I've said it many times before but it's worth repeating. Lynyrd Skynyrd was one of THE most innovative rock bands of all time. Adding a string section to this beautifully crafted song proves it. I never tire of this song. Priceless.

Remember the crash like yesterday. Lived in Pittsburgh and my friend Danny who lived in Atlanta called me and asked if I had heard. I slid down the wall and ended in a sitting position. Too stunned and sad and mad and devastated that such a wonderfully talented collection of young southern rock musicians had just lost their life. It will be 50 years here some time soon and wrapping my head around their lasting legacy, music and legend is timeless. God bless you LSB.

Every time time those violins come in at 4:13 my breathing stammers, my throat closes a little, and my eyes well up with tears. I remember hearing about the plane crash on the tv news, I was 13. My dad always liked when I played this at home. He came to see my band and we played this for him ... Flash forward to 2001.. we buried my dad on a Tuesday.... I sat alone, in my basement listening to a bunch of songs he loved. I picked up my guitar when this came on and played along. Tears streaming down my face. It wasn't until the song was over that I had a tearful audience hanging on the steps and listening from behind me. My ex came over with my current girl and they both hugged me and handed me tissues. Every time I hear this brings me right back to that day

Michaelwolf, you are so right my friend, I am sixty,I've in Winter Haven Fl, two hours from Ricky Medlock and four hours from the great little brother who finally decided to take the mic and keep it going, Johnny Van Zant. I have loved these guys since they came out and I started playing the drums at age five. They are the only band in rock and roll history that I can think of that has suffered more deaths than any other band, but they always bring in one of their good old southern pals, most, they grew up with, not all, but like we Italians, when one leaves, there is another local Philly boy we grew up with and in the organization he is. I have said this many times, they are not,by any means, a tribute band, Ricky was there at the beginning before they hit the public, Johnny is the closest living human being to having Ronnie up there on stage, like Johnny's daddy said in the VH1 special, behind the music, he looks like him, he sounds like him. I hope so, they are from the same parents. I don't care if Bill Wyman comes out of retirement and joins Skynyrd as the bass player, they will always be Skynyrd to me. Remember, most of these guys in Skynyrd, have now been Skynyrd for over twenty five years now. Can't wait until July 29th, Saturday night, Tampa Amphitheatre, I will be down front with my American flag bandana,my eighty year old Italian mom and my fourteen year old niece, screaming and yelling like a school girl who has just seen Justin Timberlake for the first time. Please keep the music going gentlemen, we love you guys.

They have one of the best documentaries that I’ve ever seen. They talk about how they’d go to this farm and not leave for days because they’d be writing and singing. How they got their name. Johnny does such a good job honoring his brother and the rest of the original band members that are no longer with us and he's a great vocalist in his own right as well.
