It really pisses me off that people judge One Direction's entire career based on their first single that they released when they were 17-19. They've grown so much from then but people won't know because of their prejudices towards boy bands.

It's sad that everybody thought the part with "We don't talk enough, we should open up..." is about two people in a relationship when it's a general statement about us, human beings in today's society. Goes to show we never think about how bad things could apply to us.

for me harry is clearly talking about the world in general. “we” means everyone. he’s saying that everyone is so broken, everyone is trying to be who they aren’t. and we are so close to destroy ourselves, that’s why the end is near. and we need to get break this cycle of pain and violence and everything. it’s not about a relationship, it’s so much deeper!

READ THIS FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Harry said it was written from the point of view of a mother giving birth. She's giving birth and they told her there would be complications: the baby would make it but not her. So she sings to them, tells them that the world as it is today is hard to live in: "running from the bullets" is trying to escape wars, "we don't talk enough" is the miscommunication there is in the world, "we never learn we've been here before" is History always repeating itself and us not learning from Humanity's past mistakes. "It's a sign of the times" translates into "that's the way things are, it is what it is" so when she says "just stop your crying it's a sign of the times", she's telling the baby that even though she's leaving him, they'll have to live with that fatality and try to fight for what's right in her memory. So yeah, thought I'd give you the RIGHT interpretation of this insanely poetic song, with a symbolism that's just as breath-taking.
@Endlesslyadrift7 жыл бұрын

Harry has stated many times that he wants people to take away from his music as they please. He thinks it's more important for that person to decide what that song means to them rather than having a definite meaning per-say. That is what this song means to him personally but he begs us to interpret it in our own way because that's what music should be about. How it makes you feel and what it means to you, it's better to have that than only think of a certain situation that you can't relate to.
@jeseyloves1d4546 жыл бұрын
6:24 ouch... "is he still in One Direction"

I interpret it completely different. It's not about a relationship, it's about our world. It's a sign of the times that it's getting closer to the end of the world. Stop crying because that's just the way it is. "We gotta get away" but really there's no where to go.
