My grandson chooses to shoot the S&W 15/22 over a Ruger 10/22 and his Henry 22 lever action. Because it looks like his dad's Ar15. We have several 10/22's but that is his favorite. Every time we go shopping he wants to pick up more 22lr because " you can't have too much ammo grandpa" every time he says that it warms my heart and my wallet opens. He is only 8 but he has enough 22lr for him and his kids someday.

I bought my grandson a 15-22 for his first rifle and he loves it. So far I've bought 5k rounds to go with it. He's almost 7 and I love that it will be able to grow with him. I like that all the controls are the same as any other ar as well. So far it's only had 1 malfunctions with underpowered hollow points, everything else runs great in it.

That's awesome to hear bro! I took my son today to buy an Mp15. The owner of the store seen my son looking at the rifle and he was like it looks like your son wants to hold it, and it's ok let him hold it. My son is 5 years old but his eyes lit up like I've never seen. We both fell in love

I purchased my M&P 15-22 used in 2016. Mine is an early first generation model with the quad rail and unthreaded barrel. I don't know how many rounds it had through it by the previous owner, however the shop owner took it home and he and his family put about 1500 rounds through it and said it ran beautifully. Since I've owned the rifle, I've put somewhere between 4-5k rounds through it with what I would consider extremely good reliability considering the issues that can occur with .22LR such as misfires from bad primers and inconsistent (weak) loadings causing improper cycling. I've shot several brands and types of ammo from standard pressure to hyper velocity CCI Stingers and Velocitors. The gun has cycled it all with nothing more than a handful of misfires and again only a handful (maybe 5-8 total) failures to feed or failures to eject (stove pipe) within that 4-5k rounds. Nearly all of those FTF/FTE malfunctions have been due to the previously mentioned inconsistent/weak ammo and in a few cases, operator error from improperly loaded magazines. I know several other people in my area who own these rifles and shoot them A LOT that have more or less mirrored my experience.

My daughter loved that gun from day one. She was 11 when started shooting it. She now has a F-1 AR15 custom powder coated purple. But to her that 22lr is hers! It definitely made an easy transition to the AR. The muscle memory for all the controls was there.

Here in California, you can't run a regular AR-15 setup like the rest of America. So when i was 18, broke, and in the market, i chose this, the 15/22. One because it was cheap, cost effective for ammo, looks cool, and .22lr why not. Now, ever since the age bump up, I didnt have a chance to buy an AR-15 chambered in 5.56, and this is what i have to work with now, for training, plinking, and defense. .22lr is looked down upon yes, but very underestimated. Ive done my fair share of research and I'm confident, that this is a option for defense, more than it would be for offensive purposes. Easy to control, fast follow up shots, decent expansion with HPs, and with less worry of full pass through. S&W MP 15/22 is a fun gun over all, and reliable, my typical run ins are magazine related failures. Big thing to, rim fire isn't regulated here, so i can set this up however i want.

Well 5 years and over 10k rounds later its been great for me. It will start to FTF failure to feed after about 800 rounds it you don’t clean it. That was with bulk 1400 round bucket of golden bullets. Very dirty rounds. I ran a test after about 1500 rounds when I first bought it. It was Brocken in I cleaned it than ran it till the first FTF. Again dirty golden bullets it of the bucket. I have ran alot of different kinds of ammo thru it and it doesn’t really care. Aguila 4 types, American Eagle , CCI 3-4 types,Federal box’s and bulk, Golden bullet bulk and 100 ct box, Winchester wildcats, 1440-1200 FPS, bulk box types oh and some Tracer rounds. Now with that said CCI’s quiet-22s will not cycle the bolt at 710 FPS It’s sighted in at 100 yards with federalvalue pack 36 grain 1260FPS cphp. Winchester 36gr. Cphp 1280s are next in my bulk plinking. I would state my accuracy but my eyesight is not great even with my scope but I can hit a 2” spinner target at 100yds. On a gun rest. I don’t have a steady hand 🖐 I’m disabled. Hope someone finds this useful

I absolutely love my MP AR15 I bought the rifle and went to the range immediately. Fresh out of the box the rifle was dead on I totally enjoyed shooting it. Now I did have to leave it in Arizona when I left to go back to California. I just didn’t want the hassle with legally bringing it into the state. Now with this rim fire MP I can legally have and use in California. I think this sporting rifle will do great in California and will draw in the want to be AR 15 owner. There is a much bigger picture here. Thank you and thank you Smith & Wesson

@@Joeshmoshoots Golly, you sure sound like you know a lot about shooting suppressed. Tell me more! My bolt action isn’t substantially quieter, because the action of the 15-22 makes very little noise. More sources of noise at the same time does not mean more volume. The action cycling on a 15-22 is not much louder than the hammer falling, and even with subsonics, the suppressed shot is still louder than the action by a little bit. So yeah. It’s basically as quiet as my bolt action. Which you would know if you had shot either instead of assuming you know everything. EvErYbOdY kNoWs…

I have one of these and I really like it if nothing else then at the very least for the fun factor. A lot of talk about 10/22, however, when was the last time you compared a new 10/22 to a 20 or 30 year old 10/22? I recently bought a brand new Ruger 10/22 and compared it to my dad’s which ironically was made the year I was born. The older one is much much higher quality. My new one has lots of tool marks and mold defects. So, I wouldn’t put the 10/22 on that high of a pedistool!

And Was a bit apprehensive on the 556 as I don't know what the recoil was like & also the price per round if I just wanted to plink around. Also didn't want to bother with one of those 22 bolt conversion kits for a 556 AR due to accuracy outta the 556/223 barrels but was one of the old plans. But still decided to get dedicated 22 rifles.

It's interesting for what it is. However, there are other options. There are complete 22LR uppers for your AR lower. You need a magazine that fits of course. Also Ciener makes (or made) a 22LR adaptor kit that goes in place of the BCG and has its own magazine for any AR-15. There is also CMMG. I imagine each has its advantages. Depending on how the political winds blow, a pure .22LR AR clone rifle could get past centerfire semi-auto bans and restrictions. One big advantage of the conversions is that they are not firearms and can be mail ordered. The pure 22LRs are less likely to get banned but are complete firearms that you must go through a dealer to get or private sale if that is still legal.

What do you think about having a dedicated are m&p 15/22 vs an ar15 with a 22lr conversion kit vs a Ruger 10/22 with the Arch Angel kit vs the new replica co2 sig mcx full auto/ select fire bb gun for a first gun? When these 22lr ARs started showin up I was gonna get the Colt to go with it's big Brother but read review that said the Colt was very picky on ammo. Every review said same thing. Colt even said which ammo was best to use. S&W said this one WASN'T picky and guess i got a good one. Don't really shoot just to be shooting anymore and quit hunting or fishing 50yrs ago and reckon training and workin with weapons has scratched my gunpowder itch so my stockpile grows. Still ain't figured out why 22's went crazy. Seen lotta conjecture. Maybe CRS dude will have some insight into that. Glad to see the guns back. Don't know if it would help his channel or not but most folks want to see Guntubers shoot what they're reviewing but if this works maybe different is better. You pretty well covered it... IF you're looking for an AR-15 training tool it's a good way to go. Now from what I understand and have observed the M&P 15-22 is one of the most reliable .22 LR guns on the market right now. But outside of that niche need to have that potential for a shorter length of pull the Ruger 10/22 is a much better .22 LR gun as a whole and would likely be the better buy. But being S&W marketed these primarily to target people who want AR-15 trainers, it definitely meets that goal. Now, while .22 LR ammo was crazy priced and hard to find during the Obama years, 5.56/.223 was all but gone, ESPECIALLY bulk ammo. You could still find .22 LR but guys were wanting $70 for a brick of 500 or more in some cases but even at those inflated prices... It was still cheaper than 5.56 was for the most part. So, even during it's introduction to the shooting world it still had its merits.

The question is is the bolt Carrier basically A CmMG Bolt Carrier groupAnd can you put an AR 15 bolt Carrier group in it to fire 556 or 2 to 3 That would be the question And a damn good one I think

You could by a Ruger 10/22 and a new stock and make it look pretty much like a ar if that's all you wanted.

The reason the rifle so clean is that it will shoot pretty much anything as long as it's clean. Once your 500 plus rounds into it then you'll have issues

Nice review CRS Firearms and I was thinking about buying one to add to my collection and to let my 8 y/o grandson use it to get started but his mother ain't down with him handling firearms (sadly she's a demoncrat). I have a "ton" of firearms in my collection and barely have time to take my newly brought rifles and pistols to the range so with that said I'm gonna have to pass but to others I say SMASH! However you should have a Ruger 10/22 Takedown in your inventory with the several extended clips....perfect rifle if you have to dash real fast.

Right on Just use gorilla warfare on her Be the super cool grandpa that he wants to spend a lot of time around Always play action movies first person shooter games tell stories about when you were a kid and how much fun he used to have with firearms stories about your first deer kill And you will plant the seed that will grow into a tree and he will become pro firearm regardless what she says I wouldn’t recommend going for political on him but political zingers against stupid people that make him laugh always work

I'm too old to "dash" anywhere, so bugging-out is out of the question -- The Plan is to hold the fort instead. Consequently, even something big & heavy like a .50 BMG set up on my patio works just fine. -- Col. Robert Neville, US Army retired "The Omega Man" (1971)

Stick a Volquartsen ejector in it (5 mins tops) and it will run really well on pretty much anything you feed it. The Ruger 10/22 is a fine rifle, but has a crazy stupid bolt hold/release control that should have been re designed a million years ago, but is still a crap design on new rifles. Also, it doesn't hold open on the last round whereas, the 1522 does. The comfort and function of the 1522, and the light weight, make it a better all round choice for most semi auto .22 applications. I own both rifles and have shot thousands of rounds through both. I would keep the M&P 1522 if I had to choose and the Ruger was my first ever firearm! I genuinely think the Smith and Wesson is a better out of the box design. You can customise both to the ends of the earth, so not much in it from that perspective, but the 1522 is so much more comfortable to use and has great ergonomics.

I'll pass on the .22lr model. However, I been thinking about getting the Sport 2. Taking any and all advice I can get on it. I was set, but I talked to some fellas last night that got me thinking I should go with the Palmetto State Armory. Buying an AR come tax time next year and I'm going with either the M&P or PSA....make my mind up!👍🍻

@budget gun cinema Can't speak more highly about Palmetto. The only downside is slower shipping time due to busyness. Everything else is 100%! I've built a few so far from them and haven't had a single hiccup. Good luck!
