I grew up in Jacksonville, Fl. and remember when these guys were up and coming. So glad to see a new generation who enjoy this music.

Agreed but I'd recommend listening to the One More From the Road or Live at Knebworth versions. Takes it to a whole other level

The congas s were in there the whole time but they were only really prevalent in the choruses. And then of course at the end it's that classic 70s Fade Out that frustrates so many young people. But it's often a chance to let like one or the other instrument just totally go off. So but if you go back and listen to it you'll hear that it's there all along especially in the courses. In fact I think it's only available in the courses and on the outro

I’ve been to The Jug, and have my picture in front of it. It was actually called Westside Tavern at the time of this incident happened. There was a liquor store called The Little Brown Jug, and that sounded better. Yes, it was Bob Burns on congos.

I have had a uzi pointed at me. Years ago we had stopped at a tourist trap along I95 to get something to eat and some sleep. We ended up at the end of the night, running back into the restaurant. And being trapped in with the staff until law enforcement got there. We had accidentally stumbled on a very large transfer of product.

In a way more relevant to the Lynyrd Skynyrd paradigm is I've had a 38 special pointed at me a couple times when I was very young and also my dad kept one in his top dresser drawer when I was in grade school, so I love Lynyrd Skynyrd I would relate to this anyway but it's just kind of adds a bit of extra kick to it.

Lynyrd Skynyrd had 3 lead guitarists. It really can be heard in Free Bird. But that may explain why their music is eternal.

They didn't always have 3 leads. Their first album (which this is from) had just Gary and Allen. Ed King played bass at this point. They also had just Gary and Allen between the time Ed left in 1975 and Steve joined in 1976.

there's conga drums (tall and slender) and bongo drums (short and squat). Congo is a place in Africa. those were probably congas i believe - they are smattered a bit earlier in the song too - but faded to the background. Only after the other instruments fade at the end, they are heard easier. I have bongos with my drum kit; but i dont have any congas.

It's even better by Jamey Johnson, live bc he really is one of America's 🇺🇸 ❤ HEROES. He can silence 60 to 70,000 people about 3 seconds into the song. ❤

A pot dealer pulled a gun on me because he passed out the night before and got ripped of by some intruders to his home, since me and my friends had permission to walk right in if the music was playing at his house he suspected us, he made us swear three times it wasnt us and then sold us some weed. This was late 80s Canada by the way, He killed himself not long after that, he was on some heavy drugs. This song is perfect for such a situation.

I don't tell this story much anymore but a gun being pointed at you is some serious shit.. I think I was 53, and I'm white and from the country... I had gone to surprise my bf for her birthday to more of a city area than what I grew up with... but on my way home .. going down an old country road this man in a pickup truck pulled out in front of me doing like 10 mph... well .. I passed him on a double yellow line.. Not my first time doing it on that road but a cop was there.. so I pulled into a driveway and proceeded to turn my car around in the circular driveway so I would be facing out when I got my ticket... Oh Hell NO.. this cop.. with braces on this teeth pulled his gun on me.. screaming at me to get my hands off the wheel... blah blah.. I was shaking so hard.. I'm thinking this CHILD is going to shoot me for passing on a double yellow.. Bottom line.. not a good feeling at all to have a gun pointed at you. Scary as shit.. I know you might think this is a joke.. but I would think anyone doesn't like a gun pulled on them.. and I have my conceal and carry license.. my guns are in a safe. I've never taken them out except to target shoot with them.

" call me the breeze." Yeah you can probably hear other songs because each group had their " own style" and tweaked it as they saw fit. Also too, those songs are also inside of them written or not cause they are the originals.

I had a gun pulled pointed at me once. By a friend's crackhead dad. It made me mad. In almost any other situation, I might not have made it. I got pissed and went off. Not the best idea but I was enraged. Love this song though.
