Rehearsal rehearsal rehearsal, touring touring touring and recording straight to the tour bus and on the road. Probably the hardest working band ever. From the times at the hell house all the way to the plane crash. They were working. There is a great documentary about them I watched. They memorized every solo and Ronnie never wrote down any lyrics because if it wasn’t worth remembering then it wasn’t worth playing. I loved that band.

Yep, and they had worked so hard for so long, that they probably could have taken a break after their latest tour! They all, except maybe Steve Gaines (since he had just joined the band) would have had a decent nest egg saved up by then. They could have gone fishing for a year or two before they had to go back to work! Just another example of how "lifes not fair!" Dudes worked their asses off, ..then died (or got seriously busted up) just before they could really enjoy the fruits of their labor!

Everyone here in the Jacksonville area has a “claim to fame” story about their connection to Lynyrd Skynyrd. I’ve got several, the best of which is my father was Billy Powell’s financial advisor in the early 2000s (just before my dad retired). My pops didn’t know Skynyrd from Elvis, yet Billy invited him over to his home on the west side here and played piano for my dad, saw all his platinum records and got me some autographed pics!😂 Prior to his visit, I remember educating my father as to who they were, that they were a major act-not some little bar band!

Me too. I was stationed in Mayport in the late 80's then lived on in OP and Greencove after I got out. I met Artimus several times. At the Spin Drifter and at Shades one time. Met Judy Grodin at a Christmas party in GCS thrown by 38 specials road manager. Lol.

Saw them on July 4, 1976 at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Great concert. It was The Outlaws. Blue Oyster Cult, Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top. Poor ZZ, nobody follows Skynyrd. Saw them 2 more times after the crash, but of course, it wasn't the same. Skynyrd live was an experience.

It's about time someone reacted to this incredible song !!! This was written by Steve Gaines who had joined the band about 1& 1/2 years before the band died in the crash . It is much different than Ronnie Van Zant's style of writing . It's great to hear Ronnie sing someone else's song that he truley respected . This would be a song he absolutely loved . He would never have sold out . Ever . Thanks !!!

Steve Gaines wrote the music long before joining the Skynyrd band ...RVZ (singer) changed/added lyrics and Gary Rossington added his middle guitar solo along with Powell adding the keys hence touched by the legend LYNYRD SKYNYRD!

With the addition of Steve Gaines this last album was a slight change in their style but a huge change in their sound. These guys were getting ready to head for much bigger and better things. Broke my heart when the plane went down. At my local drinking establishment there was a huge wake held. I think we crawled out around 4 a.m.

One of rock's greatest tragedies that the core of the band was stripped away by the plane crash. Ronnie and Steve were the glue at that time. Having said that I've remained a fan for 5 decades and saw them before and after............they never disappointed. This is also my favourite album of theirs................and how spooky that the flames on the cover flickered menacingly on their heads!

The singer, RVS, was a perfectionist, and he rehearsed over and over and over BEFORE they were even playing out in clubs. Ever song they did in rehearsal was followed by him saying, "One more time". I believe it may have driven some players away in the early days. Those who stuck around found out what greatness means.

In my younger years I would sometimes visit a honky tonk bar called “The Hillbilly Palace” in Hazard Ky. They had a good size dance floor and anytime this song or “The Breeze” played when they had a live band, it was so fun to just get out there with your woman of choice and just freaking let go! I’m not even a good dancer but dipping and spinning your woman was so, so, so much fun!

REALLY digging it that your reactions are digging Lynyrd Skynyrd. One thing on this "I know a little" song on the Street Survivors album is that😢 The album with that cover with our American band on fire, was already coming out in record stores right before the😢 damn probably Boeing plane went down. 😢😢😢 the wives🌹and girlfriends🌹of our American band stood behind Judy Wayne Van Zant to replace the album cover with the one that most of us still cherish for life. A little late, you mentioned them being tight. They had a little place south of Jacksonville, FL in the country called "The Hell House" where they practiced hours on end with no A/C. Hot & humid conditions and wouldn't accept anything less than perfection. Amazing what they accomplished in their short lives. Left us in mid-20's

Skynyrd is awesome. I had just gotten the street survivors album with the fire cover on my 17th BD which was October 20, 1977…the same day of the plane crash. After that the album cover was changed to an all black background because of rumors of ppl that died being burned, which was untrue. They did not originally have a piano player and according to a documentary I saw the were recording at Muscle Shoals when they needed a piano player and Billy Powell, who was a one of their roadies, said he could play the piano, and man could he!

I was so lucky to have seen Skynyrd live on January 1, 1975 in Macon, GA. They put on a great show... they could boogie, they could rock and they could get real serious like in "That Smell." One of my all-time favorites was, and still is, "The Ballad of Curtis Loew," a song Ronnie van Zant wrote about an old Black man who was "the finest picker to ever play the blues..." though his "Mama used to whoop me but I'd go see him again..."
