I bought a filthy yellow canvas/ leather bag for 4.99 at a thrift store. Ms Shopsalot mentioned she threw hers in the washer! I figured I had nothing to lose so I put the settings at warm, threw in some Awsome and Tide and let her go! It was a miracle! I stuffed it with towels, leather treated the leather parts and Scotch Guarded the dickens out of it. It was pristine!

Thoughtful and loving work, your bag looks new (and I’m sure smelled so much nicer). I bought a couple of Coach bags at a yard sale, they looked like they had been to hell and back but showed promise as the leather wasn’t too bad off. All I have left to say is that these old Coach bags are made so well, they pretty much just bounce back when they’re cared for like this, as seen in the video. One moment of kindness and they are beautiful again!!! Well done 👍

I use saphir on all my leather products, they are the best. For people who want to know. Saphir renovator is the conditioner. Watch out on light browns in will darken due to it conditioning so well. And the black cream is saphir saphir pommadier cream polish. The cream has some very light waxes and you need to buff them out with a horse hair brush. It will leave a small shine, but also help seal the bag or shoes, or whatever you use it on for a small amount of protection.
@NB_Wildflower3 жыл бұрын
Can waxes be put on the analine leather like this? I was told that putting wax on porous leather like coach leathers would encourage dry rot, and cause the leather to become brittle and disintegrate over time.
@ZBrink112 жыл бұрын
Why does she always use Saphir Cordovan on the black Coach bags but 1925 on the other colors?
@davidmiller3128 Жыл бұрын
Saphir cream polishes have less wax than standard shoe polish, but it still contains, according to their own literature, 7 different kinds of waxes. You are putting wax on the bag's chrome tanned leather, reducing it ability to breathe and absorb conditioners. Personally, I would not do this or want it on my bags.
@davidmiller3128 Жыл бұрын
@@NB_Wildflower You are correct. You should never put a wax product on a Coach vintage bag. Once painted on, it is extremely difficult to remove. And god knows there are few enough of these fine old bags left in unmolested (and unwaxed!) condition.

@lindah.85643 жыл бұрын
@@estadejong9115 I agree! Stop soaking bags in water. I restore bags, and this is a huge no no!!! Cadillac leather cleaner and restorer will clean a bag up beautifully, then use matching dye or leather cream depending on damage, or a bit of leather paint, if needed, then a leather clear coat to bring back sheen, then mink oil or leather wax depending on the bag, metal cream cleaner for hardware, and lastly, buff the whole bag with a micro fibre cloth. Inside can be vacuumed, and cleaned carefully, with a stain remover, and rubbing alcohol for pen marks.
@kindredcreativecorner69273 жыл бұрын
@@estadejong9115 I hear and understand what you are saying but what damage can be done if the bag is all leather? My brother has a business cleaning up basements, attics, garages and frequently comes across vintage Coach, LV, Prada bags that he brings to me to restore. The last Coach looked and smelled like the bag had been under the basement floorboards for years. Great bones and I washed it submerged in a little soap, vinegar n water. I be damned -that bag dried to almost pristine condition. All the mold was gone, scuff marks gone, dirt n grime were gone. It was now flexible n pliable where before it was hard n stiff. Finished it off with conditioner n wax. I don't treat all bags that way but for this one we had nothing to lose.

You are the first person I've seen washed the leather purse with a dish detergent and soaked it in the water for 20 min... why not just use Saddle soap?... i mean You do still use water but and you'd still have to dry it for 24 - 48 hours but you are not soaking the leather in the water. You wet the brush in water and leather up the soap and clean the purse with it... and wipe away. and use clean water and brush to go back over the purse. Pat dry and fill it with towels and dry for 24 - 48 hours. You are not taking a chance to ruin the leather. I've seen Faux leather washed... i don't believe I've ever seen a real leather washed with dish detergent and soak in the water. Personally, I found that tinted polish doesn't actually cover the worn out areas. I had to purchase a leather dye to actually store those spots. But, if this methods works for you, more power to you. ^_^
