the UK for the first time in my life to visit the fabulous Cricket St Thomas estate. I am a huge and life-long fan of To The Manor Born, and I am absolutely delighted that the lovely Lyme Regis is so close by. Thank you for sharing this, it is very much appreciated. Just one thing though, I wasn't able to 'like' not sure what happened there, but rest assured I would have if I could have! Cheers and best wishes from Australia.
