This won't get you nvme speeds. Your still limited to sata speeds. This is only useful if you have an extra sata m.2 drive and don't have an extra m.2 slot. Don't buy an new m.2 ssd to do this. It'll be cheaper to just buy a 2.5 ssd

Or you need more data space in a small form factor computer. ( There is two m.2 to one 2.5 adapter, instead of one to one) this can be useful if needed.

I think you made a mistake. This crucial ssd you used is the one with write and read speed of 550 mb/s, not 3400mb/s. I tried to look for the one with 3500 that has B+M key. It doesnt exist.

It was not mentioned. I saw another video with the same type of board. on this video - the connector says sata m.2. So keep in mind ( I do not have part number - but I assume ) that this will probably only work with the sata version of m.2 cards. there are 2 other forms of m.2 - one is nvme - probably will not work or fit. the other is for wifi. so realize that this setup is sata controler -> board -> sata m.2 card. all sata. Max speed is what 600 MB/sec. the storage card is the limit. but realize - you can find a sata ssd ( same size as adapter card ) that will plug into the sata slot/cable on computer. only drive - no adapter needed. ( to Narator - just giving more facts - no insult )

Will the exact same model perform the same if it were in a 2.5 SATA form versus an m.2 using a 2.5 SATA adapter? I am deciding on whether to buy a WD Blue 3D NAND and I have two options for it, one is a 2.5 SATA, and the other is an m.2 with a 2.5 SATA adapter. Just get the 2.5" SATA, there's no point in messing about with adapters if you can help it, you'd just be overcomplicating the matter. A 2.5" SATA and M.2 SATA should give the same speed. I have a WD Blue 3D NAND 2.5" SSD and I can't fault it.

Can you get adapters for "M "as well? I just bought one only to find my mother board only does sata. I'm late to the show as well. Just picking up computer builds at 56. I have always done audio, but nowdays the two mix to much not to learn both. I have a great suggestion for a high quality mini component 5.1 dtscomputer sound system, if you are interested. Or just a great stereo amp for computers(or home). Cheap like borcht with amazing sound( this coming from a40 year audiophile).

it probably works, but the speed will be limited to SATA interface. So your NVMe will not be faster than a normal SSD sata3. It is pointless

@@irfok727 yes... speed of SATA interface. Probably that M2 ssd of video is SATA and not NVMe... so no change. But an NVMe is using PCIe interface which is faster so this kind of ssds should connect to M2/NVMe port directly

M2 Sata is slower than m2nvme no matter how you slice it. Older compute does not have M2 M slot so no luck there. Still way way faster than the spinning hard drive. You definitely will see in boot up and using it over all. Well worth the upgrade and SATA SSD is very cheap nowadays. One can do either ready to go SATA ssd drive or using stick with adapter as shown here. Both is way faster than mechanical hard drive. Mechanical hard drive is becoming obsolete in 2024.

No the transfer rate is not much as a mechanical drive, the only thing it help on is producing less heat and better a little bit better transfer rate compared to a mechanical drive.
