In this episode of my series “ Walks in Dorset” I take a walk around the historic town of Lyme Regis at the far Western edge of Dorset on the Jurassic Coast before exploring the surrounding countryside. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I start my 5.5 mile circular walk with an exploration of Lyme Regis itself. After leaving my car at the Holmbush car park (not far from the sea), I head down Pound Street & in to Broad Street to check out a number of historical buildings (eg The Three Cups Hotel & The Town Hall) before heading back along the Marine Parade to the harbour.
The Cobb (a long harbour wall) is my next destination, followed by a wander long Monmouth Beach, before heading back to the Eastern end of the town to visit the church of St Michael the Archangel. I then start to head North out of town, following the route of the River Lim, passing by a number of pretty houses & cottages.
I then follow the “River Lim Path” to the village of Uplyme, crossing the Dorset / Devon border in doing so. At Uplylme, I visited the church of St Peter & St Paul, before heading South back towards the sea.
My route took me under the amazing Cannington Viaduct - that carried the (now disused) Axminster to Lyme Regis railway line - and up over Horseman's Hill before dropping down to join the South West Coast Path.
My final section took me along Ware Cliffs and back to the Cobb at Lyme Regis - where Logan & I got to enjoy some fish and chips!
