One thing I find really interesting and funny about the MASK members is that they had average everyday jobs that they end up having to leave in the middle of when they get called to fight VENOM. So, like, Hondo I believe worked at a pizza parlor, and he'd have to ditch his job each time he got the call, and it didn't take me until recently to realize that, they would have to use those jobs as cover jobs that are kept up by Matt Tracker, because otherwise, with the sheer amount of time they had to ditch them to fight VENOM, they'd be fired eventually for dereliction of duties.

I had a MASK toy when I was a kid... for a single day. One christmas my grandmother bought me and my brother this toy which was an articulated lorry that transformed into a control tower or something, in the back of the truck was a racing car that transformed into a plane (I think). It was an amazing toy but it broke almost immediately after getting out the box. My granny took it away and said she would get us a new one but we never saw it again. Years later me and my brother would wistfully remember the awesome truck toy that we got to play with for a matter of minutes before it was whisked away forever. I think it was a MASK toy anyway.

In the mid '80s I worked at a photographic studio and we did a lot of product photography for an importer/distributor of MASK toys. Most of the time they could did not want the toys back after we photographed them so we ended up with boxes of the toy vehicles and little action figures. No one at the studio was interested in having the toys and I was told to get rid of all that tat, so I put them in the back of my car and took them for a friend to give to his nephews for Christmas that year. I am sure there were other '80s toys that were there as well but seeing this reminded me of the MASK toys.

I acquired the Starcom brand years ago and have been working on the reboot for a long time. The problems I have come across have been heartbreaking and infuriating. The original cartoons are owned by cookie jar, or was they may have changed hands I own the brand although am running out of time I can't get any sort of finance to move forward. The legalities are a minefield. You see I wanted the animation and toy production in house and this is unheard of somewhat. I wanted full control with a group of select partners including artists and scriptwriters Episodic 45 minute series with seasonal production Nothing like the original, more of a real life sciences of today and tomorrow solving real world problems of today and tomorrow. I can't give too much away but if anyone knows anyone who may be interested in bringing this space opera to life let me know I had even got angels and airwaves involved with music licensing and a special character based on Thomas Delonge.

Funny thing is no one was insulted by the now racist stereotypes at the time. We thought our stereotypes were really cool role models because no one told us about individuality being more important than the racial fortes and weaknesses you're born with.

Biologist here. The term "race" has long been abandoned in life sciences. There is hardly such a thing as racial fortes and weaknesses. Even different species can be extremely similar in their phenotype enabling them sometimes even to breed and bring forth fertile offsprings. So shed your belief and accept that the term race is merely a political and social construct as well as outdated and extremely vague. Have a nice one ;)

Funny thing, that. It's kind of like how some folks saw Speedy Gonzales as a bit of a negative stereotype, when IIRC he was really popular in Latin America.

Speaking of lazy writing, Chuck Lorre was one of the scriptwriters on the show. So there's that.

Yep. He also wrote the TMNT theme song.

Absolutely loved MASK toys as a kid. You had the best of GI Joe and Transformers in one toy. My favourite toy was probably Outlaw.

The only cartoon evil organisation I can think of that thought they were the good guys were Team Plasma. And even then, it was only N who thought they were the good guys because the Plasma grunts were a pack of assholes. In Pokemon Black/White, they start kicking a pokemon because they want it to do something, stuff like that.

Logan Morpheus Well Venom still had an inherently selfish motivation. Also I was more talking about evil organizations, rather than evil characters who are so crazy they think they're the good guy.

and i actually think it's a GOOD idea, or at least not STUPID, to make each character very stereotypical, so that the kids will get it! MOST cartoon are aimed at CHILDREN, not ADULTS, so there is a lot of bad/weak stuff in them, because the kids won't mind, or notice.
@mastermarkus53076 жыл бұрын
But then you're just teaching kids stereotypes instead of being arsed to write characters that are like actual humans.
@brutallyhonest1236 жыл бұрын
Master Markus when you start eliminating "stereotypes" you're really just dictating behavior. Every stereotype exists somewhere. Trying to disenfranchise them because they make you feel uncomfortably white isn't helping anyone
