SKYNYRD SONGS ARE SONGS THE EVERY DAY MAN CAN RELATE TO.
@jasonturner88408 ай бұрын
So they were at the "Hell House" where they went every day to practice and compose. Ed King started playing this riff and after a few minutes Ronnie walked up behind him and whispered in his ear..."Two feets they come a creepin, like a black cat do"! Just like that they were writing another monster! You are right, Ronnie never wrote the lyrics down, once he wrote the song in his head it was permanent.

Ronnie always performed barefoot. I've been listening to Skynyrd since they first came out. Always thought I'd get tired of they're music, but I'm 60+yo and still enjoy all their music. Glad you're getting to experience them.

A Saturday night special was a particular, super cheap pistol you could by just about anywhere in the 60's and 70's.
@Ryan20224 күн бұрын
I have lots of pistols and none of them are cheap, which is why they are a favorite item to get stolen nowadays so people are going to complain either way
@alanbarger77124 күн бұрын
@Ryan2022 they were almost like plastic snap guns. Revolver with metal inside.
@Ryan20224 күн бұрын
@@alanbarger7712 yeah that’s nice and it’s a great song, but there are interviews with Van Zandt who was against any hand guns not just cheap hand guns which makes no sense whatsoever. Why would someone be OK with an expensive handgun but not a cheap handgun? I know it’s hard for people to understand this, but a lot of people make a distinction between long guns and handguns. There are a lot more people who believe you should be able to own a rifle and a shotgun then a handgun they simply look at these two types of firearms differently.
@alanbarger77124 күн бұрын
@@Ryan2022 did you live in Jacksonville Florida?
@Ryan20224 күн бұрын
@@alanbarger7712 no did you? I’m sure it’s a pretty violent southern city and maybe Ronnie never saw a hand gun used for anything other than mayhem which inspired his song. I mean, have you ever heard a pro gun rock song I never have

Lynyrd Skynyrd is more political than you would think. Always loved this song. Thanks for doing this.
@shawnj19662 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't consider this political at all. It's not about gun control. It's about scumbags buying cheap pistols on the street and killing people with them.

And to set the story straight , Ronnie was not against guns. He had a pistol and carried it when he went fishing to kill snakes . Ronnie was against how easy it was to get and carry those snubnose 38 Specials that would also missfire and blow up on you.
@foxchasejrt13 жыл бұрын
True that!

To set the story straight, listen to the lyrics: "Now why don't we dump 'em people to the bottom of the sea. Before some ole fool come around here wanna shoot either you or me." Notice he says "people". Couldn't be any more clear than that. Maybe someone needs to explain this to you with crayons or finger puppets?

One of their most classic songs. This was on the radio constantly for it seems like years. And we all had the record album and you heard it all the time. Yeah the instrumentation on this or as I like to say, the arrangement, is fantastic like all of their songs. It's so hilarious to go watch a bad bar band cover something like this song or give me three steps and they don't really understand or don't take the time to learn and practice all these various counter-posing lines that go on in their arrangements. It's like a jigsaw puzzle that fits together just like it should. Instead you know they're playing basic chords and kind of a standard bass line and it's just not the same at all. It's not Lynyrd Skynyrd unless you have the complexity of the structure of it even though they make it sound simple during all the supporting Parts before totally going off on solos. But every second of it is just so well orchestrated and delivered. Love this band so much.

The writing process, or "writing" I guess. They started out poor, and never really got rich before the plane crash, but they made music in a literal shed in Florida with no AC. They never got AC in it, some days it would be 120 degrees inside, there are stories of sweat covered instruments and just absolute shredding. Outside the shed was a cow field, you know what grows in a cow field? Magic mushrooms, that they would pick and make mushroom tea with, lots of mushroom tea. Gary Rossington said they would trip all day making music(they were known for having an insane work ethic, especially for being so young, 8 to 10 hour days), and "feel" the music through each other. After they lay a base melody or riff, Ronnie would go out to the pond and go fishing while the band hashed out the music. Ronnie would think of the lyrics as he fished, and usually by the time he was done, the band would have the song mostly sorted out. He would come inside, nothing written down and just continue working with the bros. Some of the greatest song creation of all time happened in that shitty little shed
