A couple of southern NLF vets I know dun care either way. In fact, they like to think of the term "Vietcong" akin to the level of Americans calling their Naval personnel "squids." To be honest, the reasonable way I see how they dislike the term is because most of them (the southern NLF fighters anyways) dun even follow the textbook communist ideology, they just want to end the war and gain independence. And at the time, communism appealed to the people the most.

@@tomfuchs1215 correction actually, the "Vietcong" as you called is a separated army under the command of the National Liberation Front. As opposed the NVA(PAVN), which is the actual north vietnamese army. During the war, the line might be blurry because those two armies work in pretty much union (you can clealy see their red and blue flag and not a full red flag of the north). Long rant, but its pretty important to remember that the Vietnam War wasnt about the North Vietnamese vs South Vietnamese but about the american-backed government trying to regain and maintain their control of the south from the communist rebels.
